It is reported in cbc in canada a Air Plane was shot down to save more lives
I just can not believe this...it's the worst thing i can think of ...This will be one of those days ....when someone askes wear were you when this happend

Of course the PDX is shut down completely, some malls are closed, some schools are closed. All Federal offices in Portland are closed. I am down in Salem and we just had a bomb threat at our capitol building, I live less than a mile from there and have several family members who work in the state office buildings downtown. Military bases in Washington state are in lock down. I am going outside to display my flag now. God be with us.

You know it really helps to have an outlet like the boards here at AW. I was thinking about what happened all morning and it is good to be able to come here and see that everybody is feeling bad. What an incredible tragedy!

Latest report is that an Air Force plane did NOT force down the PA plane. Why it came down either isn't known or isn't being disclosed.
One person asked why the airlines aren't releasing information. One news agency reported they may not be allowed to because the information of who was on board & what happened is considered potential evidence of a crime.
Reports just released the President may be on the move again.

The FBI is here ... they have the 911 tape from the caller. He was in a bathroom and said that they were being hijacked.

All state buildings, including CSU, in California are closed.
Remember--We thought Oklahoma City was the work of Islamic hoodlums but were shocked to find it was a homegrown terror. Don't jump to conclusions about who is responsible until we have some clear evidence.

President is supposedly returning to Washington.
Did anyone see the interview on ABC with the independent photographer who got in after the collapse & got actual footage from right on top of where the WTC used to be. It was like seeing scenes from Hiroshima, ghostly outlines & nothing else.
More buildings around the center are burning & collapsing.

I just heard that the gas went up to $4.00 / gallon in my town. I'm not even going to try to go to my gas station, as I heard they are backed up for miles!!!

I heard that gas was going sky high, and the stations on the corner are really busy right now. I guess I will be doing some walking, since I am not going to fight the crowds to get in line at the station.

I live in SE Michigan, North of Detroit; my son-in-law just left to teach a class and was going to stop for gas. Lines are 1/4 mile long at the gas stations and this is a rural area; didn't hear what prices are.

That is nuts... people are making things much worse than they need to be by panicing like that. There is absolutely no need to make a run on gas stations or anywhere else.

I agree that panic is not the answer, but some people have heard about gas prices and probably figure there will be a shortage if we are counting on the Middle East for our oil. Scary and sad.

This is all utter madness. Not so much the bombings which is terrorism, a tactic long practiced by governments (remember Nagasaki and Dresden?)- but by the reactions to it.
Imagine shutting down an entire nation over a few coordinated bombings. This is absurd. And stupid. The proper way to handle these events is BUSINESS AS USUAL. When you act terrorized and get stupidly paranoid and suddenly turn over all your rights to the government who is ineptly pretending to protect you - then the terrorists have won. If we allow Bin Laden to shut down our economy and our schols - even for a day - then he has won. He is the most powerful man in this country at the moment.
Imagine if the Brits would have shut down England after the buzz bombs started....

The bombing of Dresden and Nagasaki were not terrorist attacks. They were military operations conducted during World War II, a declared war.

There are so many things I do not understand. 3/4 of these flights originated in Boston, what happened to this airport's security that these people got past them? Also, the cockpit door is locked, how did they get in to fly the airplane?
