I think we will see listings start rising today. Lots of people were holding off for fee change to go in to effect.

It doesn't make sense to wait for the fee change. It's an increase NOT a decrease. In order for it to be a decrease, you'd have to sit and hope your items don't sell. Oh, I'm certain there are sellers out there not smart enough to figure that out and those are the ones I expect to be listing like mad AND the ones I expect to see cramming with boards with complaints about how much they paid on the back end.

Oh that's right, the listing sale will end today and there is always a big drop when that happens. Could scare some investors though if they think it is because of the strike.

Here's another thought. . .sellers used to pay for gallery because it made their items stand out from those who didn't use gallery. What's going to make them stand out now since everyone will be using gallery? Are sellers going to pay for extras they wouldn't normally have paid for such as bold? Featured? I'll be they do. The powers that be at eBay knew exactly what they were doing and it wasn't "doing" sellers any favors.

Cheryl - some categories simply do not have a great sell through. Fact of life. Not stupid sellers. I know what my sell through averages and I know I pay a whole lot more in listing fees than I do in FVF's. I know that my sales increased when gallery was free. I don't hope that my listings don't sell for heavens sake but I am realistic enough to know that they are not all going to sell. I need to have the right persons on eBay and willing to wade through a gazillion postcard listings in order for them to find my item and sometimes the stars are not in proper alignment for that to happen. It works that way with some vintage collectibles. Not everyone wants a real photo postcard of some obscure town in South Dakota and the people that do might be at Vail this week...just can't predict outcome with even the most desirable postcard. For me this is a fee DECREASE pure and simple, both in Core and Store.
The DSR and related matters are another issue. Ditto to Best Match. They don't go into effect until later.

I agree with NEGLUS...running 100-200 auctions compared to 3000-4000 store items...my fees are cut in half. Plus an added bonus whenever this FEEDBACK % starts...I hope to get at least 5% OFF the 2% increase for FVF on store items. And another benefit on the 100-200 auctions, I usually paid for gallery...ain't anything else eBay has to offer now that I would pay extra for. So, I am saving 35¢ for each of the auctions also.

Neglus - I certainly wasn't talking about you!!!! I'm talking about the ones that don't bother to do the math and that will be listing like crazy just to get free gallery. With what I had up last week, my sell-through on auctions was somewhere around 64% (9 out of 14 sold). It would have been a huge fee increase for me had the new fees been in effect. As it is, I have to relist what didn't sell and I will have to charge my customer more in fees or raise the starting bid to cover FVFs. I'm selling these things as a TA.

Boycott? I went with with DUH option. I waited until today when the insertion fees are lower.
You can boycott eBay by not listing, but why impale yourself in the process with revenue loss.
The best way to show your dissatisfaction is to take your business elsewhere. If you don't like Wal_Mart you shop elsewhere. Local car dealer whizzed down your leg and tried to tell you that it was raining? You go somewhere else. Its just that simple. Just the way I like it SIMPLE.
I be scabbin' I guess but wait I don't belong to a union so I can't be a scab. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm........

"What's going to make them stand out now since everyone will be using gallery?"
I think we will see more sellers using porn pics, store logo pics and such.

Don't forget we no longer have a choice of which picture to put in the gallery, it will always be whatever we have chosen to use as the thumbnail at the top of the auction. So if you have a logo for that choice it will be your gallery picture. For example I have my first picture as the thumbnail so that will be the gallery. I used to use a closeup as the gallery but that won't work anymore.

But other than anecdotal, is there any evidence that the totals are boycott related?
My belief is that it is a slow selling season traditionally, and not helped by people wanting to rein in their spending on stuff (although on my listings, my 200.00+ stuff has done the best.
Sure, eBay will lose marginal sellers, but that will happen in any business. I heard a story about the "boycott" on NPR, with the story of the lady who can't sell her doll clothes on eBay due to changes. I paid attention because I sell on eBay, but if I was not a seller, I don't think I would care about this issue at all, and I don't think there will be any public outcry over this.
