I can't thank you enough for all the great info. After listing on ebay for about 4 years I decided to try Yahoo and I have been tearing my hair out.........And getting very confused. I just found the thread about the category numbers ( a big headache) and now this thread clears up a lot more. IMHO Yahoo could make this whole listing thing a bit more user friendly. (There I feel better} .....One more question.....On ebay I have a link to my webpage in the description. Is that allowed on yahoo?? Regards, Pam

Pam Yes. I have a link to my feedback at Ebay in my ads. I have found Yahoo to be very laid back.

I DO YAHOOOOOOO

labbie1 - how do you get the clickable link in your auction descriptions - is it one of those HTML (genius) "thangs"?

If you have (former) eBay auctions in your AW inventory/closed auctions, can you easily (and safely) relist them to Yahoo through AW?
Or, do you advise to set them up directly at Yahoo? Maybe I should rephrase this : is it better to start over (cut/paste) previous eBay auctions and start "new" for Yahoo ?

If you can relist through AW, is this easy and do you have any pointers? I've read not to switch your photos but to upload them to Yahoo and add them after relisting the auction - do I suppose this is easy? Well, this is becoming a jumbled mess(!). Maybe you know what I mean better than I! I appreciate your assistance.

Disn't the Yahoobots ever fix that quotation bug in the title? that was reported to the well over 1 year ago by me and others.

One thing that is not a bug is the Cap and Special characters Parser. this was explaind to me by the Late TC that Yahoo didn't want the titles to look as junky as ePays...the wanted to eleminate something like:

!!!***LOOK ***!!! MAGIC POTIONS*****!!!!

What they did was ruin some of my tame titles like:

Apple IIe Software

Which becomes:

Apple Iie Software

Which becomes Illegible with Yahoo changes and the IIe which is a model for an old Apple 8 bit computer becomes a non word: "Iie".

This is similar to legislating morality, though not as bad. Why can't they just let the seller decide how his ad should read?

FREE is the essense of Yahoo. Without Free, it would be a ghost town.

Speaking of free on another thread somebody mentioned the free phone calls you can make from Yahoo Messenger and I tried it. It works pretty good. I called several friends on both Coasts and it doesn't cost a dime. they don't even need to know what a computer is, let alone have one. All they need is a phone and no extension # after the phone #. The only way it differs from real phones is the person you call hears an echo of what he says, and you can't both talk at the same time. It works best if you speak and then say "over" when you are finished so the other party can begin talking without getting stepped on.

What you need is a sound card with speakers and a microphone, and the free download of Yahoo Messenger and the Net2Phone apps from here:

http://phone.yahoo.com/

zzyzx000 I use the headset which eliminates the echo of your microphone picking up the sound coming from the speakers when someone is talking.

Also, I think it depends on the soundcard that you have. On my computer, we talk just like we do on the phone--sometimes both at once.

You have to try either Yahoo Messenger's phone or Dialpad.com. They are GREAT!

You can list from AW, if you save to Inventory first, then open the item and put in the Yahoo! site information and launch from Inventory. There's one problem with doing it this way: Yahoo! allows users to "Show Photos" on a search, kind of like a gallery. The images for these thumbnails must be stored on the Yahoo! servers, by uploading during the listing process. If you don't use the Yahoo! listing feature, you don't get a thumbnail pic of your item when a user selects the "Show Pictures" feature, so the user doesn't see your item. The "best" bet is to cut and paste from your AW listing info into the Yahoo! listing page. Very time consuming, but IMO, it's worth it to get the thumbnail on your auction.

singingeagleusa I am sorry that I completely missed your post!

First, the clickable links are html. There are a couple of html web sites that are easy and will help you learn how to do links, colors, etc.

1) is html goodies at http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com/

2) Lisa Explains it all html for kids
http://www.lissaexplains.com/
Don't let the title fool you, she explains things in less technical terms, but she goes into everything including the nifty floating cursers etc.

As for the AW inventory. You can easily list items from your AW inventory to Yahoo. The problem with this is two-fold:

1) AW does not allow for long titles. These are essential on Yahoo espeically if you are running 1st Bid Wins! auctions and once you list an auction on Yahoo, you cannot change the title or anything in the ad. You can add to the ad, but you cannot change the actual ad.

2) You need to upload at least one photo through Yahoo for each auction in order to be in the photo gallery which is also essential at Yahoo.

I cut and paste and list directly through Yahoo. Uploading a picture to Yahoo is the same as uploading to AW. It brings up a screen that allows you to browse your hard drive for the picture that you wish to use with the ad, you choose the picture and tell it to upload. You can upload up to 3 pictures for an ad (unless they have changed that--but I think it is still 3). Be sure to upload the one that you want to show in the gallery first. The first picture for each auction that you upload will be the one that shows in the photo gallery at Yahoo.

It is very easy to create an auction and Yahoo--in fact I think it is very much like AW was before it "simiplified" it's listing process.

If you have multiples of an item, when one sells, you can simply go to "My Auctions" and to "sold" then scroll to the listing for the item that you have a multiple of where you will see a clickable link on the right that says "resubmit this item". Click on that and voila' you have a new auction started.

I think that Yahoo took great pains to make listing very easy including the pictures and I love the long titles!

Changing the auction once it has started is another matter entirely! They couldn't have made that harder if they had asked Ebay for help!

Actually granee and VeryModern are great at Yahoo. They have been around Yahoo for a while and really know the ins and outs.

Welcome and good luck!

pickersangel : Thank you so much - you've helped me a great deal!

labbie1 : Thank you, as well and, don't worry about missing my post, I had a feeling that's what happened so I placed my 2nd post as a "plea".

I had to chuckle about item 2) "Lisa explains
it all HTML for kids"..... This is right up my alley. Do you know how many times I've had to ask somebody to explain something to me in "babytalk"???? LOL!

I had a feeling about cut/paste and will do that with my closed items in Inventory.

I have been reading as much as I could about listing on Yahoo (writing down notes) and posted my last questions here last night. When I didn't hear from anybody, I just couldn't wait any longer so I decided to do a trial auction, incorporating what (I think)
I had learned. Sometimes (new) things can become so much more complicated in your mind
that I find it's better to just get in there and experience the "new thing" first hand. I created the auction right from Yahoo since I wasn't sure about the inventory issue and I found it extremely easy, like you said.

Now, am I allowed to ask someone to critique my auction? If so, what do I have to give you to find it? I have no idea how to get around Yahoo's site yet or what references you use to find somebody's auction. I know NOTHING about the site yet as a matter of fact - just know how to put an auction on!

Oh, and what is this YahooBooth?

Thank you so very much, again!
