I had a similar problem about a year ago. It turned out to be a corrupt jscript.dll file. I deleted it and installed a new one and that solved the problem. If you try this approach, be sure you replace it with the EXACT same version of the file. You might want to get someone to help you with it. If that doesn't work, expect to see someone jump in here pretty soon and suggest reinstalling your browser.

I'm not adverse to reinstalling my browser when it's necessary, but I think that's a drastic approach to this problem. Sorta like burning down the house 'cause the faucet leaks! This computer is 5 months old and I've been getting jscript.dll errors with IE6 in AW (and only AW) from day one. The other PC in the house is also running IE6 and *also* gets this jscript.dll error only in AW. I don't think it's a coincidence. There's a programming conflict with AW and IE6.

Why not download Opera 6.X and try it? See if you still get the same errors. If not, you'll know for sure where the problem is. In any event, it's good to have a copy of Opera or Netscape on your system in the event you have to do revisions on Ebay where IE doesn't always work or if you need to look for html errors.

An excellent suggestion! I might just do that, sparkz. Thanks for suggesting it. Now which browser would you recommend? I'm not crazy about Netscape and I've never seen Opera. I surely don't need another bloated browser like IE6.

Far and away, my recommendation is Opera. It runs rings around anything Microsoft or Netscape has ever turned out. Log on to www.opera.com to get it. If that site is busy you can try www.downloads.com. Pay attention to what you download, as this browser is available for several operating systems in several languages. Be sure to get the one for your version of windows with java.

Sparkz,

I'm browsing with Opera 6.01 at this moment and getting acquainted with it's features. So far, AW is running okay. The first real test will be when I click "post reply" as I almost invariably got the dreaded jscript.dll error at that point. The next test is the Fullfillment Checklist, which has recently (to me anyway) been known as the Fitfull Checklist. Thanks again for the great suggestion. I'll be posting my results, you can be sure!

Hello everybody,

Note that we have extensively tested our site with IE 6.0, and we have been unable to replicate these javascript errors. Our feeling is that there may be a conflict with a program other than IE 6.0 (NAV, for example) or that there are some corrupted files within the IE installation on your system.

We are continuing to work on this, and we are making every effort to replicate the problem. We agree that reinstalling IE, using another browese, or uninstalling NAV are extreme measures - but until we are able to determine what is causing this to happen, we unfortunately have no other workaround to offer.

Thank you for your patience, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience.

Diana

Hello everyone,

We had a customer write in who was able to get IE 6 to stop from crashing by changing to low security settings, and disabling the automatic cookie override. You may want to try that workaround.

Shething,
If you are stil having problems, you can click on file, then select Quick Preferences. At the bottom of the page you can select how you want Opera to be seen by AW. You can either select Opera, or you can get it to emulate 3 different versions of Mozilla , or IE. You can also set Opera to reject pop up ads if they become a problem on other sites. Good Luck!!

I'm pleased with Opera as far as navigating in AW goes. I've gotten NO ERRORS whatsoever. I would definitely recommend this "workaround" to anyone else having error problems with AW and IE6, at least until AW finds a solution. It is once again a pleasure to do post-sale management rather than the aggravating and time-consuming chore it had become. Thanks again, Sparkz...and AW, perhaps you can get together with MS and work this situation out... I know, easier said than done....

My crashes all the time also. Both on XP-IE6-NAV2002 & 2000-IE6-NAV2001. I'm downloading Opera now and will start using it. What I was doing: When the error popped up I just moved it off the screen and never clicked on it, then just opened another window and it didn't seem to crash after that.

I am using IE 5.5, and it keeps crashing when I am in Auctionwatch. It seems to be crashing anywhere -- from Post Sales to Relists to Auction viewing.

Very frustrated. Please let us know the final fix. I am using Win 98 and a very old version of Norton AntiVirus.

Still happening, I cannot get much of anything done. Please, where is our update?

I do not wish to use Opera.

For people still having this problem, AW would appreciate it if you could report to us what VERSION of jscript.dll you have. Here's how to find out: (this works on Win2k; might be slightly different on 98/XP.)

Click on 'Start' -> 'Search' -> 'for Files or Folders'.
Type 'jscript.dll' in the box under "Search for files or folders named"
Click 'Search now'. Wait...
On the right-hand side, you will find jscript.dll (possibly more than one).
The one you want is probably in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 or similar.
RIGHT-click on that 'jscript.dll' file; select 'Properties' from the popup menu.
On the "jscript.dll Properties" popup window, click the 'Version' tab. Report to us the complete number after the words "File version:".

Hopefully we'll be able to find a pattern to the version causing difficulty, and perhaps offer directions to download a newer version of jscript.dll, if that is indeed the solution.

Thanks for your continued cooperation!

I have a terrible problem with IE6, and AW. I do not have Norton. I use a web based anti-virus program, but this problem was happening before I added this. I will be working in AW, and it will freeze up. Sometimes it just causes AW window to freeze, or shut down. Other times it causes everything to freeze up, or shuts down all IE windows, including Windows Explorer. I run Win95, and have been thinking of upgrading to ME, but by previous posts, that doesn't seem to be the answer.

I forgot, my version of jscript.dll is 5.6.0.6626 . This problem started for me after you did the major upgrade to the site a couple of months ago.

Oh this is just great. I was able to get two items listed today and now when I try to go into "Sales Manager" it says; page cannot display? What is going on? I can get to all the other links but the link I need to. I am not that computer smart and took me awhile to get to this board. Please explain to me in english what I need to do to fix this. Or is this something you are going to fix? Oh....... I am getting the lockups to and errors. I have to close that browser and open another one to get back in.
