I can find two sellers (two different states) that will only accept online payments from buyers in Florida because of the scare. WoW!

PIMP!
I'm in Florida ~ the city right next to Boca Raton, actually.
I really feel like bidding today, too.
Anyone feel like letting me in on the seller ID's?

Just do a search--title and description--for anthrax florida. Disregard the gas mask stuff unless you want to read the scare tactics in those auctions. You will find the other sellers who only accept the online payments from Florida.

I know it has been said numerous times in this thread, but PLEASE PEOPLE do not give into this hysteria. I realize people(myself included) are very alarmed and concerned with events unfolding in this country and want to discuss it. That is fine because it does help to talk about it, but the very fact that we are seeing threads like this being posted is exactly what these freakin barbarians want!!!!! The anthrax making its way across this country is probably 1% physically harmful and 99% psychologically harmful to the whole country. To stop taking MO's and checks will be EXACTLY the kind of behavior and paranoia these terrorists want us to give into.
A message to Bin Laden, his networks and anyone else who wishes to cast evil deeds upon the country that defeatd Nazi Germany, contained and toppled the Soviet Union:
YOU WILL NOT AND I REAPEAT WILL NEVER DESTROY FREEDOM, INDEPENDANCE AND THE CAPITALIST FREE ENTERPRISE SYSTEM.

As someone who lives in South Florida, this really burns my butt. How silly can these sellers be? Look at this TOS, this REALLY ticked me off.
"Shipping on these items will be 5.00 anywhere in the US except Florida, (due to the recent outbreak of anthrax in Florida I do not wish to receive any mail from Florida, If you wish to Paypal that is the only way I will sell to Florida, just being cautious... not to mention you Florida folks really botched the Presidental Election) I also do not ship to the Middle East"
SHEESH! This MUST be against Ebay's rules somewhere? Or maybe not?

I don't blame sellers for not accepting payments from Florida because of the anthrax problem.
I mean, seriously.... Who would want to take that .00000000000000000000000002739% chance that you might receive a tainted letter?
Oh, I gotta go... There's a lightning storm brewing outside. Time for me to go fly my new mylar kite.

Although I pretty much knew what Ebay would say, I thought I'd write to them just to see. Of course...the TOS is within limits. See below:
Hello,
Thank you for writing eBay.
I have reviewed the information that you have provided. The TOS for this
sellers' auctions are within our guidelines. We do allow members to
state where they will ship to and the comments would not be in violation
of our policies.
I understand that you may disagree with eBay's decision to maintain this
policy. If you would like to see a policy change, you may want to
submit your feelings at the following URL:
http://pages.ebay.com/community/suggestion/
We value your membership in our community and your feedback is
important. Although you may not see the policy change as a result of
your email, the appropriate personnel will be made aware of your
position on this issue.
We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this matter, and
wish you continued success on eBay.
Regards,
Antonia

I guess now we'll see who is intelligent and who is mentally challenged.
The mentally challenged person is the one who is paranoid. The person who goes to the army surplus store and spends hundreds on survivalist toys. The person will lock him or herself in their house and stop opening any mail. You will see it in the person's auction TOS, if they have the guts to even list and auction. They would have to leave the house to go to the post office.
The intelligent person will see this for what it really is. A scare tactic on the part of a few sick individuals. This person will live their life as normal, although some caution and alertness is probably prudent.

I WORK at the PO. Supposedly the infected letters came through the USPS, I guess I should be paranoid too? Actually , I've always wondered where those nasty flu bugs came from. I'd like to see a lot more info on these before I go nuts. I personally think it could easily be copycats and other crazies

So far, the "targets" of the anthrax nut have been the media and a Microsoft subsidiary
No one's been picking names out of a phone book (or from an eBay seller's list).
Trust me, I have a LOT more to be concerned about at my "day job" than anyone here -- and I'm not the least bit worried.

My concern has already been voiced by another poster in this thread. My concern is not whether I will get an Anthrax tainted letter. If that happens I will deal with it. I am not scared at all of terrorists, or these Anthrax letter idiots, whoever they may be!
My concern is that the buyers will become paranoid and stop bidding. This would be a bad thing and I am MUCH more concerned about that than I am Anthrax.
The state of the economy and my finances concerns me much more than the threat of terrorism.

I don't mean to be rude, but reading some of the posts tells me the terrorists are accomplishing what they want to do - incite fear. The best way to avoid situations is to be aware and knowledgeable. Learn what you can about the virus, how it can be transmitted (and it is not contagious person to person), what to do if you suspect something, etc. etc. Frankly speaking there is not a lot we can do about most (if any) of the retaliatory threats, but we can be as knowledgable as possible and that is important in fighting back. Once you know what to expect and what you can do to combat it, fear can take a backseat and logic and common sense can take over.
Fear is a powerful emotion and fear of the unknown is horrific.
