Hi Darrell -- Any CueCat can be a useful barcode reader without their annoying CD software. There are many barcode reader software for the CueCat. I use Catnip on my win2k box. Works great:

As a side note, I was able to scan in my DC barcode once I re-aligned my ink jet printer heads. Its not laser, but the barcode scans most of the time.
