Do you consider yourself to be an expert in anything? I know a little about a lot of things. Enough to be dangerous, I guess. But the field I've been in for 22 years is estate planning and estate administration, i.e. Wills, Trusts, Probate, etc. It wasn't intentional; just the direction my life took.

VeryModern is an expert! Go check out her web site!!
Me, I would not say exactly "expert", but I would say I play a mean rock guitar solo and do sing my @$$ off and write some damn good songs.
I was taught not to take credit for anything when I was little, so I do try to take credit now if I do feel I've done something well. C'mon everyone, don't be shy. This is a nice thread!
posted on February 24, 2001 08:29:16 PM newRocker I'm curious as to who you sound the most like in the rock industry? I mean are you more Janis Joplin or Stevie Nicks?????
I don't consider myself at expert at anything. I guess my talents are in painting figurines that look realistic - especially the eyes. And I've developed some really awesome dyeing techniques that other dyers have tried to duplicate - but they can't figure out how I do it. (nanabooboo to them, LOL)

I'm an expert on not letting people know how much I know. Especially men. That way, they do it for poor helpless me.

Well, I am not gonna say I am an "expert", but I have been in the Real Estate industry for 14 years. I know alot about what I do, but with ever-changing laws, I am still learning
posted on February 24, 2001 10:25:04 PM new MyBiddness Between the two, definitely closer to Joplin than Nicks - I don't have a "pretty" voice at all, it's more of a rough sounding voice, and there were times in LIVE shows (NOT in the recording studio), some people have told me I sound like Janis. (I WISH.) (I NEVER seem to be able to capture that live raw sound in the studio. That's what I don't like about the studio, it ALWAYS comes out sounding more "tame" and polished, no matter what.) Anyway, it was a huge compliment to me because I am such a Joplin fan, but I will tell you, in my opinion, no I do not sound like Joplin (I should be so lucky), NO ONE sounds like Joplin and there will never be another Joplin. You could hear the pain in her voice, she was in so much despair, it seeped through her every pore, through every note she sang. And I also disagree with the popular opinion that Melissa Etheridge sounds like Joplin. Melissa has not known that kind of pain. I don't hear that in her at all. Yes she is good at what she does. But she ain't Janis and I don't think there will ever be another. AND they don't build rock bands the way they used to. (They just "build" them now.) And don't get me started, I will get off my soap box now, thank you.
So MyBid who do you prefer? Nicks or Joplin? Oh ya know who people compare me to the most? Debbie Harry (who I ADORE) and Joan Jett (I must admit we sound alike although I do not like her Sam I Am but that is for personal not musical reasons.) I am very influenced by Blondie so I believe you can hear a lot of that in my songs. Hey why don't I send you a CD and YOU tell ME what I sound like?? Email me... [email protected]

posted on February 24, 2001 10:49:51 PM new Rocker I hate to admit it now... since you went on and on and on about Joplin but to be honest, I'm a bigger fan of Stevie Nicks than I am of Joplin. I like Joplin - but if I had to choose... I've never thought Etheridge sounded like Joplin though... no way. I'm not very good about remembering the names of artist. If I hear a song I like then I know I like it but I don't usually put a name with it. Lately, I'm stuck on replaying Don Henley's Fair Park concert OVER AND OVER! His voice doesn't send me one way or the other - but I love the music - especially "All she wants to do is dance." Makes me dance!
I'd love to order a c.d. Why didn't I think of that? DUH! I'll email ya in a few secs.

I don't think I am an expert in any one field. I am a mother, nurse, doctor, physiologist, budget consultant, chauffeur and romance counciler, just to name a few.
My best gift I think is in Office managment, Phone Sales and general P.R. work. I am good at all of these things, but I have been doing it for a long time now and am well practised. So I don't know if I am expert or not.....

I am expert on creative household financing (read: bill juggling). Fortunately, I no longer have to tap those skills, but damn, I'm good at it!
I would consider myself an expert at identifying what species of sea turtle laid a nest (or false-crawled on the beach) based on the visible tracks and the nest mound itself seen the morning after.
I am fast becoming an expert on home-redecorating...this is my "practice" house! I put in a wood parquet floor, a vinyl tile floor, rebuilt/retiled a kitchen counter, & did textured walls & ceilings.

I don't consider myself to be an expert in any one thing. I have lots of interests, computers, music, (I sing in some small groups at church, and manage a pretty good alto), I am fairly good at Desk Top Publishing with a good eye for balance etc. But expert? No...
I am fairly good with a sewing machine, but my eye and neurological trouble keep me from doing that as much as I would like.
My kids say I'm an expert at sarcasm, to the point where they sometimes have to ask if I'm kidding or not.(and they have grown up with me, imagine how people take me that don't know me?) Blunt and rude have also been used to describe me. It is something I work on constantly. (being less blunt that is)

By trade, I am an investment consultant (read: stock broker). I have a lot of licenses but I don't think I'm an expert (especially since I gave it up for eBay!)
can you be an expert shopper?
how about an expert sleeper?
My daddy once told me:
"The very best thing that you can do is to get Very Good at Being Yourself"
Daddy if you're up there, am I an expert yet? (I love my Daddy very much! and I miss him even more!)

edited to add: rocker: I love Janis, Stevie, Joan Jett, and Debbie Harry! Since I read that I keep hearing "won't you lay me down in the tall grass and let me do my stuff". Where did Fleetwood Mac go? No, they certainly don't grow Rockers like they used too!

Barry, you nut!
I would have to say that I'm an expert at innuendos, subtle and not so subtle wordings, and quick comebacks...when I need any of the above. They're all basically the same thing. Ask my kids. Shoot, ask Maui, lol Also singing, which I used to do professionally in my pre-kid days. I would mention something else, but I don't want to jinx it...the time will come, I hope. (Hmm, now what in the h@ll does she mean by that?)
Most importantly, I have become an expert on surviving life, not always so easy.

One thing I lament is not being really outstanding at any one thing. I'm adequate at lots of things, and good at some of them, but I don't really excel in any one area.

I am an expert in hand-tinting black and white photographs. I don't do it much anymore as the substances in the tints activate my allergies. Learning to control the color was a long process, but very satisfying once learned.
I am something of an expert at many aspects of historical clothing (identification, restoration, conservation, duplication) but I still get stumped frequently.
I am a journeyman at the art of the kimono. Intend to become an expert by the time I'm an old lady.
I am a journeyman drummer on my doumbek.
I am an expert thrift store shopper and frugality advocate.
