I doubt that "to self-insure" even has any legal meaning.

Let me say it again. POSTAL INSURANCE is a waste of money. Unless the item is expensive.

The post office is the one who has a nice scam going. They should be responsible for delivering the item safely. It is their job for heavens sake. If the item is lost or damaged from the time the item leaves the sellers hands till it arrives at the buyers home, they should reemburse and we shouldn't have to pay them one dime extra for it!
