Yes, pwolf, Letchworth State Park was exactly where I was! Good detective work.

Antiquealley,

No detective work, there's only a couple of state parks here! I spent all day Sunday at Letchworth, trying out my new digital camera. It takes some awesome pictures!

Don't know if you get out this way very often, but there's a weekly auction in the area that still has lots of good box lot deals.

And the town of Castile (west side of the park)is having their town wide sales this weekend. Should be better than the ones last week.

Here's a picture from the park, taken with a Mavica FD90.

One thing I do from time to time is a price check on eBay right in front of the seller. I run a "I buy old toys etc." ad in a local paper and every week I get the "I can get $400 for that Barbie on eBay story". I know they can't so I whip out my notebook and ask for a phone line. I look up completed auctions and show them their item is worth $50. Then they always take out grandma's dishes and nick nacks.."what's this worth? And check this item for me" They thought they could buy a lakefront home from granny's chipped depression glass collection. Oh the sad little faces...it's a hoot.

I can beat that one. My wife uses my Palm VIIx wireless to check eBay prices on stuff she finds at garage sales. Talk about the ultimate in convenience.

Went to an "area-wide" sale last weekend and one place had a TON of really neat old stuff...all very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, most of it was vintage farm stuff (tools, tack, etc.) and I don't know a thing about that sort of thing so passed on what I think were really good deals. Like others, though, I've found this to be the exception rather than the rule these days. Most garage sales have truly outlandish prices on junk...

I still find plenty of treasures at garage sales. Just yesterday I found a BEAUTIFUL Hull vase for $37! Now $37 might seem awful high to some of you, but Hull pottery fetches $80-$125 on auction. The exact vase I found is now at $85 on an auction on Ebay. I also found a Fisher Price Dump Truckers play set for $10. Once again, this might sound really high, but they go for $40-$50 on Ebay. You just have to do your research and you will find some great deals. And the sellers will also think they are getting a great deal. It's a win-win situation!
