I think all my respected co-posters have missed the point entirely.
The cat did not just get shoes. The cat got vintage go-go boots and (here's the heartrending tragedy) a copy of The Secret Pearl by Mary Balogh.
If we were talking Amanda Quick or Jane Feather, I would not be concerned at all. If this were a recent MB, say "Slightly Married" or even "Thief of Dreams" it would not be such a tragedy. But this is going to be tough to replace.
shop4shoes, I wish I could help you out. I'm sure you've already thought of this but local used bookstores will hold stuff for you if you're alright with a "reader" copy. I rarely see collector-worthy condition in those shops, though.
