Odd....a small industrial robot for $15,000. Wasn't mine tho so I didn't get to keep all the money. Nice thing was the party that bought it picked it up so no worries about shipping.

So weird when your post mentioned greatest artist my mind went right away to Andrew Wyeth! Can't believe that's who it was!

I'm using a Mavica FD 73. The above picture pages are a white background, anyone know why I can't get a white background with this camera? Never have yet & have tried many different lightings.

I can't tell you how to correct in fully in the camera but setting the EV to the + helps.
Howerver here is what you can do with Microsoft Photo Editor
The original shot with an FD-7 of title page.
The same shot using autobalance on the imaige menu:
The same shot doing a manual balance of gamma and contrast:
The same shot in black and white instead of color and edited for balance:

I just tried what you said, set the EV to + & it's much better, but not as good as yours.
Thank's for the help.
Jane
PS I didn't sell the book, I canceled the auction at 3000.00, an hour before it ended.
I knew it was valuable, but the bids suprised me so much I decided to hold on to it for awhile since it's one of a kind I know the price won't drop & there is no hurry ro sell it.

McJane - I have ArcSoft also. They work very much the same for this. Microsoft Photo Editor comes with Windoze 98 but I don't think it is installed on the "usual" install - you have to pop your CD in and install it if you did not do a custom install. I would like to upgrade to your camera because you have a little better resolution and sometimes I need it. Nice book!!

mcjane - if you do want to sell it in the future, I'd suggest going through one of the major auction houses, maybe one specializing in art/artists, and not eBay.

gravid, I hate to be a pest, but exactly how can I do that with arc soft. The difference is unbelievable & I would be able to use a white background on my auction photos.
topdog,
if you email me at [email protected] I will send you the #. The pictures are no longer there & you will have to click on bid history.
RainyBear,
Good advice, I will do that. This is the only treasure I ever found & I kind of thought it just might be worth more.
I also have an absolutely mint copy of Christina's World that is signed by both Andrew & Betsy James Wyeth & I would like to sell them together.
Thank you for your suggestion.
I live in Glen Mills, PA & the Wyeths have a home in Chadds Ford, PA which is two miles from here.
So, I guess it's not unusual that if something of theirs so different would show up it would be in this area. I'm always looking.

Since it looks like Gravid may have stepped out, I'll try to help with the photo lightening thing --
I haven't used ArcSoft but both Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro have functions which will let you adjust brightness and contrast. I use them all the time to lighten photos like that. Look under your pull-down menus to see if you can find an "Adjust" menu, and look for Brightness or Contrast or Brightness/Contrast or something similar.
Also, you can adjust brightness on your Mavica before taking a picture. You may already know this, but there's a little button on the left which says "BRIGHT" -- if you push the "+" side it will take a lighter picture, and if you push the "-" side it will take a darker picture. If you haven't tried it, give it a whirl.

RB, I'm still here, had to take a quick shower, going out for dinner tonight.
I know how to adjust the camera, but when I set the brightness all the way up the picture looks faded. I will check the menu on arc soft & try that. I was very impressed with gravid's work on his/her picture and need to learn how to do it. I have seen brightness & contrast on arc soft, but when I use it I seem to loose detail. gravid didn't seem to loose detail & with arc soft I admit I never tried it to lighten a white background.
Thanks again for good information.

Sorry - I was away making dinner. In Arc Soft
you want to pull down the enhance menu and you have brightmess and contrast controls but it does not have a gamma control like microsoft photo editor but the threshhold contorl in the same menu appears to do substantially the same.
Practice altering a few pics with these three controls and you will find a combo that pretty much makes the raw file from your camera look good. I would keep a little pad on the desk to keep track of what you are trying so you don't lose track and repeat or lose a good combination when you find it. I will play with it a little and report back.
Ok here is the original camera file above edited +30% contrast and from 70 to 105 threshold with Arc Soft:
It is hard to keep a few pixels from dropping out and ruining the sharp edge but if you refine the changes it should get better.
Of course Corel Draw or Picture Publisher will do a better job but they are very hard
to learn the full use of and run about $300.Paint Shop Pro is an inbetween program that is very nice, and I think about $50.

I just went to talk to my hubby, who studied art in college, including Wyeth. He sat back, put his hands behind his head, and gave me the biggest grin I have seen in a long time ....

gravid, sorry, I have been out all evening.
Arc soft doesn't seem as good as the program you use, but it will have to do. Tomorrow I am going to play around with it & also use the numbers you gave me. What you did with your picture was unbelievable, I never thought something so dark & dismal could change that much.
Becky, I've been to the Brandywine museum several times & have seen paintings by NC, Andrew & Jamie Wyeth, in fact I think the entire Wyeth family paints, some a lot more colorful than others. I guess my favorite painting, as well as many other's favorite is Master Bedroom and then Christina's World.
I know the books I have were gifts to someone from the Wyeths that he sold to someone & then were sold to me. There are a few more books to be had & I think I will be able to buy them. One has original sketches by Jamie Wyeth inside the front cover & the other has a drawing and signature in ink by Andrew Wyeth on the title page.
If & when I get them I will be sure to post a picture for your husband to see.
Thank you for your advice & I will not list them on eBay. I agree with you on that for sure.
Jane
