I may be going out on a limb here, having never used AD, but I would be willing to bet that if I did there would be part of the agreement fine print that they are not responsible for.., .., and ... etc.
Sure, they could have a top-knotch team of savvy professionals. More realistically, they probably just have everyday people to take photos, write descriptions, etc. They must surely even use a fill-in-the blank template to make sure pertinent information isn't missed. That's what made the lack of maker's name in the title is such an alert -they just HAPPENED to miss it on the one auction with dubious merchandise?
I guess it would be more profitable to spend some time with the diamond etcher and a box of rummage sale glassware than debating this.

dropping the ball again, and puttin' it back in my court ... i sent Ques. to Seller on nice framed lady paintings they have up right now, and asked them, "what surface do you think the subjects are painted on; canvas? wood? porcelain? paper?" ...
LOL; they sure wash their hands of the matter with this reply...
"Thank you for your email and interest in this item. AuctionDrop is an
online consignment store and unfortunately the previous owner did not
provide us with this information. If you have any further questions that I
can help you with by reviewing the item for you, please let me know and I
will be more than happy to do so."
I guess she won't even give me an 'educated guess' ...

People need to know there's a huge disconnect between what they promise their consignors and what they deliver.
