Last week I listed some books that I knew were good performers and some that I knew I needed luck to sell.
Of the "need luck" a couple sold, of the good performers, they did as well as I hoped. So I think I'm successful this week.

Many of my books don't have a recent EBAY history to go by, so I have to take a chance on whether they'll sell. I rarely deal in fiction.
I list my books by themes when I can. I feel this helps my sales since a buyer may look at the other books of a similar interest and bid on more than one. I hold on to certain themes until I get a bunch and then sell the good ones by the each and the others in groups of 2 or 3. It seems to work for me. I usually list good books with my "get luckies" every week, but I am holding a few I have really high hopes for til next month, when I hope there will be more serious buyers. After all, how many people really need a book on horology?

In my opinion the good stuff stays in the box for now.

Too bad you feel that way.

Now is the time to bring out the "good stuff".

In the words of an antiquer that I know and respect, "Junk will always be junk".

"I rarely deal in fiction."

LOL, me too.

What's horology?

Probably not what I'm thinking.

Our eBay sales are best described as luke warm at the moment, but I suspect we'll begin seeing increased sales in the form of holiday buying the end of this month.

Our wholesale selling is very brisk at the moment, as our buyers are shoring up their holiday inventory. I'm hoping to see our eBay business catch up shortly.

Twinsoft,

I use the word horology when I want to sound "smart" about my old Omega watches...*G*

Victoria,

You never know about watch and clock collectors....we can be a pretty aggressive bunch...just "watch" the Omega, Rolex and Patek-Phillipe auctions sometime on a Sunday night...

I have bids on 2/13 auctions which will be closing today. THey all have a normal amount of hits for the type of item, but usually I see more bidding early on.

Someone started a thread about not being able to log on so if Ebay crashes I am stuck.
I was hoping with the number of hits, that people would be bidding today. I generally have a 60 to 70% sell thru rate on this type of item.

I haven't listed much stuff in fear that it wouldn't sell good. I listed approximately 15 clothing items a couple of weeks ago, only sold 1 of them. I lowered prices, and relisted. Sold 0 of them. I'm now on the third relist and still no bids yet (auctions end next Tuesday). I normally sell most of my stuff. I haven't listed my higher priced stuff yet. Most of these items I listed should sell for $20 or less, each. Some of them I've lowered to $1.99, and still haven't sold.

If they don't sell this time, I think I'll just wait it out.

Right now I have about 40 auctions listed, last time I checked 6 had bids. These won't end until sat-mon, so there's still plenty of time. (Keeping fingers crossed!)
I did have 3 BINs yesterday, which was a nice surprise.
I'm planning on listing another dozen or so tonight and am bringing out some of the good stuff, maybe I'm just an incurable optimist, but I do think things are picking up.

Some great responses here and I'm glad everyone is honest about their situation.

I've done more buying in the past week then I've done in 2 years.

I'll tell ya, for what I collect it doesn't seem like I can get a bargin.
I think I've been paying some pretty good prices for what I want.

There isn't a real big selection to choose from. I'm an avid collector of Nancy Drew books and I've been working on UPGRADING my collection and those books are not going CHEAP!

I too have just been taking pictures and writing descriptions on my "good stuff" and I will wait it out to launch them.

I still feel very strongly about staying with my $1NR format. So to list at this time would be suicide.

I do think I MIGHT test the waters on items that owe me nothing. I really haven't decided yet.....its pretty scary right now for me.

All I know is I can't sleep at night, I toss & turn, I'm up eating and smoking at all hours. Then I get up with such a headache I don't feel like doing anything.

Hubby says "sh$t or get off the pot if it is affecting you that much"!

Again, thanks for letting me vent!

Sell through rates and final bid price have dropped significantly for me since 9/11. Sell was was about 75%, but not I'm lucky if I can get 50%. I found some amazing deals over the weekend, so I hope to sell for less, but still make a good margin.

I had 23 auctions end last Sunday. Gross total $635.00. Lowest item went for $3.25, highest went for $115.00. Not complaining. Listed 25 10 day auctions last Thursday, and so far so good. Total right now is $350.00 with a few days to go. My sales have been up compared to this past summer. I just hope it keeps up for me......

All my BIN items have sold. Regular bidding is down, although I have two high end items getting good action so far.

These fall months I hold back and don't list as much, but I'm doing 3x as much as last year, and selling things with higher margins. All the low end items I just listed them as a lot, or sold them at a garge sale this last weekend.

I'll agree that the video and DVDs sales are the pits, but still selling most of the DVDs I'm listing but they are not bringing as much as they did. I'm scared to even list my videos but will try my Horror ones for Halloween. Most of my T-Shirts and sweatshirts are going off with a BIN so thats what is keeping me going. But I do have diecast cars and some toys that will have to be sold later.Don't look to have alot of luck there.

Go back to page 1 & read the post by Fountainhouse, it seems she was quite clear what she was selling, and that those items did well.

I currently have approx 25 auctions running, some were BIN'd before they went past day 1, some have numerous bids, and most have 4-6 days to go. I sell antiques & collectibles of all shapes & sizes, and in various categories, and the hits are there this week, and so far the bidding is looking pretty decent as well.

All things considered I'm not about to complain about bids or sales.

IMO you have enough repeat customers to keep you going, and if I was you I'd jump back in & get listing again.

Good luck!

Microbes,
I do know what you sell, I remember its boating motors and the like, excluding you, there are many sellers here that I don't have a clue what they sell. (actually I should know with all the clothing and book threads that dominate the board)
They may have mentioned it in a thread, but I don't read all the threads.

It really doesn't matter anyway, if their doing good more power to them.

For what I sell and with the most resent reserch, I need to hold off.

My sales suck! I can’t even get a bite.

I was listing 20-25 items a week but have dropped of to 5. I can’t see paying the fees. I am listing the very same items that sold for 5x what my starting bids are now and I can’t give them away. The only decent sale I made was for an Item donated to the Red Cross.
(NO, NOT A4A I listed it as Check/MO to be made out to the Red Cross)
Hits are less that a quarter of what they were 3 weeks ago
I was getting 150 hits per item now I’m doing good to get 25

I sell a mixture of used and vintage, mostly falling under the broad realm of collectibles. But (non-vintage) used goods are worth messing with if they are popular and good quality to begin with. Lately I've been selling some (non-vintage) books that I got a deal on but those are almost gone.

I don't sell fine antiques, art glass, pottery, china, and things like that, unless I would happen to fall into a deal on something.

I don't regularly sell clothing either. I've tried to sell only one piece of clothing this year and got a deadbeat. However, I'm on the lookout for certain vintage clothing items--I just don't find it. Guess I don't look hard enough for it because I have about a zillion other things I'm more interested in.

I also sell vintage parts that fit popular old stuff. Someone might look at a "thing" and think "to the landfill with this". I see it and think "get the good parts off of it, then to the landfill with it".

I sell just lots of different types of things old and new - clothes, Barbies, toys, dishes, collectibles, craft items etc...

Right now I have 55 auctions running, 15 with at least one bid. Two of the items with bids are re-lists that didn't sell last week. Also had two bins yesterday evening within a couple hours of listing them.

My Halloween costumes and Barbies are doing well right now, clothing is still slow but picking up a little bit.

I was hesitant to list so much this week, but decided to go for it and put out some of my better stuff. The buyers are out there, and if you don't list you can't sell!

Between my auctions & my storefront, I have (I think) 198 items up and listed. Of those 3 were storefront items with some sales, and 2 are AFA auctions with 4 bids..

Other than that, nothing.. 8(

I just started listing again after taking off for a few weeks. I posted ten auctions last night - three already have bids (one with multiple bids) and the rest have enough pageviews that they have a good chance of selling before all's said and done. I'll know better in ten days, but so far the signs look pretty good.

I sell a mixture--right now I have 65 auctions up with player piano rolls, lots of dishes, some books, some cosmetic items, some Tupperware, cake pans...a real mish-mash! So far have bids on 40% of the items (Ruby Lane figures this out for me lol). None of these are high-ticket items.

Over the past five days sold (at pretty good prices) 23 of 27 listings. 85% sell-thru says Ruby Lane. Two of those that didn't sell will get combined into one, and the other two might sell on a relist.

I have been encouraged, and last night posted 20 new auctions (those are included in the total # of 65 I stated above). Already have bids on 6 of this and am getting hits on all of the items.

I haven't had any trouble at all posting new auctions or relisting, but I don't use AW. I'm not sure why the "sudden" eBay change would have impacted AW and not the program I use, since I have not updated my program for a while.
