I haven't had the heart to go diving, since i lost my big van- putting just a few things in the trunk of a mitsubishi isn't as much fun!
When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple
with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.

Forget the dumpsters. Do like my mom did and head straight to the city dump. She used to spend hours, sorting though junk and believe me, it was not pretty. I remember seeing huge tables just stacked with clothing and linens and lord knows what. It was similar to what I would picture a thrift store outlet looking like, before they bring it all out on the floor.
Everything was just sitting in the dirt and separated only by size of "thing" and material it was made out of. All metal junk here, plastic junk there and fabric in the tent. She really had to work to find the goodies, but they were there.
One of the strangest things I remember was the big supply of day old grocery store items they would have. Frozen pies, TV dinners, full cases of Abba Zabba bars (yes, I am that old) and none of it was spoiled, just not brand new, maybe bent boxes or whatever. All free.
