Help!

Someone please look at my ebay auction#2019988052.

I launched this from inventory. In preview it looks fine. It is all screwed up on ebay. I spent hours yesterday revising my auctions and they look fine in the preview, but on ebay, they are all screwed up. Many of them have bids already so I can't revise them.

Can someone please tell me what caused this?

Hurry,
Jeff

This is terrible. I think I see the problem.

I use paypal smart logo in my auctions. In that section of the html, somehow AW switched slashes "/" to "\/". I'm not kidding! It is still correct in my inventory but here is an example:

<img src="http://images.paypal.com/images/lgo/

was entered into the auction as:

<img src=\"http:\/\/images.paypal.com\/images\/lgo\/

What the heck is going on?

I need help on this now!

Hi Jeff,

I have been looking at your auction and it looks like the HTML tags are conflicting with other HTML tags, causing the auction to look the way it does and the images to appear on the right, yet at the bottom. Regarding the PayPal logo -- eBay does not allow Java Script in their listings which the Smart Logo contains. Try obtaining another source code for your PayPal logo from payPal, and use that one instead. Has this happened to any of your other listings?

No. Look. Compare an inventory item to it's corresponding auction in the pending area. Did you read my last post? AW switched "/" to "\/" when it was moved to pending. An auction I launched the exact same way a day earlier went fine.

Also, Paypal smart logos are completely acceptable to ebay.

This error happened when I launched to pending yesterday.

The error is DEFINITELY with the fact that those slashes were changed. There are NO html errors. I have fixed all the active auctions that do not have bids on them.

What do I do about the rest?

Hi Jeff,

It is the HTML in your item description. I tested the exact HTML that you have using a different template and the same results showed during the preview. If you preview the copy you have of the current auction we are looking at, you will see what I am referring to.

OK. Maybe I did make a mistake. Which tag is wrong? I know that if I replace the smart logo only, it seems to fix it. Is there a closing tag missing? What?

Jeff

PS Sorry if I sounded a little loony, It just seems like whenever I try to simplify things lately, it just gets worse.

OK, well here's an example:

I looked at the auctions titled:

3DLabs Oxygen VX1 32MB AGP Graphics Card NEW!

in my inventory preview and it looked fine. I launched it to pending and it has the same problem. Look at it. It is the last one listed in pending.

I may have a problem in my html, but it is not showing in the preview in inventory. That preview is now unreliable to me.

Hi Jeff,

It looks like your HTML before the PayPal logo is entered correctly, although I'm not sure about the line breaks since they seem to extend the length of the page. The image layout you use is images on the right so it shouldn't be that way. I would guess that it's something in the PayPal logo HTML but I'm not positive about that. I'm not familiar with all the JavaScript HTML.

I'd suggest removing the line breaks, and seeing what it looks like in eBay preview.

Sonya,

Thanks for working with me on this problem. However, I think something is still up and I need to use the smart logo and it worked a day earlier. The auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2019735898

worked fine. Something has changed.

Would you do this for me?

1. There is an auction in my pending called 3DLabs Oxygen VX1 32MB AGP Graphics Card NEW! Pleasse click on it and look at it with the preview button. Then use the QUICK PREVIEW, then the eBAY PREVIEW. It looks fine in all the previews.

2. Now launch it to pending on some future date. Then click on it and see. Why does it change? All the previews look fine.

Thanks for the help,
Jeff

PS The line breaks changed nothing.

Hi Jeff,

I see what you mean now. When did this start happening, and has it happened to every auction you launched since or just to random ones?

Sonya,

It started yesterday. Auctions I started on Wednesday seemed fine. I think something changed.

I have escalated the problem to engineering and will get back to you in the thread as soon as it has been resolved. Thank you for working with me on this.

Sonya,

Thanks. I have one other thought. Now that I think about it, I have been having this problem for quite a while. I'd launch an auction and the Paypal smart logo would be wrong. Then I'd have to revise the auction on ebay. This went on for weeks and I figured I must have gotten too complicated and blown the html somewhere. That's why I changed all my auctions to this simplified clean look. Now it looks like it was some kind of problem between you guys and the smart logo all along.

Definitely let me know what you find out. Thanks for listening.

Hi Jeff,

Something I noticed when reviewing this bug/issue = the correct HTML *should* have the additional slash in there I think. I logged into PayPal and here is some of the HTML they use :

(http:\/\/images.paypal.com\/images\/lgo\/";s2="\" border=0 width=88 height=33 ALT=";
sA=new Array("","\"Winning bidder, click here to pay instantly by credit card!\"\>","\"Winning bidder,)

When you save this to inventory and launch, the pending section shows the following instead :

(http://images.paypal.com/images/lgo/";s2="" border=0 width=88 height=33 ALT=";
sA=new Array("",""Winning bidder)

From a simple HTML point of view, it would look like the first one is incorrect, when from a JavaScript point of view the second one is the one in error, and it does appear to be the result of listing it from inventory to active.

Let me know if this sounds right compared to what you have found. I did stick with the same template 9 as you are using in your listings, and will continue to follow up on this and pass information along to engineering to help troubleshoot this with you.

That does seem to be the problem. The question is, why does it change? Why should anything I type into the description be altered at all?

The smart logo works fine if I launch to eBay and then add it by revising.

I'm not the only AuctionWatch person using smart logos am I?

Sonya! You're the best.

Hey I did notice one thing. I don't usually use the default listing text because I have more than one Paypal account that is assigned to different auctions. As an experiement, though, I put the Paypal smart logo code in that box and launched one auction and it went fine.

It seems it only happens if I put the smart logo code directly into the description of an item and launch from inventory.

Thought that might be something to pass along. Hope it get's fixed soon.

Jeff

PS It would be really cool if a future development included support for multiple Paypal accounts and/or even multiple ebay accounts. I do most my auctions for a small company, but I also do my own auctions. I'd like to put them all on one feedback rating.

Hi Jeff,

The issue is still being dealt with at this time. Since you indicated in the beginning of this thread that you are indeed launching from inventory, can you try launching from the Control Panel and let me know if the problem continues from there? Thank you once again for your patience and your cooperation.

Hi,

I just created a new auction from the control panel and manually inserted the Smart Logo in the Description box. In the previews it looked fine (two perfect Smart Logos, because I have the Smart Logo right now in the default listing text).

When I scheduled it, however, the first one broke. The one that emanates from the Default Listing Text box works, but the one I pasted into the Description box does not.

It seems it is not an inventory issue.
