These "sleepers" that are supposedly walking among us,from Afganastan, could easily hit ebay sellers with contaminated m/o's.Just think of how many people and areas they would make contact with through ebay..Just my paranoid thought..I have a m/o comming from Florida and I have to say I am a bit nervous about it.. Think I will start taking Pay Pal only.. LOL Go ahead, tell me how paranoid I realy am .....

Sellers may not have to worry about getting mo,becasue no one will dare to buy anything which requires shipping.
come xmas, they wont dare to go to crowded malls, wont dare to buy mail order,a depression is coming.
we are starting to hear companies which do busienss with risky consumers -higher default on car payments, credit card payments, will house forclosure be coming?think of all the airline staff losing their jobs, unless they have mortgage insurance, how long can they keep up with house payment?

Well, I have to say that THAT thought never occured to me...BUT I was thinkin' the other direction, ie. that buyers will be paranoid about getting packages from virtual strangers...

Rancher, but I would hope that the buyers would know that the name and address would be on the return address of the package from the seller, and they knew it was coming. As the Postal Inspecter just announced, to be *cautious* of any letters that you do not who they are, or no return address.
Its on the USPS site on their press releases also.
But, then the payments coming from buyers *could* be a thought.

there was a snippet on the radio today, something about a woman getting a parcel from Iran and having it opened...turned out to be a book she bought used from Amazon. I didn't know there were Iranian sellers on Amazon but why not?
Right after the two cases of anthrax in FL, there was a guy who showed up at the hospital minutes from my house who at first they thought might have it, but it turned out to be a false alarm. Living so near DC I feel both skitterish and fatalistic.

I added my Ebay Storefront name to my address labels, and its mentioned in my EOA notices, so that people will see that and hopefully remember buying from me. 8)

From a different perspective:
How many terrorists do you *really* think are registered with eBay?
I am a seller, and get a good amount of repeat buyers, and I wouldn't be concerned about contaminated MOs from them; neither would I think they would expect a contaminated package from me.
I also buy, and have a few trusted sellers that I buy from. And there is a mutual trust there also.
A great way to eliminate this fear is to look at a buyer's or seller's feedback when transacting. If there feedback is established, then it should be reassuring that it is safe to transact with them. I realize there are newbies everyday who haven't established feedback yet; which is this situation is very unfortunate for them.
This thought has crossed my mind also, more than once; and I think we just need to be more cautious right now. Looking at feedback is one precautionary tool we have on our side...

Yes. I think you are being a bit paranoid. With that sort of thinking, you should be afraid to start your car since there is always the possibility it may be wired with a bomb or even go grocery shopping or out of the house for that matter. Hardly think that terrorists are logging into e-Bay and bidding. Too much high profile stuff out there for competition.

I always ck. feed back.. That is why I was a little concerned about the FL. buyer. This person has been regestered with ebay, almost two years, and has just started to buy from ebay.At this time ..Three feed backs, all on auctions that closed one day apart. Also ckd.what they were bidding on at this time and what they bought from the other auctions..it did raise my eyebrow a little. As I said before....PARANOID....

Well, someone at NBC News got an envelope with a white powder, and she tested POS for Anthrax.

I doubt that we, as sellers, are at much risk, though.

Hmmm, let's see.
Now some people can't get credit card payments if they have a PP personal account.
Some are concerned about taking checks or money orders because of the anthrax scare.
Some won't take BillPoint because it's the Spawn of the Devil.
Some probably wouldn't accept a box filled with gold bullion because John Ashcroft has said to "beware of suspicious packages".
Seems the choices are getting pretty slim out there, folks.
Off to build a bunker around my feedback.

phawthorne1 - I have had buyers also on some of my auctions that have been registered for several years and just recently started buying. Could be that they may feel safer right now shopping on the internet rather than going to a crowded mall...
eventer - make sure you let eBay know where you bunker is!
With all the craziness going on around us, some fear is justified. One thing that could make you a liitle more comfortable as a seller is add a note in your end of auction notices requesting that buyers remitting payment via mail have their return addresses on the envelopes, along with the auction number(s). Seems like return address should be a no-brainer, but I have received payments with no return address. Also, reassure your buyers that all packages you send out will have the auction # on it, along with your return address.
I will start getting nervous when Abdul Mohammad bin Mohammed (0) plus sunshades starts bidding on my auctions....
edited to add - according to the CDC, Anthrax is not contagious

NO! I am not the least bit concerned about anything that arrives in the mail. Get real! Why should I? The letter to NBC was addressed to Dan Rather and the one to the N.Y. Times was to a well known reporter who wrote about bio-terrorison. Statistically speaking, I am far more in danger of being shot while driving the freeways here or driving by numerous closeby neighborhoods and I never worry about that.

Maybe these people who are suddenly buying are doing so because the bidding is so rotten these days that they are finally getting real bargains. Wish I could start getting some m/o s. I would love to open those envelopes instead of just the ones with bills and junk mail.

You're not alone, I, too, had the same thought last week. Had an envelope come in, almost waited till I got to the bank to open it... to handle the contents as little as possible!
Makes me just a shade leery of any great BINs I'd run across... just the kind of transaction you'd run across from a newbie seller, with little or no feedback!
