Everyone must be only listing and not looking or bidding - at least that's what it looks like as far as my auctions go ...I don't know if counters are wrong, but am only showing "0"s and "1"s on my hits and still only have one winning auction to date... - just wish "something" would start happening for me...

I'm wondering if bidville shot up to 300,000 listings based on the demise of yahoo as a free listing site - actually i'm almost surprised it didn't go higher, but in any case, its easy to pump up the "number of items listed" with a lot of low-cost categories like recipe cards.
I'll be curious to see if it increases substantially in size with a more general mix of merchandise, or if their big windfall is over?

Many don't realize that bidville exists yet, but word will get out and I think it'll be much more active by summer

I sell stamps, cd's, records and other small items. I am selling more on BidVille and am getting more hits on BidVille than I was on Yahoo! Hey I had a cassette tape listed on Yahoo for over 9 months listed at $1.00. Never sold it. I listed it on BidVille for $1.00 and it sold the first week. so just hang in there. The hits are getting better all the time on BidVille.

I have had 10 auctions close with winners and I have been paid for 9 of them, so far on approixmately 1000 items. On the Yahoo auctions BB someone stated that you had a 1 in 13 chance of getting a bid on your items at Yahoo, well, BidVille is doing okay by those standards, in my books, considering how long they have been up and running and with no search engines detecting them! Was anyone around when Yahoo Auctions first started? There were no bids! I would go forever without a bid, they didn't even have a feedback system for the bidders. How stupid is that?
I also placed a bid on Bidville on an item lastnight.
Maybe us "sellers" should go into BidVille and bid on something, surely most sellers are bidders as well. That would help out the new sellers.

according to todays auction counts, BIDVILLE seems to be the #2 auction site behind EGREED. (NOTE--- there is one site listed with more, but as they are counting items instead of auctions, I believe this should discount their numbers)
Why doe sthe #5 Auction site rate the fronnt door forum, and the #2 goes to the 'basement'?

I posted Time for changes: Bidville and Yahoo!Auctions to the Moderator's Corner on February 10. Pat (Moderator) followed up with the suggestion would be referred to administration, but only a few days have passed.

Maybe becuase the folks who have to rearrange the lists know that they will just have to change it back again in a little while when when BidVille goes t-up.
Kinda like that poor guy who has to keep changing the gasoline price signs
Now why should the AW administrator makes plans to change Bidville back to "Other Online Auctions" if they are rewarded with top page status.
I'm still browsing Yahoo!AuctionsLITE but in the categories that interest me have found ZILCH worth bidding; rather have found and bid on FOUR ITEMS at Bidville.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to put clickable links as signatures on my e-mail (compuserve for isp). Seems like that would be a good way of making people aware of what I'm doing. You know whether you e-mail a friend, your realtor forward a joke to a friend etc. Your calling card would always be there. I always send e-mails when I get the checks, ship etc. If it's not against anybody's rules if all the sellers did it that should help with exposure???

I might be asking a dumb question but what's Bidville's web address? I tried Bidville.com last night and came up with an invalid page.
I've heard alot about the site.. and wanted to check things out. I'm fed up with e-bay's fee pricing. Which from what I hear.. so are alot of other sellers...

I predict by the end of the year Bidville will be at 2 million auctions. Seems like word of mouth is really working. I have been telling all my customers.

bidville needs more bidders. perhaps, the "build it and they will come" will work but millions of listings do not guarantee millions of buyers.

nobody gave Yahoo a chance in hell, when everybody at ebay were upset over the it's only a buck.
we all worked hard to get visability to Yahoo and we did get it didn't we.
so now I think Bidville has the same chance if enough word gets out.
I've been using all my message boards on my service to show items being auctioned and hit the news groups.
have added my web page to every thing I send out with bidville included.
It's going to take a lot of word of mouth.
And also letting past repeat customers know about it also.
I do hope if we build it they will come!!!!

That should be the new Bidville mantra
"build it and they will come"

Bidville better speed up the Site thou! It's been very hard to navigate for days. Not Good! Bad if we want Buyers and not good for Sellers.

You don't seriously expect AW to rush out and re-design their web pages now that bidville has managed to attract 300,000 recipe cards and trading cards from yahoo? In 6 months bidville will be either out of business or will be charging a fee, in which case it won't be #2 any longer. Or even if it is #2, it will be barely #2, grouped in with a whole bunch of ebay wanna-bes (yahoo, amazon, etc) all with a few hundred thousand listings.
IF bidville somehow has staying power and actually manages to become the legitimate #2 in the online auction business, then we can expect AW to reflect this.
But if the last post is accurate, and the site is slowing from the recent growth, then that is a bad sign for the future...

Let's see, Bidville now has some 309,000 listings, and you say that 300,000 of them are recipe cards and trading cards.
Was your characterization an error, or was it a deliberate misrepresentation?

#1 I think you have this confused with another auction site.
#2 Well they still have more than Yahoo, so at the least, Yahoo deserves to be in the basement with the rest of the also runners

Yes, it does, but why make extra work for yourself? This would be like fixing up the old house just so you can tear it down. Or saving the life of a convicted murdered just so you can execute him

Because BidVille won't be around this time next year.

"Maybe us "sellers" should go into BidVille and bid on something,"
Now, that's the best piece of advice I have heard so far, and is the ONLY way BidVille or any of these upstarts stand any chance of success. This, btw, is one of those ideas that the seller's co-op pushers have left out of their equation. It seems to be all about "sell, sell, sell". What about "buy, buy, buy"?
Just out of curiosity, is the "placement" on AW based on:
1. The number of posts relating that that site?
2. The number of listings on that site?
3. The "success" of that site?
4. Alphabetically?
If you believe that BidVille should rise to the top just because they have a gazillion listings, I don't agree

RB,
I was wondering and No, I am not asking for the user name, where you list at? I could list on Ebay, but would most likely lose $'s. I feel that whatever I sell for 0 cost on a auction site, I am better off. I sold on Yahoo for almost 3 years and didn't spend a penny! For that I am thankful. I have replaced Yahoo with BidVille, and if they go under (which I doubt) I feel there will be another one to go to!
FairMarket Auctions was on the top page, but its been deleted and now included with "other online auctions".
Its self-fulfilling. Where there were messages, there are now few if any.
I believe Bidville should have a top page forum, because the number of listings is well above that of Yahoo!Auctions; is gaining momentum with 3% more listings than yesterday, while Yahoo!Auctions appears to be continuing its listings decline (albeit more slowly), and, YES, because its an alphabetical thing.
On the last one.
Put Bidville on the top page and it will generate more threads than it does now.

I am (was) primarily a buyer. I listed and sold a few things on eBay, then somehow got their ire up when I listed some studio tapes that they thought were illegal. I offered to give them proof of legality, and when I relisted them, they suspended me. Up until that time I had sold maybe a dozen items on eBay (and made some good bucks), and purchased around 300. My feedback, for what it's worth, was getting fairly high with only 1 neg (I told a seller to take a hike when he insisted on an extra $3.50 to accept a Canada Post Money Order ... which can be cashed at any USPS outlet with zero fees).
Prior to that, I did a LOT of buying (DVD's) on Amazon.
I tried listing some "real" rare (not the abused definition of this word) video tapes on BidVille with very low prices (3.50 plus 3.50 to air mail anywhere in North America ... cheaper than the actual rate). I left them there for a few rounds of relists, didn't get a bid, and pulled them.
As I have not been able to find the kind of stuff I am looking for on BidVille (I have been collecting and trading television episodes worldwide for the past 16 years ... I am always looking for things like Emmy Consideration tapes, Columbia House collections, etc.), I thought I would check out their listings for movies on tape and DVD. The pricing on the majority of these items is WAY out of line ... most of the ones I am interested in are listed as "previewed" or "used" on BidVille, and I can buy them brand new locally for considerably less. I did email a couple of (different) sellers to inquire prior to bidding, but when one told me she would only accept cash (or that idiot PayPal) from a Canadian, and the other one told me that the cost to air mail a single tape from Florida to Manitoba would be $13.00 (US), I totally lost interest.
I also checked out a couple of VCR's and some camera accessories on BidVille ... same story ... way too high priced compared to retail.
I honestly thought a new site would encourage sellers to lower their profits a bit, for awhile, at least until some buyers were attracted, but that does not appear to be the case. That is why, IMHO, BidVille et al will not survive.
The days of garage sale shoppers finding out about on-line auctions and having some fun buying and selling are gone. As much as I hate to agree with Yahoooo, most of the stuff on their site was "junk". And, most of the sellers on the new sites are simply guys trying to sell there what they can't sell in their stores.
In other words, again IMHO, these auction sites are now just like "The Mall" ... a bunch of retailers trying to peddle product the cheap way.
So, until or unless eBay decides to admit they erred, or until you sellers start listing the kind of stuff I am looking for (at reasonable prices) on BidVille, I won't be doing too much buying.
I am still buying at Yahoooooo though ... remember them
