Bill,

On-line payment, about a $20 item. Another ebay seller w/more feedback than me but (you'll LOVE this), states in TOS that items shipped within 5 days after receiving payment.

Of course us Americans are impatient..otherwise we'd be preparing to call Camilla, "Her Highness".

And thanks for your follow up suggestion, Bill. What are you trying to do, make sure I go an even earlier grave.

misscandle,

You were right on. I could tell from the get go nothing would appease this buyer, so I just filed the email away & said nothing. The happy hands voted for ESAD but they have been subdued.

A belly ring?!

paintpower,

Unfortunately, the only horse sale my daughter wants to attend is Keeneland's. Then I'll be chained to unreasonable buyers for the rest of my unnatural life.

mballai

I applaud your approach and am sure your customers are some of the most satisfied on ebay. However, most one person operations, be they online or B&M cannot be there 24/7.

dejavu,

Quit buying from those wackos and come buy from all of us!

My thanks to everyone. I felt the time frame was reasonable even though it was a bit longer than I normally try and ship so I'm comfortable that I've done nothing totally evil.

...not surprised, its always the small sales that cause the most grief....

Mathematically: grief varies inversely with the size of the profit!

And on the last point, I'll send you a shovel!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FWIW I do run a one person business. It really doesn't take much to check your email three times a day, pack once daily and ship once each business day. That's all it takes to do 24x7 for most customers perceptions. Things might be different if my volume was real high, but then I'd make a decision to go full-time.

eBay sellers need to decide if this is a hobby or a service-centered business. You can't have both.

Ignore her. I'm happy if the item is shipped within a week.

Depends on how much you charge for shipping. If you charge more, they should expect it in 3-10 days. If they pay less, 10-30 days.

quickdraw29,

I'm not seeing how the amount I charge for shipping matters unless I'm charging for overnight delivery which I wasn't.

Eventer, many people are willing to pay more to receive the status that they are getting their package faster than another customer who was willing to pay less for slower service. These high status buyers are my target market.

Most sellers don't realize that delivery and packaging are often the only thing that really differentiates one seller from another. Very few of the sellers I've dealt with on eBay or the web have understood this concept.

When I first started out I shipped within 24 hours of receipt of payment whether it was Pay Pal, a money order or a personal check.

Since suffering a severe back injury earlier this summer, I have to rely on friends to help me with Post office runs and it looks like I will have to limit myself to two post office runs a week in fairness to my friends who are helping me out. I am thinking Tuesday and Saturday so that could mean 3 days after payment. I feel bad about it but I don't see an alternative. I also don't see most sellers I deal with having any problem sitting on my item for 7-10 days after payment so I don't think I'll get negs over it.

NothingYouNeed:

Don't feel bad-----there's nothing wrong with shipping only once or twice a week. The key is to disclose that in your listing.

My auctions state that I ship next business day but most of the time I ship the same day. The post office is close so I can do that.

Eventer, if as you say, the buyer is also a seller who ships within five days, yet complains about your two-day shipping, then she is more than unreasonable.

NothingYouNeed,

You can say something to the effect of "I ship on Tuesdays and Saturdays due to carpooling arrangements."

My TOS says 3 days after payment for M.O. and 10 day wait for checks.( not Saturday,Sunday,Holiday ) So far only Kudos for fast ship from buyers (OK I'm lucky, but glad)Most buyers (people) understand a reasonable time frame. I ship USPS and how long they take is out of my dept. Even with snail=mail customers usually get their delivery within 5 days from coast to coast (like the buyer said "I sent it on the 1st and you are saying that on the 29th you still have not received payment". I send an email when I ship and relive the customer of that pressure and it also gives them an action of recourse if anything go's wrong. Worked fo 4 years so=far. Small shipper though, but I do not belive that makes any diff., make a plan and follow through with it. I'm with the Ebay idea " most people are honest " and when they are not, 'O boy';
