Oh boy-this could go on all night. It's been one of those weeks!
people who gossip and then warn you not to tell anyone who 'told you'(my teacher's aide)
People who know what's best for you and tell you all the time (my teacher's aide)
People who expect you to sell it to them wholesale
People who tell you that you need to weed your garden, shampoo your carpet, paint your trim-like you didn't know that?
Parents who come into my classroom and holler across the room to their kids while I'm teaching!!!!
Parents who tell me to make sure their kid: comes straight home after school, doesn't play with Martha's nasty little boy, doesn't eat hot dogs, take their medicine, etc, etc. (I teach seniors!)
Parents who tell me that it's my fault their kid failed because I expect them to do homework during football season, basketball season, weekends, weekdays, etc, etc.
****Principals who tell me its MY responsibility to MAKE these kids succeed!! Ever tried to make that horse drink when he didn't want to, and mama horse wouldn't make him?***
If you haven't already guessed, report cards came out today-90 out of 170 high school kids are failing at least one class, some as many as 5, and every administrator is looking for someone to blame, besides the kids who are of course just innocent victims of our ineptitude.
Sorry, I'm gonna take my zoloft and go to bed. I have to go to school tomorrow and stomp out more ignorance!

I have two new pet peeves:
Utility companies that don't let people know when they are going to turn important things off!
This new pet peeve bloomed this morning, when I discovered that I had no water. I tried several faucets--no go. Heard clanking outside & discovered that the water company had shut of my water (& presumably others on the block) to fix a problem at my neighbor's house....yes, the same neighbor of the 20+ unneutered cats. <eyelid twitches spasmodically>
Water has been pooling in front of their house for several days now, but there was no advance notice given about the water shut off--they didn't even bother to knock on my door this morning! And so, without benefit of a shower, brushed teeth, or even a clean face (not to mention a flushed toilet), I set out for work, where I sneaked into the restroom to brush & wash said teeth & face. grrrrr
Complaint departments for utility companies that are closed on Fridays
This pet peeve blossomed when I tried to complain about the previous pet peeve. I got a sweet little message that told me their Monday-Thursday hours. So helpful. I will be calling them on Monday, you can be sure.
Oh, and I will have an *additional* complaint for them on Monday. Being a bit flustered this morning, I rushed off to work--when I came back tonight after being gone about 12 hours I discovered that I had left the tub & sink faucets *on* this morning. How many hours was water gushing away today? And this will add how much to my water bill? Fortunately, my drains were clear--or I'd have yet a third complaint to voice in their shell-like ears next week...

bearmom, Bless your heart. It's a hard fight you live everyday.
My kids are still in gradeschool, they are always on teachers honor role. My oldest is always on teachers and principles honor roll.
I give no fuss when mistakes are made, I encourage them in every way possible and I give to them a huge hug and smile and no other rewards for good grades.
I want you to know how much teachers mean to me. I've had a run in or two with a couple and resolved it for good or bad but my experience on the whole is that teachers are genuinely and whole heartedly dedicated to helping children to become whatever they want to become.
We are a team you and I. I truly wish that more parents could know this kinship with educators. It is how our children grow to fulfill dreams.
I tried home school in WI for a time and found that I'm sadly lacking in the skills and patience to provide my kids with the education they require.
So again I say bless you and I am astounded by the skills and patience that teachers have.
I'm supposed to sleep now, and so I will, but I had to write to you first.

Barry~My folks had the same number since before I was born. A pizza place opened in town that was 1 diget different than theirs and the calls started rolling in. At first we were polite, then rude, then we asked the pizza place to change their number. They said no, so we started taking orders. Yes, you can pick up your 3 large pizza's in 15min. ect. They changed their number. My pet peeve is people who can't count to 10 in express lanes.

Alot of great peeves. Is it the full moon or PMS? I have to agree with most of them.
However when I am in Europe most of them don't apply except the freaking cell phone manners. No one can get the phone company to install a line so they all have cell phones.
In Europe little kids don't lay in the aisles of establishments. Their parents would warm their butts. People open doors, answer questions unless you work in government then all of the above does not apply.
However, little dogs frequent unusual places. The chair next to you in a restaurant or station, the counter in a public restroom. Sitting next to the butcher on his chopping block and no, he is NOT dinner. At the bar where your beverage is being poured. and so on........aka FIFI

Actually, that's one of the things I *like* about Europe. One my fondest UK memories: riding on a train with a family that had a dog on the seat. A woman got on they got ready to put the dog on the floor so she could sit down. Before they could, though, she got nasty, had a fit & called the conductor & demanded that he *do* something about it...he looked at her then the dog and replied "the dog has a ticket." He left, leaving the woman gobbling like a turkey, the train started up--and the family didn't move the dog.

Bunnicula~ I don't have a problem with the dog having a purchased seat I have a problem with some of the sanitary aspects if you get my drift.

Stalking parking spots is my pet peeve.
Have you ever had to wait behind a car that is waiting for another car to pull out? I'm not talking about a car with the backup lights on. I'm talking about waiting on a shopper that seems to be headed toward a car that can save you a few extra steps to the store. Time and time and time I see these people that will waste 5 minutes so they can save 15 seconds of walking.
My first wife used to drive around and around and around the parking lot looking for that perfect parking space. It was like a quest for the holy grail. One day after we circled the parking lot for the 9th time I lost my patience... I pull the gun from the glove compartment and shot her 5 times. The legal fees were high but the court did agree I was provoked beyond what a reasonable person should have to tolerate and I was acquitted.
Remember that legal ruling should I be blocked behind you while you wait for that perfect parking spot, as soon as a person unloads 3 shopping carts worth of groceries into their car.

First I have to say thank you to bearmom. You are a much better person than I am, I would just have to kick some of those parents in the shins. To blame a teacher for the laziness or simple lack of caring of their child is just wrong. Here's an idea... GET INVOLVED in your child's education.
My pet peeves...
The sheer number of people that think a lot is one word....
Cigarettes being tossed out car windows. Just because they are small, doesn't mean they are not litter...
Parents that think having their child jump out of a clothing rack in the department store is "cute". No, it's annoying. I wonder if they would think it's cute if some old woman had a heart attack when their child jumped out.
People that think disciplining a child is child abuse. A small swat to a child's bottom (through a diaper) isnot going to hurt the child, it will just give the child a response he or she didn't want. It also won't hurt the child's self esteem.
Two words... TURN SIGNAL. Does anyone know what they are used for anymore? How hard is it to flip the switch?
It's always someone else's fault. 20 years ago if someone fell on the street, he (or she) would get up and look around to make sure no one saw him (or her) being a clutz. Now he gets up and looks for someone to testify that there was a stone the city didn't pick up. And juries allow it.
OK, I think I'm done. I certainly don't want to offend anyone, and if I did, I'm sorry. I just want people to start being more willing to take responsibility for their own actions.
