Meya, to go to DOS, I have gone to Start Shut Down, and changed it to Restart in MS-DOS mode.
I haven't uninstalled any of my browsers; I just installed Netscape 6.1.
I'm sure you're exactly right about the files and just upgrading, but I have another dumb question: If I totally uninstall my browser(s), then how do I re-d/l one?

Instead of rebooting in MS-DOS mode did you try booting in DOS from a Windows startup diskette in the A: drive to delete the index.dat file?
If you're up to trying a new browser you can try Mozilla 0.9.5.
Version 6.1 of Netscape was based on Mozilla 0.9.2. It's the same as in Netscape 6.xx but more stable with less bugs. It's an open code browser and the gurus writing it release more fixes and updates than Netscape. If it sounds interesting, it's at

To download it

Anyone here using Opera? I don't have the current one, but I believe it's free as well.
No one here has mentioned Password corruption and if the browsers store any of that information?? I know there are password files on the systems, but don't know off hand if they are used with online sites that we access with passwords.
