As is usually the case, you are clueless. My question was "rhetorical". Do you know what that means?

Get a life? Did they teach you that comeback in votech? Put down the doobie and try reading a book.

By the way, geniuses...
This isn't about whether or not anyone should be FORCED to use another venue, this is about being smart enough to see that as long as there is no viable alternative to Ebay, they will continue to tighten the noose around seller's necks.
I am starting to understnad why so many people flock to the image of the virgin Mary on the wall of some nuts apartment--only they don't realize it's just the reflection of the sun off a crystal sugar bowl.
I'm sure shaani would be first in line holding her rosary beads!!!
LOL!!!

jlb444 says:
Here's an idea: How about sellers posting messages in their End of Auction emails. Saying you can get better deals for my items on Amazon, Epier, Yahoo or what ever. Maybe we as sellers have to advertise these other sites where WE CAN DO IT.
jlb444 now I think that's a great idea! However you may not get too much more opportunity to incite rebellion considering eBay could be moving to a Half.com type communication mechanism where we sellers never again deal directly with our buyers, except through eBay as the ever watchful intermediary. Do it while you still can! The key is to get buyers to try out other venues. Until some of these competitors increase their buying clientele eBay has nothing to worry about.
One of the problems I've noticed in dealing with other venues is most of us don't have any significant feedback ratings on other sites. Buyers may be reluctant to deal with low feedback sellers. At least that's what one buyer told me was holding her back from bidding on my auctions at BargainandHaggle. She finally overcame her fear and did win one of my auctions. Driving your buyers directly to your auctions on other sites may solve this problem to a degree. But you have to do it relentlessly the way eBay never stops marketing itself or Half. That's where Amazon and Yahoo have dropped the ball.

I'll tell you what I observe. eBay is trying desperately to scrape small and medium sellers from eBay's shoes. And the sellers just cling on harder. Gee, how many ways can eBay say, "We don't want you" while sellers remain clueless?
I can't think of any precedent where a company tried to beat its customers away with a stick, and the customers just kept coming back for more. eBay is a drug.
I am in the same boat as everyone. I was so disgusted with eBay that I began listing items on Yahoo, even though sales were 10% of eBay. Then, just when Yahoo started to pick up, they introduced (what can only be described as) unrealistic fees. Nice going, Yahoo.
In my opinion, there is only one solution to the problem of eBay. That is a non-profit auction sellers co-operative. It must be run by sellers, not to make money, but for the sole purpose of providing an alternative to eBay. And those maintaining the site must realize that it may be several years before gaining any measure of success. Otherwise, expect to be ground under eBay's heel until you can't "roll with the punches" any more.
To think that any site will appear overnight which can threaten eBay is ridiculous. An alternative to eBay is inevitable. Eventually eBay will force collectible sellers out. It's up to us to decide whether we want to build the next eBay, or build something for us.

I don't agree that sellers are clueless. Some that I talk to are in it "for the money" and were never into the "community feeling" to begin with. They could care less about that aspect of it.
They are good sellers, adapting along the way. They are friendly to their customers but are just not into the community thing at all and they never will be. It is mostly just business for them. If ebay no longer works for them they will do business elsewhere.

Thank you Shaani...well said!
I think there are a lot more sellers out there who see this as just business. If this venue fades away those sellers will move on to something else.
As to the prediction that ebay is trying to get rid of the mom & pop sellers...it is all fortune telling...based on nothing. None of those making these statements are privy to the private discussions, memos etc that occur at ebay. Its all speculation colored by each persons feelings about ebay. And it has as much validity as looking into a crystal ball does.
If you feel ebay is squashing the small seller then plan your strategy accordingly...but stop with the name calling and put downs of those who don't agree with your predictions, or who think you might be right but have a different strategy than running out to build up a competitor.
Telling people they are clueless, cheerleaders, have their heads in the sand etc doesn't do much to prove your position

I beg to differ:
Annyone who cannot see the direction Ebay is heading DOES have their head in the sand. And after it is explained to them and they still keep denying it, it's quite accurate to say that they are clueless.
Let me say it ONE MORE TIME:
I enjoy Ebay very much. I have made a lot of money using Ebay.
HOWEVER, anyone who has ever taken any business instruction AT ALL, would know that as long as there is NO VIABLE ALTERNATIVE to Ebay, they will continue to write and rewrite the rules until you can no longer squeeze a reasonable profit. It's called a MONOPOLY.
ANYONE who thinks Ebay DOES NOT need an alternative IS clueless, AND has NO BUSINESS ON THIS THREAD.
This thread was started by me to discuss ALTERNATIVES to Ebay, NOT to argue about whether or not they are necessary, because to those with some real business insight, an alternative(s) clearly are necessary.
If you are an Ebay cheerleader, go on your merry way. Start a whole new thread about how Ebay is your best friend and is looking out for YOU. That IS NOT what THIS thread is about.

Amy, while eBay has not specifically stated that they intend to do away with small sellers, they have said it quite plainly in many ways. It doesn't take a crystal ball. I stand by my comments.
I have no criticism of sellers who are only in it for the money, and who could care less about community. And if you'll read my comments, the last thing I'm suggesting is running out and building up a competitor.
I'm sorry you take personal offence at the word "clueless," but the handwriting is on the wall at eBay. This is nothing new. I've been watching eBay's seller unfriendly tactics for over three years, and been a member over four years. And I can tell you that in one issue after another, eBay has never backed its sellers, despite eBay's candy-coating.
Sellers who "roll with the punches" at eBay will eventually get punched out. When was the last time you saw collectibles or fine antiques for sale at K-Mart?

I agree--
I couldn't care less about community.
Where did that notion come into this thread???
The "community" is for those who have nothing else to do with their lives. I pretty much care ONLY about making money, and as long as sellers have NO LEVERAGE against Ebay (with an alternative) we will be at their disposal.

The sellers that I am talking about all agree that it would be great to have an alternative to ebay.
But they are riding the ebay wave all they can and concentrating on every cent that they can pull out of it while it is hot. This is just one more "ride" of their life. When it ends they will go on to the next thing. None of them are clueless about the politics and changes within ebay and they don't have their heads in any sand.
Never once have I ever said that ebay does not need an alternative. I have listed on alternative sites. Sooner or later there will be more competition for ebay.
Now, I will just rotate here so the slap doesn't hurt so much!
