Mivona - I was tempted to do the same, but figured it would be like throwing myself at a brick wall. Kind of like some of the discussions here at the RT!
Here's a racing web site with the opposite perspective, though:

Untrue. Abstinance is 100% effective at birth control.
I feel that neither parent ought to be enguaged in dangerous activities if they have children: children come first. I never approved of fathers who were pilots for experimental aircraft, nor should mothers be race car drivers. To risk the loss of one parent because they "get a thrill" out of what they are doing is dangerous, then that is being extrememly selfish. You want kids? You need to put them first before your own wants and needs. Otherwise, don't have kids.

I am sure it was Shawna that brought on the rant.
What is not mentioned is that the woman (Shawna) took ten years off to have her family and be a full time mother. She is 36 years old and a rookie WC driver...well actually she will be older than that when she does her rookie year. How many men have had to put their career on hold to have a family.
Less Fuzzy...you better comment on this...I wanna know your young pup perspective (as well as everyone elses...well...except maybe Ken's...he talks too much).

There was a woman mountain climber here that died last year. I am not really sports oriented, and so cannot remember her name, but the papers had this slant on her too, that she left grieving children behind.
But I remember reading in another report that, although her children were sad, they were also immensely proud of their mother for what she had achieved. The mountain took her life, but they remember her as a strong, courageous woman pursuing her passions.
Tragedy strikes anytime, anywhere... It is life, and if someone has the desire to pursue something dangerous, male or female, it is their choice and their family who deals with it. Who are we to judge them?
This woman's stupid double-standard is what pisses me off... ok for men/dads, but not ok for women/mums.. or even POTENTIAL mums.
Like women are totally defined by their biology.
Would it be ok if women drivers get themselves sterilised? Men drivers too?

I race everyday....first to the bus, then to the supermarket, back home to cook, out for errands, to scouts, then religion....if I didn't there'd be no way I could get three kids in three separate places all at one time!....
Edited to add...Zoom, Zoom, Zoom

Since she feels so strongly she and her peers are so inferior I asked her what she was doing taking up a writing job that some man would be happy to have and do better.
Of course that is different I am sure. I am waiting to hear how....

Oh Dang! I knew if I read that I was going to get angry! Did it stop me ??? NNnnoooooooo.
First of all she should have proof read her diatribe. In the first paragraph I am quite sure she meant "mate" not "meet". whoever heard of a "loving help meet"?[heck, maybe she meant "meat"]
Anyone can be killed at anytime at home or away. Things happen. Life is short. It sucks. To say that women have to behave differently than men based on biology is just plain stupid.
Whats next? Women can't drive at all because it is just too dangerous? If this person had it her way we would all be like the women in Afghanistan, unable to leave our homes without a male escort.

Are you sure this is a female even though it says "Mom" on the top? After all, there are males named Caroll. Maybe they dropped the extra "L." Sure sounds like a male to me.
When I was 10 & 11 in the late 50s, I raced 1/4 and 1/2 midgets , and I was ask why a girl would do something like that because it was dangerous! Please. I ate dirt, thats about it.
On my 30th birthday I flew in a glider above the everglades. No motor...so the silence was awesome. I was ask if it was dangerous.
On my 40th I wanted a balloon ride...but couldn't afford it.
Last year on my birthday I started (and finished)legal action to get my maiden (grr!)name back. My
Mother even ask if it wasn't dangerous. Wouldn't my husband be angry? Did anyone ask
how I felt losing my name 30 years ago?
I am looking at another birthday next month.
Wonder what I might do to celebrate this time? Wonder what kind of unwomanly thing I can do?
That kind of crap really pi$$es me off too. I
hope you younger ones will think twice about all the junk that has been handed down to you.

Why goodness, this is like a command performance (trust me, when GF tells me to do something, I figured I'd damn well better do it!! ).
Ok, I didn't read the link. Nope, NOT gonna do it.....Dr. said my blood pressure was to high today, and my guess is that story would likely kill me off.
That said, I can pretty well guess the content.
My feeling is this: The idea that a person can or cannot do X,Y, or even Z because of their sex is, for lack of a better word, CRAP. It is like saying, "Nope, Fred can't do X,Y, or even Z because he is black".
It is an old double standard that seems, for whatever reason (my guess is fear), seems to continue in the face of fact.
Here are a few 'did you know' facts that might interest the readers:
WOMEN suffer MORE heart attacks than MEN. However, most medical studies (how, when, why, how to fix) focus on men.
WOMEN, because of the way they are built (it is a heart/lung thing), make BETTER fighter pilots than men do.

I cant swear this is true, but I think it's that women suffer more fatal heart attacks. In many cases "she died in her sleep" might mean "she had a fatal heart attack", but no one knows it. That might be due to anything from the fact that women aren't conditioned to investigating heart attack symptoms that aged men are or maybe a woman's physiology plays a role. But I believe that it's true that men suffer more heart attacks.

A blonde is terribly overweight. So her doctor puts her on a diet. "I want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, then repeat this procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you'll have lost at least five pounds."
When the blonde returns, she's lost nearly 20 pounds. "Why, that's amazing!" the doctor says. "Did you follow my instructions?"
The blonde nodded. "I'll tell you though, I thought I was going to drop dead that third day." "From hunger, you mean?"

Heck, it would leave out postal work for that matter--not to mention a myriad of other jobs that have any element of risk (which is most of them).
