So, if you want to knock off some ancient bad DSRs and are close to the 400 number it may make sense to run a bunch of listings to boost your annual transaction number so you are evaluated on 90 days rather than full calendar year.

Two things:

eBay delays applying some DSRs to your account to make sure you can't tie a bad rating to a particular buyer. I always thought this means a few days' lag but it can be weeks or even months, apparently. For example, someone leaves you a 5 on Communication; eBay holds onto that 5 and applies a 1 left for you previously.

The other thing is that manipulating your DSRs by running many more auctions than normal or selling a high volume at artificially low prices is now prohibited.

The master manipulators at eBayHQ seem terrified at the thought that someone will game the system they're using to game US.

I've given up trying to figure it out. Talk about lack of transparency. This is ridiculous. It could even be fraud they way they are manipulating the #s.

I remember when I was a kid we were always starting clubs. The first thing we did was set up rules - we spent hours setting up the rules and boy! was that fun. After awhile (probably the next day) the club was so full of rules we couldn't get anyone else to join (probably because they didn't qualify after all the rules we established) and the club was dissolved.

It seems to me that those kids at eBay are so busy setting up rules that they fail to notice that eBay is no longer all that desirable a marketplace. This top seller thing is just too random and the fact that they have based discounts and search status on it is very frightening. 1 or 2 vindictive "1's" in any of four areas can kill your business? Unthinkable!

neglus: You are right on. At least at your "club" (I remember those days) you knew the rules ahead of time even if they were restrictive. Ebay keeps changing the rules!!

Some of those "badges" are gone again. Was it a trial run? These people (Ebay employees) should have better things to do with their time.

New blah, blah,blah

"Do you qualify as an eBay Top-rated seller? This new status is coming at the beginning of October 2009, and will focus squarely on quality, rewarding those PowerSellers creating the best buyer experiences. Also, there will be new PowerSeller requirements and benefits in April 2010--PowerSellers of all sizes who consistently provide great service to their customers will receive the highest rewards as a Top-rated seller. Until April, the current requirements will continue. That gives you seven months to adjust your business practices to meet the new requirements. As an eBay Top-rated seller, you'll earn top rewards--20% Final Value Fee discounts, increased visibility in search results for Fixed Price listings, a prominent Top-rated seller badge on your item pages and more."

I notice that it only says "increased visibility for FIXED PRICE listings."

I also noticed that the badges were gone from the places I saw them initially. Are they still on any of the listings you see??

They are back in my category. I did a search for Dempster ad and just about everyone (BUT ME) has the little badge.

Beth - I don't see any Top Seller Badges when I do the Dempster ad search! Maybe you are in a test group?

I also didn't see one when I viewed that item # - or yours. Maybe I am in a test group?

I saw the badges back, also when doing a search, but not on the seller I originally saw it on. Maybe he qualified and then was disqualified. Who can figure it out, not me!!

Or...your browser. I see them with my Mozilla but NOT with my Google chrome. Who knows.

The entire program must be in a test phase. I received a call from ebay about a week ago. The caller infomed me that I will qualify for the program once it begins in October.

Sure surprised me.
