I don't have any more knowlege than anyone. I took a community college course on Internet, and as a class project I put together a web page. Web page design was not taught in the course, it just picked it up myself in a few hours.
Also, I'm very frugal. I don't have the money to pay someone 5% of my sales just to host my pictures for me. BTW, you can find any number of free shopping carts available for download on the web. Just go to your favorite search engine and type in "free shopping cart." In fact, I think I just saw one at www.javascript.com.
I don't fault anyone for not maintaining their own web site, but really it's so easy.... The hosting services know that most folks are too intimidated and would rather pay someone to do it. Unfortunately, every service now has a finger in your pie, and what's left over for the seller is precious little. I put five or six pics in my eBay ads. Paying eBay would do that would cost me $20,000 a year.
Really, everyone thinks they must pay eBay's fees, no matter how outrageous.
I wonder if eBay will try these strongarm tactics with their big corporate customers. I imagine the sparks will fly when those new e-tailers meet the eBay we are familiar with.

Nothing. Zip, Nada Blippo!
In fact, I have stopped giving eBay any of my hard earned money any more. They don't deserve it, haven't earned it and won't get another cent of it! Amen!

Since AOL message boards were the EARLIEST meeting places for person-to-person buying & selling on the Net, it seems strange that AOL never jumped on the Auction bandwagon and started their own. They've had everything necessary almost since their beginning (except their technology, which was sorely lacking for the first few years---but, then, so was and STILL IS eBay's)....and their built-in captive audience of AOL members would almost GUARANTEE success.
So why has AOL never had their own auction to compete with eBay???????????

granee: AOL and eBay have an alliance. AOL probably figured that it didn't need an auction house, because they were able to form some kind of deal with eBay - golly, a year or so ago at least.
That's where a lot of the "0" Feedback users and NPBs have come from. *sigh*
AOL provides "doors" into eBay for their membership. Their "captive audience" then becomes LESS 'captive', since folks tend to check into eBay - but they don't check OUT. *smile*
If AOL knew THEN what they know NOW... perhaps they would have started their own auction.
Does anyone know how long the agreement between eBay and AOL is for?
Well it's daylight out... gotta go for my morning run and then come back to the PC to check my www.sellyouritem.com listings! (I had another auction end over there last night with Buy Now... EXCITING!!!)
