Leaving a neutral in this case was probably okay, but what about the negative I got for using packing peanuts: "Too much illegal and not enviormentally [sic] friendly packing. Way too much!!!!!!!!!!"
Made it sound like I was packing with cocaine or something
To finish the story: my then partner contacted him to see what the problem was and to see what we could do to improved the situation. The buyer contacted his local sheriff saying that we had invaded his privacy, were harassing him, and threatening his family. Sheeesh!

I dont think leaving a neutral was okay. (Certainly dont think your neg was ok either,Claude)
But next thing ya know buyers will be leaving negs/neuts for ..item arrived undamaged, but seller used small bubble and I felt it should have been large-bubbled wrapped, OR, Item arrived in good condition and timely manner, but seller used scotch tape instead of packing tape and that is illegal...
Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I dont think the USPS is hurting in revenue. Thought I read somewhere they are one branch of the fed govt actually turning a profit?
If I was the buyer and that really bothered me, think I would have not left feedback at all and maybe emailed the seller and spoke my peace about it. I am sure that would give them just as much pause for thought next time as dinging them in their feedback. If you item arrived damaged, I could understand your complaint, but since it didnt..I dont see where this seller failed you on the transaction.

Below said it best
grantg, who made you the USPS cop?
Seller didn't deserve a neutral....you got the book you wanted ..you weren't overcharged or cheated in any way, were you?
This is between the seller and the Post Office..not you.

Oh, I recognize this.
This is the "It's wrong to be judgmental" remark.
This is the "There is no right or wrong, so who are you to say?" comment.
This is the "Since there is no right or wrong, how can any behavior be unacceptable" mindset.
Well, I bloody well think it's past time to be judgmental when you see something that is plainly wrong.
Shout `netcop' all you like. I expect it and it won't deter me from doing what *I* think is right.

Fluffy,
I just got my copy; I couldn't get to it until after Thanksgiving. I was hoping it wasn't a disappointment after Eats, Shoots, and Leaves, but you apparently enjoyed it

Fluffy: I've heard good things about that book. I'll wait until it's out in paperback.

Simple solution to this connundrum. Use UPS free stuff to ship USPS media mail. The USPS loves to see this as these supplies are from their competitors. Get the plastic UPS envelopes to wrap the book in and the flat rate cardboard envelopes fit great inside plain brown mailing envelopes. I happen to hate UPS as a carrier so this gives me great pleasure to do what I can to affect their bottom line.
Also, I have found lately that putting regular postage stamps on Media mail gets the package there the same as first class. Just stamp it, write media mail on the package and give it to the carrier.

I thought the USPS started putting "USPS" all over the inside of their boxes/envelopes, so people couldn't use them inside out. Isn't that the easy answer to the abuse? Or is that too easy for the PO?

More expensive - double printing.

If it makes y'all feel any better I just received a bit (for my horse) in the mail via UPS delivery packaged in a USPS Video box.
Not inside out, not even covered up. Just slapped the UPS manifest right on top.
And this is from a reputable online tack shop, not an ebay seller by any stretch of the imagination.

For most of my Media Mail I use cardboard lids from the grocery store, Hubby makes all our boxes. But I do have to buy bubble mailers for first class. I get all my peanuts and bubble wrap from other businesses. Some people view misusing USPS Priority supplies as they do throwing trash out on the highway,it doesn't matter how it affects anyone,it please them. Thats the ME generation for ya.

You can buy Priority Mail tape? I would love to have it again. It is so much easier than putting those little stickers on all sides of the boxes.

I recycle Priority boxes. I'm most certainly not going to just toss them away. I recycle everything. Personally I don't use new ones to send any other way but Priority. However, it's not up to me to police what other sellers do. That's up to the PO. With a new hike in the rates coming up, I don't see where they're hurting for money. People need to spend more time worrying about what they're doing and less time worry about what others are doing.
