auction counts on ebay are down 1 million 100 thousand since Sat. I hope it hits a very low - low after Wens. which will end the 20 cent listing day items. I really do hope that the strike has an impact.People who control my life in very real ways, I believe, don't know how their decisions affect peoples lives. If this makes them stop for even 5 mins and think maybe it will do some good. Changing to search is so unfair. It should just be a time thing I think. After all everyone pays to list ..everyone should have their moment in the sun. I want an even playing field for everyone.

"Pick me! I'm a scab!"
The 100% honest truth is: I just plain cannot afford to suspend my auctions for a noble but futile gesture -- and gesture is all it's gonna end up being...
As quickly as possible, I think folks should come to understand & accept that feeBay doesn't care one whit whether or not its sellers are happy or not...
If 20 leave, 200 new ones will arrive to take their place...
The stark reality is that NOTHING WE DO AS SELLERS WILL AFFECT FEEBAY AT ALL!
There has to be a MASSIVE UPHEAVAL directed at feeBay to make a real difference such as:
(1) A company with INSTANT NAME RECOGNITION (ie: Microsoft; or GOOGLE; or WAL-MART) open a well designed AUCTION SITE...
(2) The US DEPT of JUSTICE initiates ANTI-TRUST prosecutions against feeBay...
(3) States ATTORNEY GENERALS get together and bring CONSTRAINT OF TRADE prosecutions against feeBay...
(4) THE VAST OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF EBAY SELLERS OPEN THEIR OWN NON-EBAY STORE & LEARN SEO!
Every VD'er should be FEVERISHLY working night & day on their NON-EBAY web presence!
START TODAY FOLKS!
Soon, you too could become a BIG SHOT TYCOON just like Ralphie and his EMPORIUM!
Just think? Someday you'll be able to tell yer grandchildren: "Why hell! I knew him when he was just a poor pup without a pot to pi$$ in!"

Tom I understand your point. I cannot afford this "strike" either. We count on my income to pay bills... this is not extra income this is necessary income. I listed last Wens. on the 20cent day. I am doing well enough that I can afford to not list again until Monday or Tuesday. I realize all to well that my little effort may be futile but I really do feel the need to voice my displeasure. I have been putting items on my Ruby Lane site and will continue to do so. At least there I feel respected and honored as an important part of that community. At some point MAYBE I can call ebay part of my past not my present.

I can't afford a vacation now either. I will put more time into putting together my resume and looking for a real job, one that I have some control over. We each have to do what's right for our situation.

auction counts going down!
I am now correcting this post. I completely mis-understood the new fee structure. I now support utilizing eBay even less than I did in the past.
A boycott hasn't worked in the past and won't work in the future, so the key is diversification. List your items at many venues and make your own website. That is what will effect eBay in the long run.

My auction count is half what it usually is because I ran out of jewelry last week. New shipment came in today, though, so in a few days it should be back to normal.
My income is not essential to the household but I can't just sit on my hands for a week.

My typical 40-60 items will not be there but I dont think that really matters to eBaY.
I'll spend my week getting myself going elsewhere.
What SHOULD matter to eBaY is that I just spent some of my money over at amazon.
No buying for me on eBaY this week ~ sorry guys!
I know that many of you cannot afford to stay away and I respect that. I doubt that the 'strike' will hold any weight but feel the need support the community in which I have sold for a decade. My time away will be well invested and the need to look elsewhere was long overdue. I'll be back with a new strategy on eBay ~ one that will benefit me and conssider my buyers, only giving eBaY the bucks when it is to my advantage.
Fluffy:
If you can' spend the week 'sitting on your hands', maybe you could use your incredible wit and charm to help be a voice?
I'm not sure who or where ~ your factual style catches attention and your experience comes shining through. Reality based vocals such as yours would be a bonus if anyone would be willing to listen.
I wish I could find the right words to post ONE auction this week to educate my repeat buyers about how the changes will affect them and to urge them to look for their favorite sellers at ecrater and online auctions!
I adore my buyers ~ like many of you. Quite a few have been coming back for years on BOTH of my id's.

The auction listing curve for February of 2008 is virtually identical to that of the previous five years. An upward blip in the middle of the month, and then back to about 12 million which is what the month started with. Nothing unusual about that at all.

Looking at the yearly MedVed charts, Feb is all over the place. It is nice to take an extra week off tho to organize, do paperwork and clean up my MESS of an office.
Plus I have a neighbor who hand paints tile. We are creating some tiles and templates using Pixiamom's postcards and may try to mass produce some of them. Right now it is just a super fun project with local $$ to make. It is the kindergartener in me. Paint, crayons, hmmmm

Pix, I called for 2 applications last week. They came in the mail this morning.I have to have stability in our income. We have one daughter still in college and our second is a single mother of our 2 grandchildren.I do a balancing act every month. Now that this nation IS in a recession everything I sell is an extra not a necessity. I understand fully peoples tightening of the $ belts. So I too am applying for a real job... first one in almost 30 years!
I think what bothers me most about ebays constant shuffling of the cards we play with, is that they really don't see how this affects ALL the sellers. They call a meeting with the top 20 sellers to discuss "issues" BIG WHOOP! Honey, they need to live for 1 month where I live.... where the real rubber meets the real road. Then see if they understand our frustration.

This is true, but ebay has proven time and time again that they do not care about the small or even the middle seller. They are slowly getting rid of them, and that includes me.

What I was trying to say and apparently not very effectively is
If the children that make the rules, change the rules had to live by the rules, they would understand the frustration of the people who have to LIVE by the rules. This is all a theory to them,to me and you its a real fence to jump every day.
Fluffy I CHOOSE not be to invisible to ebay or YOU. I CHOOSE to matter and I do to myself, my family and my community. That ebay's child employees don't understand or care about me and the thousand of other small and middle sellers, power or not is a lack of their humanity NOT MINE!

You must be confusing me with someone else.
I'm not sure what you want me to be a voice FOR or for whom.
And while I may not need the money to buy groceries, like most boomers I am acutely aware of the small amount of time remaining to each of us.* Not to mention painful physical limitations yet to come. I enjoy working and I want to keep doing it until I no longer enjoy it or are no longer able to do it. My long-range goal is to establish and nurture multiple streams of passive income, because I noticed some time ago that eBay sellers don't have pension plans.
So participating in a strike that doesn't have a clearly-defined purpose doesn't fit either my personal plan or my business plan.
Sorry.

So what are you going to do to make yourself seen? I don't think any eBay employees are monitoring the "Show Your Face" thread.
Signing petitions, participating in a boycott, those things sink you into the faceless mass of pretty much perpetually ticked-off sellers. (At least that's how eBay sees us.) We're always mad about something. We're easily ignored.

Over the years many have come and gone from this forum, but the general theme remains the same:
If sellers change products/practices to increase revenue, that is good business.
If eBay changes products/practices to
increase revenue, that is pure evil.

Fluffy, do you have any ideas?
You have to embarrass eBay. You have to put real people, real seller faces out there.
If I were planning this and were assured of 1,000 people showing up in costume and with signs at a particular time and particular day in San Jose, I would have them stand shoulder-to-shoulder on the sidewalks at Hamilton and Bascom Avenues. I would identify which people are willing to take the chance of being arrested for trespassing and possibly plan some other activities I will not discuss here.
eBay Headquarters is at the intersection of two extremely busy streets. There are shopping centers nearby, so there is both vehicle and foot traffic constantly.

I am sure that would be a great idea and would attract media attention. It would not be pratical for me, to travel there though. Do you believe there is anything or anyway to have a voice in another capacity?

Yes. Do something which no one really does anymore. Write a real letter to your local newspaper. Send a copy to ebay. Do the same with your local TV station.
Make it short and factual. Include how the recent changes have an impact upon your business and your life.

But if the item sells for $20, you used to pay $1.05 and now you'll have to pay $1.75 . The new prices may be good IF you don't expect the item to sell. I try to SELL all my items, since most are somewhat unique or unusual. The higher Final Value Fee will increase my costs. Coupled with the feedback changes, it is a deal breaker.
I rarely used gallery, because of the cost. I used to run all my auctions for 10 days to cover two weekends, but they raised the price, I quit using 10 day auctions. I'm going to work some extra shifts at work and probably avoid ebay for a few months. I'm lucky enough to have that flexibility. I used to enjoy ebay, but the corporation is taking the fun (and profit) out of it.
