Yes, Jack, it's been very quiet! I know that it's so hot here that I can't spend much time in my office on the computer during the day. It's on the second floor of an OLD house with no air conditioning. The houses are so close together that I don't get any breezes. I tried using a fan, but there's so much paper and crap in here that it just blows all over the place creating an even bigger mess.
Up here in the NE, we have to enjoy summer while we have it. A typical summer will have about 8 days of 90+ degree weather. We've had 16 so far. I know that doesn't sound like much to those in places like Texas, but most people here don't have air conditioning because it's not normally needed. Even hurricane Dennis pretty much left us alone along Lake Erie. We got two days of on and off sprinkles. It's called a lake effect drought!

I really feel for you who have to suffer from the heat. I lived in Iowa. SD &MN for over half of my life. Now I live in the most wonderful climate on earth. The Central Coast of CA. Today was a typical day, the high was 72 & last nite the low was 52. Almost every night I sleep with a blanket. I usually have my 2nd cup of coffee out on the porch while I read the morning paper. Where could find it any better?

Just in case anyone hasn't figured it out yet, all the potential bidders are out on their patios barbequing ribs and drinking beer. It's so hot here, that I'm staying inside under the air conditioner and listing auctions. For stuff that won't sell. Because all the bidders are out on the patio.....

The last few days have been high 90s here in the mountains at 6,000 feet. Today was a teeny bit cooler but it's now cooling off beautifully for night sleeping. I'm a real slug at 95 degrees, just sit around and watch TV, no energy to take pix and list. Please, God, give us some rain!

Roadsmith...You're better off where you are than you would be at the bottom of the hill where it's 116. As for the rain, don't spend all your time looking out the front door toward the Pacific looking for a sprinkle or two. You might want to peek out the back door once in a while. Emily is scheduled to hit the east coast of Mexico during the night as a cat 3 or possibly 4 hurricane. The remnants could hit Southern California by this weekend. You may not have to water your lawn for a week or so

Its hot here in Kentucky too even though we had rain off and on all day. My central air has been running a lot today. I'm just glad it doesn't run up my electric bill over $35.00 in the summer.

"You may not have to water your lawn for a week or so"
LOL, Sparkz. We have no lawn! We have pine forest and manzanita, hallelujah. We gave away ALL our lawn equipment when we moved here and vowed never to do the lawn thing again in our lives. But I do water a few little things like day lilies that I'm trying to grow.
It's much cooler here tonight, maybe 10 degrees cooler, and yes we're looking forward to Emily sending us some rain.

Yes, it's a strange turn of events when everyone in Florida is chanting " Thank God Emily missed us" And everyone in California is chanting " Bring it on !! ", and the folks in Brownsville, Texas are chanting " Oh S**T !!!". Here in California, especially in the middle of July, we'll take precipitation wherever we can find it.

I MISS CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING!!!! Over 92 degrees again today - I love my old Victorian, but I miss central air - we have a few window units that are running nonstop, but the 2nd and 3rd floors are hot as heck.

Where we live in Ont. Canada, it's been in the 90's for almost 6 weeks, apart from a few days, with humidity, over 99 degrees. For those of us without air conditioning, it's getting a bit much. With long cold winters most of us can't wait for summer, now we are waiting for it to cool off. June was the hottest since 1918, and I think July is going to beat it. I think everyone must be on vacation, they are certainly not looking at my auctions, 11 closed in the last 2 days with 4 bids.

Cheryl, your office is:
"It's on the second floor of an OLD house with no air conditioning."
so is mine 150 year old farm house no air period in the summer and no heat save "hot air rises!" yeah right!!!! in the winter. I moved the piles of uh Hum stuff! so I could point at fan at me... yes its all about me!
It was 92 degrees here yesterday and 75 percent humidity you could barely breath... Sanmar I type .. I am clean (save the office)... an fairly affible .. do you need a roommate? Actually I think you need to build a bunk house out back for all of us... a summer retreat.. The money you don't take in on ebay in the summer can be made up by the bunk house gang..... we will need DSL or broadband hook ups!

$35.00????? I turn on my lights and my bill is more than that!! How in the world can you have central air and a bill that low?? Here in Arkansas, our last bill was over $200 and we have a very small house that is well insulated!

I live in a new apartment that was built in a large metal building that was used as a garage to fix big trucks. They put a lot of insulation in it. There are now two apartments here. Ours in a single floor, and the other one is two story. We pay $350.00 rent which is a litlle high for this area but the light bill is very low.

$350 rent is a real bargain! Here that would get you a one bedroom in the slums. My two bedroom I had before I moved into this house five years ago was $600/mo. They are closer to $700/mo now. Of course, it was a large apartment with one and 1/2 baths. But, with two teenagers I needed that 1/2 bath.

It's a five shower day here in SC -- heat index probably 110 with moderate humidity. We've had so much rain, it's tropical out there, and the lawn needs to be mowed twice a week before it gets waist high. First year I've even had a lawn here; usually it's brown and I mow the dust.
Couldn't do it without central air. Just spent the week end at an outdoor show in Burlington, KY (almost to OH), and thought that was even hotter than here (believe I made the point of shows vs. eBay in another post). Clammy, nasty. At least when it's this hot, one can doodle on the computer, fix and clean, and get listings ready. I don't know that they're all out barbecuing either -- many boards seem active, and bidding/watching have been pretty good this week.
Even with central air (3 bedroom, 1400 sq ft. -- virtually no insulation), my electric bill is rarely over $100 and that's in summer. Those showers are what adds it up.

Here in Philadelphia area it's been very hot & humid too but normal for this time of year. We have central air and I freeze inside so I keep going outside to warm up! LOL How did we ever survive back in the olden days (1950's) but I guess we didn't know any better.
I was shopping for some fall clothes on the internet just yesterday. Cooler weather will be here before we know it, heck Christmas is only like 5 months away! LOL

$350 rent. OMG. If it weren't for the kids, I think my wife and I would retire and live without working for the next, oh, 600 years
I'm in the suburbs, so parking is in the driveway, but my sister lives in NYC, and (if it weren't free because she works for the attorney that manages the building) would pay $350 for her parking spot.

Roadsmith...Have you got any rain yet? There's a 20% chance you'll get doused, with a little thunder and lightning mixed in, tonight. Stay on the hilltop. There's been flash flood warnings all around you on the floor. This is just a preview. Wait till Emily gets here this weekend BTW, before the wet weather hits, post a sign in your yard with a big arrow pointing toward the Valley. We don't want it to get lost and wind up in Sanmar's back yard where it won't get the welcome it deserves.

Jack..Keep your truck parked in the driveway tonight. You might be able to dodge the carwash this week and save a couple bucks. NWS is seeing rain in your neighborhood in their crystal ball. In fact, radar and satellite is showing the possibility of precip all the way up the coast to Paso Robles. This is just minor monsoon moisture coming up from Mexico. If everything holds together, we'll see some real fireworks later on towards the weekend.

Sparkz, nope! No rain yet. It's been quite humid and somewhat overcast the last two days but at least a bit cooler. We're looking with envy at the rain Big Bear got today.
Latest I saw on TV is that our normal monsoonal stuff will mix it up with Emily's moisture and give us some good rain. God knows we need it. Looking like the best chance is Saturday now.
I'll be most happy to point Emily to the Valley. It's the least we can do for friends.

It's kind of ironic. I know that glassgrl, ltray, tom and ralphie, ladyjewells and bizzy don't want any part of Emily, yet there are many of us here in California waiting to roll out the red carpet for her. Kind of like selling on Ebay, one person's trash is another person's treasure.

Never even considered Emily making it to the panhandle, she was too far south.
I'm back in KY with my Dad and I swear it is hotter here than in Florida.
And for those of you looking for cheap rent, have I got a deal for you!
I'll be listing one of Dad's farms this week.
65 acres of rolling hills with a 60 x 40 ft aluminum building on concrete slab. City water, 10 miles off of a major east/west KY 4 lane, 20 miles from I-24 running from St. Louis to Nashville. 1.5 hrs to Nashville. Only $130K. Any takers??
Oh, and MAH, Dad's light bill is never over $40 on a 2100 sq ft house, but then he does live alone
