JUMPIN*JACK, I just took a look at your auctions. There are two jpg's that take forever to load, even on my cable connection. One of them never did load, and had a red X instead, right at the beginning of the description. The mail truck picture with the spinning wheels is the one that took close to 30 seconds to finally load.

I guess I don't see the purpose of a USPS mail truck graphic loading well before the actual picture of the item that is FOR SALE? The picture is quite large also. I just looked at another auction, and again, that top graphic doesn't ever load.

You do have great FB however, but how about losing the ALL CAPS? It is really hard to read I think, at least I find it so.

Just FYI...

Music.
Anything that flashes or dances or scrolls.
Wallpaper.
Garish colors.
Bitmaps, they are huge and often blurry
Yellow fonts on a black ground.
20 point typeface.
All caps.
TOS that are the first thing I see as opposed to the description.
Any TOS that uses the word "RULES".
TOS that demand payment be received in less than 7 days.
TOS that have veiled or direct threats.
TOS that state the buyer must make first contact.
Andale auctions.
A lot of auctions that use IPIX.
Huge images that I need to scroll
Rotten descriptions, such as "See picture".
Pages with so much junk that they take longer than 15 seconds to load with a T1 connection.
The first thing I see on the page is a Power Seller logo with text telling me what a wonderful seller this person believes s/he is.
Images that show more kitchen counter than the item.
More than 10 typos.
Outrageous shipping charges.
Auction that say buyer pays all shipping charges without at least a dollar range or estimate, or how the parcel will be sent.
Cashiers check or MO only.
Bidpay only.

Jumpin

Glad to see there are people out there who are doing everything wrong (according to this crowd) and still doing a lot of business.

With that many happy customers and so few complaints, you have to be doing something right.

Hmmmmmm....let's see, what am I guilty of?

I don't take any electronic payments - no PayPal or BidPay. But I DO take checks, MO's, BidPay. And I don't hold checks - I ship the day after receipt.

I DO have a moving .gif image on my email icon - a cute little dog I found. I like it.

Right now I have a scrolling location up at the top in the "location" field - but I was thinking of un-scrolling that anyway.

Other than that, I THINK I'm okay. I haven't listed in over a month, so I don't know if you'd be able to pull up any of my past ones.

The choice of model for the outfit in ebay item #1632086838 ...

1) Music in an auction ad
2) Exact amount for shipping not listed in ad - I don't care how high or low it is, just as long as it's listed up front. I decide how high I'm willing to go on an item based on my total cost, including shipping.
3) ALL CAPS in the auction ad.
4) Seller won't accept Paypal OR Billpoint
5) Sellers using Andale or any other service where you have to go through some checkout process or fill out forms
6)Low or bad feedback
7) No or bad picture
8) Power seller logo (Almost every bad customer service experience I've had as a buyer on Ebay has been with a Power Seller. They must be too busy to personally answer my email.)
9) Annoying backgrounds that make the text difficult to read.
10) Sellers who use UPS/Fedex only. I get my mail at my PO Box. It is very difficult for me to arrange a UPS or Fedex delivery with my schedule and where I live.

Auction descriptions all in CAPITAL LETTERS.

Wallpaper and music - why bother?

Cutesy cartoon characters, ect that have NOTHING to do with the item being sold that sellers post on their descriptions.

Too high of shipping prices for items that you know damn well would cost a third of the amount to ship.

Head for the hills at the mere mention of those "professional" packaging services, especially Mailboxes Etc.

Yes some of my auctions from last week have some problems
due to my web host suffering from dot com syndrome...
but all my new auctions will have all
the bells and whistles that all my fellow AW threaders hate

as for the CAPS...I think of all the posters, headlines, comic books
and advertizing gimmicks I saw as a kid and they where all with
CAPITAL LETTERS...

well i used to take personal checks, but got burned 4 times by 3 newbies, none of them ever sent a replacement payment, I even offered that they just pay the 6 dollars my bank charged me for bounced check, and they said "can't afford it" My bank told me to ait 14 days and glad I did, or those 4 would have themselves a freebie item! Sorry, but it only takes a few rotten apple for someone to not accept checks anymore. ):

After reading this whole post I have just 2 things to say.
What about buyers that never leave FB?
And, I have actually thought about putting an anti-Paypal rant in my TOS, due to all the people that send an email giving me $#*+ for not using that horrible service, even though, in an attempt to impossibly make everyone freaking ecstatic, I recently signed up.
"I will send you a check, BUT IF YOU USED PAYPAL, YOU'D HAVE YOUR MONEY ALREADY."
This just really bothers me.

beekmanbooks:

I gotta tell you, for smalls like books and other low-priced items, I LOVE the option of using paypal.

If you don't like the fees, keep your account a "personal" one by excluding credit or debit card payments from your buyers' funding options.

Or, if you want to circumvent the paypal fees, just say something like: "I may accept Paypal, but please contact me first"--then give them the option of 'volunteering' to share costs.

I kinda just dont like Paypal and its not the fees, because I like Billpoint (and not bc Bp's fees are lower), but it is the people anyway, more than the service.
But...
On this topic, nothing really makes hit Back, because I only look at stuff I want. If this doesnt make sense, I dont really know how to say it better.
Someone has something I want - that is what is important.

Let's see ....

Scary TOS - sellers who are already in the attack mode - even BEFORE you bid!

ANADALE sellers

Those doggone skillets ya gotta click to see the picture

Failure to mention shipping. I don't mind a handling charge, I figure in shipping and handling to the amount I am willing to spend for that widgit!

Pictures taken in a dirty house! YUK

Sellers who don't take checks. Hey, hold my widgit - I don't care ... but I don't want to have to buy a money order

The auctions where you have to keep moving the screen around to read the description.

NOW, with that said, if I am dying for that doggone widgit, I will bid ... no matter what!

I hit back when I see oversized graphics, flashing or animated GIFs, Cluttered auction pages where I actually have to hunt to find the description and shipping information, really dumb sellers who force load full page cluttered and or dark backgrounds so that I can't even read the text because it's the same color as the background (what are they thinking!)

Wow, I don't know why I'm bothering. Most of my pet peeves have already been mentioned. Seems a *lot* of buyers are irritated by the same things. <G> I agree, all of the above. Silly Java pointer trails, busy, garish backgrounds, MIDI music, animated GIFs, no pictures or those crappy IPIX things that aren't much better than no pic, draconian TOS, five different views of the box the item comes in, but no pics of the item itself, stock shots instead of pics of the actual item, opening bids set at more than the item sells for in local stores, sellers who accept *only* e-payment (sorry, but I don't want my CC numbers in some web site's database. I'm personally acquainted with too many hackers to ever believe that's safe), etc., etc,...

A final gripe, and one that most sellers probably won't understand or agree with. I really, *really* don't like BIN. Many times I've bookmarked an auction with the idea of returning after I've checked out all the other offers of the same item, only to see "Auction has ended with Buy It Now." Enough to drive you away permanently, which wouldn't be a great loss, since from what I've seen lately, the days when you could find real bargains on eBay are long gone anyway. Wish I had a dollar for every time I've seen a used item go for more than the average retail price of a new one.
