On Sept 10, I sent a package from TN to CO, which normally takes 2-3 business days.

Sept 12, it arrives in CO, and SHOULD be sorted for delivery.

It was mis sorted, and sent to NJ instead.

Arrives in NJ, and was sent back to CO.

Arrives in CO, Mis sorted AGAIN and sent to NJ.

Arrives in NJ, and was sent back to CO, where the last scan is the unload scan on the 9th of Oct in CO.

Any bets that it is on it's way BACK to NJ?

I have NEVER had them mess up so badly.

My customer is being surprisingly sane through all of this, even though it was sent over a month ago.

Sounds like they couldn't read your writing or you typed the wrong zip code!

Maybe if your customer moves to NJ, she/he can get her package??

I'm close.

I have a package that was shipped to me on Wednesday, October 3rd out of New York that still has not reached me. 9 Days! Should only be 2, 3 tops to my location. The website keeps flopping back and forth with useless tracking information and I'm receiving the same jibberish from their customer service representitives. It's a $2,000.00 package. I've been told that they will put a "trace" on the shipment and should have an answer within 8 days.

8 days? Thanks ahellofa lot...

Bloody incompetents. I could have had it delivered by donkey if I knew it was going to take this long!

Still waiting for an answer and with an 8 day response, we're talking 17 days to find out where the package is. I can't wait to deal with the beuracracy to file this claim. It's going to be a real treat.

At a bare minimum, you need to demand frequent flyer miles for this one....at least you get something in return!

kyriaki, this is UPS. Labels are printed with their software, they are typed, not hand written.

You only enter the name, street address and zip code. THEY pull up the city and state for you.

It is all correct, I assure you.

They clearly have an incompetent oaf in the Colorado sorting facility.

'You only enter the name, street address and zip code. THEY pull up the city and state for you.'

Well then maybe YOU typed in the incorrect zip or the buyer mistakingly sent you the incorrect zip. Calling someone who does this type of repetitive job every day an incompetent oaf because a mistake was made which was not necessarily his fault, is uncalled for in my opinion!

You seem to not understand how UPS works. When you type in the zip, UPS pulls the city and state into the label for you.

If I had input the wrong zip code, the WRONG TOWN AND STATE would have appeared on the label.

It did not. The shipping label is 100% correct as to Name, street, town, state and zip.

The label is correct. Besides the fact I can see it with my own eyes, their OWN tracking information states it was shipped to XXXXXXXXX, CO. They DO have an incompetent oaf working there.

I have no problem with a mistake like that happening once. But twice? And possibly a THIRD time? There is NO excuse for that.

I was going to try UPS instead of using USPS all the time. I don't think I'm going to do that now. I'll stick with the USPS, they seem to be doing a pretty good job with my packages.

Barb,

In over 3000 packages in the last 2 years, this is the first.

I am very surprised at this event, but it is STILL good odds.

I have a very good UPS story here.

I have an antique picture I need shipped and am very leery of packing it myself- 3 feet by 2 feet.

I asked Mailboxes etc and they wanted $20.00 just to pack, not counting the shipping.

I asked the man at our UPS shipping office and he said if I will wrap it in bubble wrap he will do the rest of the packing for nothing. The business they are in has all the boxes, styrofoam and peanuts needed to do the rest of the job. NOT ONE Penny extra!

I also had an item arrive this week broken. he took all the info for the claim and and I was told to have the buyer keep the item and packing for 5 business days just in case they want to send a driver to look at the item and verify it is broken. Try this with USPS insurance!

This shipping office is definitely on my Christmas Candy list this year.

Do you still have your reciept from the PO. It will have the Zip Code they punched in. If it is wrong there is not much you can do about in now, but it is more info to pass along to the customer. It may at least show it was not your fault.

spittingcamel, it was UPS, not the post office.

They have put a tracer on it, and will pay the insurance if it is not delivered in the next week.

It is unbelieveable, though.

I can't beat it w/UPS, but maybe w/USPS.

About three and a half years ago, I moved from East to West coast. While I knew which state I was going to, my final destination as to town unknown. A friend 2/3 of the way says go ahead and mail some of your stuff to me, I have plenty of room. I mail 29 boxes to him. He dies.

His post office holds the stuff for 30 days. I call there, but no one knows anything (they don't see the pile of boxes not being picked up apparently). I also call my PO of origination.

Instead of contacting the original post office (a 5 min call or email), the dead friend's PO ships the stuff back to the East coast. Because I opted for Parcel Post, the stuff can no longer be forwarded to me - I'd have to pay all new postage.

The postmaster at the original PO takes pity on me and says the only fix available is to ship them back to my dead friend w/a note that says to forward them all to me. Now I'll only have to pay postage from the dead friend to me - substantially cheaper than from East to West coast.

They broke everything that could be broken. 2 of the 29 boxes were never found.

Moral of the story: never ship your stuff to a dead friend via the PO. Many of them don't have the sense to pour piss out of a boot.

kidsfeet: I just had lunch with my son who is a loader/scanner for UPS and asked him about your situation. He stated that the most likely scenario is that, at some point in it's first journey, it got up next to a box that had a New Jersey label on it that was not affixed properly. The NJ label is possibly stuck to your box, as well as the CO label. The people in NJ keep sending it to CO and the CO people keep sending it back to Jersey.

My son said to be sure to ask for your shipping $$ back. Each loader belt has a bad scan percentage and they really come down heavy on the scanners and loaders when someone asks for a refund of the shipping.

You stated that you shipped from Tennessee. My son said if you shipped from the Nashville Whites Creek hub, there is about a 1 in 3 chance that he scanned your package originally. He asked me to point out that it was scanned correctly the first time.

Thanks, Dixie. It would have gone through the White's Creek Hub. I have a pick up account, and that is where my packages start their journey.

That does make sense.

I know it was scanned right the first time, it was scanned perfectly until it made it to CO the first time

I am glad that at least there is a logical explanation for it.

It is a SMALL box, though, a one pounder. I can't imagine that another label got stuck to it. It could happen, though.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it shows up somewhere.

The amazing thing is that I have had multiple calls to UPS. They even placed a note in the file for the box to be pulled when it got to CO and placed on the truck for delivery.

I guess the request never made it into the system.

Talk about a continuous loop!! You'd THINK they would call the shipper, or at least ONE of them. If what you described did, indeed, happen, there are TWO shippers out there with lost packages!!

Kidsfeet ~

You're right, I've had really good luck with UPS as well; been with them about 1 1/2 now.

I did have one instance where the bidder said they didn't recieve the package even though the tracking number showed as delivered.

So, I said okay, and started the claim process.

About four days later I get *glowing* feedback from this bidder.

The day after that, I get a letter from UPS saying they resolved the claim BY SENDING THE DRIVER TO THE HOUSE!

Evidently she "remembered" getting it after someone came to her house and told her it was delivered there.

I was very impressed!

Had the same basic screw up, package from Ohio hits the state's distribution center and gets sent back to Ohio. If the seller didn't call and raise hell with the UPS this would have repeated ad nauseum. Someone has to tell the morons to stopped smashing boxes for fun and do their job. They ain't OOPS for nothing.

I once had something similar happen - a package going to Ohio made it there but was then sent to South Carolina. Then back to Ohio. Then South Carolina. Then Ohio (where she eventually got it).

But it wasn't the Post Office's fault. The buyer originally lived in Ohio. Moved to South Carolina and left a forwarding address. Evidently she decided fairly quickly that she prefered Ohio, so she moved back. Left a forward address in South Carolina. But it completely slipped her mind that she had already done this in Ohio.

So, it got to Ohio, forwarded to SC, forwarded to Ohio, etc. etc. You might want to make sure the buyer hasn't moved back-and-forth recently.

Can't help but add to this. My best UPS story ever... they take the term 'drop-shipping' seriously.

I ordered a 17" plasma screen from SGI (at the time they were almost $2,000)...

The UPS guy shows up at my office with the monitor under his left arm and his clip-board in his right hand.

I came out to meet him and what does he do when he wants me to sign for the package? He lifts his left arm and lets the monitor fall to the floor (about 3').... C-R-A-S-H !!!!!

I picked the box up, rattled the contents and handed it back to him... 'Have a nice day'... (duh)...

Not sure who footed the bill or how it got solved but a new monitor showed up about two weeks later...

Regards

Marek

Order supplies at work from R* Office. Two sealed pristine boxes come UPS. Open them up. In one is another UPS box from A*zon to a man in a neighboring city. Called him - old guy, didn't want to drive to get it. Called UPS - told them they were probably having a hard time "tracking" his shipment since it was in our box! Guy couldn't figure it out...they'd been sent from two different hubs. Our boxes were in perfect condition, didn't look resealed or opened. Mystery forever.

Marek -

You appear to be a bit confused. UPS hasn't used clipboards for years. They use a piece of equipment called a dyad that people sign, most of the drivers have it attached to their belt with one of those stretchy things.

They certainly haven't used clipboards since those plasma screens have come about.

So maybe you're not exactly telling the truth here and just trying to make yourself look good at the expense of someone else??

That's not nice!

Kyriaki

And furthermore Marek, a monitor comes in a huge box and it's way to big to fit under anyone's arm!

It sounded like this was something that happened a few years ago, and that it was a flat-screen monitor, which would probably come in a smaller box than a standard monitor.

Of course, I bought a small keyboard a couple of months ago that came in a HUGE box, so who knows...

sounds like kyriaki has never seen a plasma monitor.

I have two.
1) I sent about 30 packages through UPS all to different locations. two items were identical and in identical packaging, one going to Washington state and one to Georgia both marked with the correct addresses. The both show up in Washington, I check the tracking and they both show that they are delivered last scan at the same time in Washington. I call UPS and they picked it up and sent it to the right location I got my bill and they dinged me 5.00 for their screw up, they removed the charge.

2) I UPS a box to Mississippi, it shows scans along the way and it is obvious it is traveling by truck. not that they are pulling everything out of the truck and scanning it every day they just now that this package is in this truck. ok it shows that it hits the building and it is scheduled for delivery three days pass and the customer is pissed so I call UPS they are going to check on it because it still shows up in the system. I get a call that they have found the package I go on line and the stupid thing is back in California, it got put on a rail in Mississippi and was shipped back out here. it then went back on a rail and was shipped back to Mississippi again and it was finely delivered. Funny thing was this was one of the most fragile things I have ever shipped through UPS and the buyer was sending daily emails pissed off that it was going to be damaged and that he wanted his money back, all before he ever even saw the item. It was and still is a supper old cork carving in a glass box that measured 24x8x18. the guy said it was the most awesome item he had bought on ebay and there was only one small piece of cork that was in the bottom that he couldn't see where it could have come from.

USPS
I sent a package to Australia Global Priority and it goes missing about 2 months and they pay on the claim. a month later(now 3 months) the package comes back with a stamps on it from New Zealand, and Austria, not Australia. I really wish I could have taken that trip and not the package. Also once it hit over there even though it was sent Global Priority it came back to me marked Parcel Post.

eBay fees are like being slowly pecked to death by chickens!!!

For what it's worth, my UPS driver has an electronic thing that I sign, but it is shaped & sized like a clipboard. And actually, I've lived here for 6 years now, and I distinctly remember signing a paper on a clipboard since living here and I do believe that it is UPS, and it has been rather recent. But I've had deliveries from both FedEx and UPS.

luvmy2bears,

I didn't watch, but I figure w/the PO, it's like the population in general. A small percentage are going to bright, diligent, etc. A large percentage are going to be varying degrees of average - mistakes made either because of limitations or just human error. And then there's the small percentage who think it's easier to send 29 boxes back 2000 miles than it is to write a 5 minute email. My boxes were apparently handled by someone at the sad end of the bell curve.

Sadie
