I finally upgraded my computer. My printer and scanner don't fit anymore. I am looking to buy one of those all in one things. The kind that prints, faxes, scans. Does anyone have any feedback they can give me as too which is the best/worst or if a combo machine is worth spending the money?

There are 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 models now, depending on what functionality you want.
We shopped for these a couple of weeks ago with my mother-in-law and ultimately decided not to buy one for us OR for her.
"Scanner" doesn't mean flatbed scanner.
"Printer" doesn't mean it will print on everything you may need to print on. Adhesive labels, for example.
My flatbed scanner already makes copies just as quickly as these things do, I don't need a printer and I have a fax machine, so we didn't buy.

Fluff; My HP has a flat bed scanner, which I never use. I like having a printer/fax together as I have limited space to work in. I print adhesive labels all of the time. This is not a $69.00 cheapo. This is a quality 4 in 1 unit.

I bought an incredibly cheap HP 1315. I didn't need any of the other features besides the printer but got it because the price was right. It really is a decent printer but like all HPs I have ever owned, kind of touchy when there is a need to cancel printing. I have had to turn off pc , turn off the power to the printer and reboot in order to get the document to delete. They call it an "all in one" but I don't see a fax on it. Like Fluff, I dont need the scanner ( a flatbed one) but found it works ok in a pinch. It's handy to have a copy machine around! Photo printing is great (comes with picture bridge)!
EDITED TO ADD: Target sells for under $100

Last year I bought a new Canon Multipass 700, with scanner bed, fax and printing all in one. Large in size, but it does the job well.
The cost of ink had gotten out of hand on the old printer. This one, with it's lower priced ink bought right on eBay, has paid for itself in the last year.
I love it!
Pat
Edited to add:
This unit also has that small slot for inserting a camera chip right into it. I'm still using my old Sony Mavica FD71 with a 3 1/2" floppy disc, so haven't had the opportunity to try the smaller disc in the printer.
Photos printed on photo paper sure come out nice, too!

Epson Stylus Photo RX600. Great scanner and 6 ink colors. Very nice photo prints, good text. Pricey ink, I rigged it with a bulk tank setup. No problems at all in over a year. I think the newest one is a RX700 or something. Under 200 bucks.Look for rebates. I got mine for 80 total after rebates.

these combo devices are fine if you are not a frequent user, say you print a lot, then you are better off getting a printer which does nothing but print .
Same can be said with scanning or faxing or copying.
you can buy inkcartridge at Overstock.com cheap and good.

Here i sit at my new computer. Between the flat panel and the cpu is the printer and infront of the printer is the old fax black/white officejet 1.X machine I have that a neighbor gave me. It's huge for me. I am finding that I do need to fax once in awhile now. Printing and scanning I do alot too. I just don't have the space for 3 machines. I was thinking of buying one online or maybe on ebay. This is going to be tough. I am planning how to spend my tax return that I haven't even filed yet (grin)

I bought a Lexmark X74-75 which is a flat bed 4 n 1. which does printing, scanning, copying, faxing.
I bought this in 2003 for $99.99 and I use it alot for printing postage. Scanning I find works real good and quick, copying works good also, faxing I used only once since I bought a Panasonic phone, fax & copy.
The ink for the Lexmark is about 32.00 for color and 29.00 for b/w, I bought my daughter the same so if I have a problem I could just hook hers up quickly but in all the years I have it I never had a problem........I bought it at Gateway since they had the best price at the time.
Just giving you my input on whats been working very good for me.

" mine doesn't print to CD's afaik, but I've never tried it...my CD printer is a Sharpie..."
damnit Profe-you had me going for a few minutes.I thought Sharpie was a brand name cd printer, since you had a smiley face after your statement,I assumed you liked the printing quality. So what does "classic" do? I look on Ebay to see if they have any of these for sale.
I put in "Sharpie cd printer" in the search mode, and as you can guess I came up with nothing. So I type in Sharpie.com to see if they have a website, and by golly they do.However its for one of those ink pens you write on cds and dvds.I cant tell you here what I was saying about you,but did you feel your ears burning??
Its not nice to fool an old man.....God will getcha for that...

I bought a HP 1210 3 in 1 about three years ago, paid 70.00 (it had a 30.00 rebate)
Prints great, copies great, never used the scanner. Ink seems to last forever compared to the Lexmark I used to have & the cartridge is a lot cheaper too.
I love it & bought each of my sons one for Christmas.

Sorry classic
It does take a pretty high end color laser printer to do pics as well as almost any cheap inkjet.
For text only, you can't beat a B/W laser printer though. Toner cartridges last forever it seems like.

I guess that was my point Profe.I remember you telling me that.Who needs perfect black and white printing?? With all the digital cameras and camcorders you can hook up to your computer, people print the own color pics now.
I just dont see much use for just a black and white printer....then again thats probably me LOL

I recently got a new tower, an HP Compaq Presario SR1710NX with 1G of ram added. At the same time I purchased an HP 2355xi AIO that was steeply discounted to $70 by the retailer, due to a damaged box. So far, so good.
I usually use fatwallet (http://www.fatwallet.com/) or slickdeals (http://www.slickdeals.net/ to find the current best deals on such items. I had already purchased another AIO that had a rebate, but this 'open box' deal was great and had no rebate to contend with. Easy return, too.
Ohh, and after the rebates, the tower with the added memory comes to about $230.00 out the door.

Consumer's Report actually proved it costs MORE to print your own photos than to take them to a photo shop.
So black and white is fine for me - I just appreciate not having to endlessly fill those ink cartridges.

Consumer reports is right, it does cost more to make your own prints, unless you're printing thousands of them. The reason I like a good inkjet for color photos isn't for the finished prints. I usually send those up to mpix.com for enlargements. With the printer, I like to make proof sheets with 2 or three variations on a single photo edit so I can compare them printed rather than just looking at them on a monitor. For text, if it's something I care about, like a report or grant or something, I'll usually send it over to my work machine and print it on the Xerox laser printer. Much better text than my Epson AIO, which excels at photos and scans.
