Moonmem! Finally, another disco fan! I thought I was the only one left! Late 60's and 70's - the best!
Lou - Ok, you're not going to like this, but I don't think "rap" is really music. Oh calm down everyone! Sorry Lou - that's just me. I think rap is nothing but a bunch of guys on a HUGE ego trip. BUT I do like that catchy song by Shaggy about how he got busted doing it all over the house with the girl next door. Does that redeem me? (Lou Baby, don't hate me!)

Hehe, I like all sorts...of course, you all are going to laugh, but I love disco too. Yes, I was born in the 70's...yes I was...with only a month and a few days to spare. But, listening to ABBA really takes me back. I can hear "Dancing Queen" playing in my head right now!
And I really like Moby...well, as you can see, my tastes are all over the place.

My favorite, Big Band & most of the classical music. Also like ballad singers, Elvis presley & lots of the fifties music.
Lou Rap is not music, it's a lot of noise for people who can't sing.

I love it all. I am a teen of the 70s', but I also really like most 60s' music, I can get into 80s' style and have teenagers into 90s' and now I guess we are into the naughties ...
I find that it depends on how the mood swing takes me, but I can sing and dance around this old house to just about anything, so long as it has a bit of rhythm and bounce.
Sorry but somehow I can't see me ever getting into RAP

LouGo to napster & download Rose Room by Artie Shaw if you want to hear some good music. You might even like Bobby Darin, try listening to him too!!! And then there's the best instrumental ever..In the Mood by Glen Miller.
Did you watch the Grammys last night?

I like new age, soft rock, alternative, celtic, easy listening, and some classicals.
I have no interest for:
country, disco, ballroom music, operas (to me, they sound like they were squealing), polkas, R&B, punk, ganster rap, or 'kill your wife' music.

I love Gospel/Christian music.
My favorites are The Gaithers, Al Denson, Steven Curtis Chapman, Carman, Steve Green & Michael Card. The "Wow Worship" Cd's were recently added to my collection and I love them too!
There are so many great Christian songs out there...it's really hard to choose just a few.

Reggae
Contemporary Hawaiian (the good stuff that plays on local radio, not the twangy slack key that everyone associates with Hawaiian music)
And a mixed bag of other styles from Barbra Streisand (forcing the kids to watch A Star Is Born tonight - got it on eBay of course - because they had to sit through part of her television concert while I took a trip back in time, and they need to see that she actually can be 'cool') to Whitney Houston to Rod Stewart to Billy Joel to Hootie and the Blowfish to Gloria Estefan to the latest CD I'm listening to right now... O'Town. Yes, those are the guys from the TV show, Making The Band. And I know I'll probably get razzed for liking them but I can't help it... their CD actually has some good songs on it... my fav on it is 'The Painter'.
Of course you can dance to hip-hop. What do you think folks are doing on MTV and BET videos? Or perhaps you have never been inside a night club and heard the DJ's play list and seen all of the bodies moving on the dance floor?
Face it. Hip-hop is the dominant music form, has been for nearly a decade. It's one of the most refreshing and indelible parts of pop culture and has sway in the areas of advertisement, mass marketing and the like.

Love the Blues!! It is "get naughty" music. Yep Therp, Claptin is one of the best!
Sex Pistols. I love when they did My Way, the Frank Sinatra remake. In high school I shaved my head and wore safety pins in my ears. Very attractive. Still enjoy good punk rock.
Country music makes my ears bleed!!
I will second Snoweygret, Bob is King. Reggae always makes me want to dance. Next is UB40.
Digable Planets?? I have not thought of them in ages!! I think I may go pull out their cd!!
Smash Mouth. I love the song Walking on the Sun. How can one NOT dance when they hear that one?
When I take a bath, not the get clean kind of bath, but the candles and incense kind, I love Maria Callas.
Throw in some R.E.S.P.E.C.T. by Aretha AND Waltzing Mathilda by Rod Stewart AND Sweet Jane by the Velvet Underground (well, anything by Lou Reed) and I am one happy chick!

Lou that is just ridiculous, you are kidding... or just retaliating, right? No one could possibly think that classical ISN'T MUSIC (ROF) or that it doesn't sell anymore, just because they don't like it!! Better do your music homework before you say something like that.

XARDON: Sorry so long to reply to your offer on the mix tapes. I'm overflowing with thousands of LP's & CD's without room for new editions. Thank you for the offer though. Great taste in music, very diverse! Ditto to CMBTBOOTS & NYCROCKER! It is my opinion that the Beach Boy's 'Pet Sounds' is one of the greatest American LP's of all time, only surpassed by Dylan's 'Highway 61 Revisited'. Paul Weller & The Jam reminded me of The Who & Kinks in their infancy, exciting raw 'punk' bands with limitless energy. All Mod Con's was my favorite. The Clash, probably the best band from the punk era....the first LP, Give Em' Enough Rope & London Calling incredible classics which have withstood the test of time.
MARATHONJS is my Ebay handle as I have no reason to hide.

Nice of you to think of it as an offer, marathonjs, but auch largesse was not my intent. Merely a comment on the quality and diversity of your musical tastes.
Maybe I should use this phrase from the Animals song as a sig line:
I'm just a soul whose intentions are good, Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Well my favorite is old country-absolutely! I love Merle Haggard, Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash, etc. I'm really not into new country at all with the exception of some older Chris LeDoux stuff, Dixie Chicks and Jo Dee Messina. I know most of you have no clue what I'm talking about because most people can't stand country. But I love country and the twangier the better!
Psalms 139-When not listening to country, I like christian and gospel music. I love the WOW Cd's too.
JMHO
citygirl
I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going insane!

I also love the Tragically Hip.....every song they've written is good!

P.S. moonmem.....that Terry Jacks song was so hilarious.....did he die at the end?

You've Got Another Thing Comin'
One life I'm gonna live it up
I'm takin' flight I said i'll never get enough
Stand tall I'm young and kinda proud
I'm on top as long as the music's loud
If you think I'll sit around as the world goes by
You're thinkin' like a fool cause it's a case of do or die
Out there is a fortune waitin' to be had
You think I'll let it go you're mad
You've got another thing comin'
That's right here's where the talkin' ends
Well listen this night there'll be some action spent
Drive hard I'm callin' all the shots
I got an ace card comin' down on the rocks
If you think I'll sit around while you chip away my brain
Listen I ain't foolin' and you'd better think again
Out there is a fortune waitin' to be had
You think I'll let it go you're mad
You got another thing comin
In this world we're livin' in we have our share of sorrow
Answer now is don't give in aim for a new tomorrow
Oh so hot no time to take a rest yeah
Act tough ain't room for second best
Real strong got me some security
Hey I'm a big smash I'm goin' for infinity yeah
If you think I'll sit around as the world goes by
You're thinkin' like a fool cause it's a case of do or die
Out there is a fortune waitin' to be had
You think I'll let it go you're mad
You've got another thing comin'

Surrender
Mother told me, yes, she told me I'd meet girls like you.
She also told me, "Stay away, you'll never know what you'll catch."
Just the other day I heard a soldier falling off some Indonesian junk that's going round.
Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.
Father says, "Your mother's right, she's really up on things."
"Before we married, Mommy served in the WACS in the Philippines."
Now, I had heard the WACS recruited old maids for the war.
But mommy isn't one of those, I've known her all these years.
Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.
Whatever happened to all this season's losers of the year?
Ev'ry time I got to thinking, where'd they disappear?
When I woke up, Mom and Dad are rolling on the couch.
Rolling numbers, rock and rolling, got my Kiss records out.
Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.
