Oh yeah, Terminator 3 is in the works. Peta Wilson La Femme Nikita (speaking of Australians) has been mentioned as a possibility to fill the role of a cold, all-business female cyborg that shows up to hunt down Arnold. Yawn.
Everybody knows that the best ones out of the Batman movie franchise are the Burton/Keaton movies. Also everybody knows that Joel Schumacher made the suckiest Batman ever (The Batman & Robin flop)
As for Burton, The Nightmare Before Christmas is not a cartoon, is a stop-motion animation movie, and an excelent one, I might add. It even was nominated for an Oscar for best special effects (lost to Jurassic Park)
Mars Attack! was an excelent dark humor sattire about everything and everybody.
The legend of Sleepy Hollow was also an excellent adaptation to the book.
I'll agree that Burton's dark and moody settings are not for everyone, but I think he was the best choice the producers could've come up with to direct Apes.

You're using Mars Attacks in support of Burton? LOL. I think you and about six other people went to see it.
And so what if Burton made the "best" of the Batman bunch? They all sucked big time.
Regarding Burton's "dark and moody settings," all he's really done is recycle the visionary work of the men who made the original Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Frankenstein, etc.

Those dark and moody settings remind me of the old soap operas from the 60's. Remember them? My mother wouldnt let me watch Another World because Pat got pregnant and wasnt married. How times have changed.

Unlike most of the posters here, I'm not looking for art at the movies...just entertainment.
I know Hogan isn't a great actor...most actors aren't. That's ok...I just like to look at his wonderful, lived-in face.
Harvey Keitel, Forrest Whittaker (sp?), Joseph Montegna, Toshiro Mifune (late lamented)...all have much life in their faces. These last four are wonderful actors...but, that's gravy. Sometimes, I prefer the character actors to the leading men...though god knows, Mifune was a lead. Yes, indeedy, he was... A man with more machismo than his could destroy entire nations with one tiny exhibition of temperment...
I know this is OT...but, I couldn't stand to see Hogan getting dissed, especially for getting old. Bet he's younger than Sean Connery...

Then there was that time my parents were away and my grandmother had us for the weekend. Planet of the Apes was going to be on TV for the first time, but grandma wouldn't allow us to watch it because it was "against the Bible." What kills me is, we weren't even fundamentalists. We were Catholics.

The first time it was on TV I kept begging her to come in & watch it with me (I'd seen it when it was first released). She kept saying "in a minute" and finally came & stood there watching the last 5 or 6 minutes of the movie. As Heston fell to his knees cursing before the ruined Statue of Liberty my mother said: "Goddamn monkeys!" Then turned & left the room.

Regarding Tim Burton. Burton is okay, some of his movies I really liked "Pee Wee's Big Adventure", "Edward Sissorhands". One of them I considered one of the best of the 90s, "Ed Wood". Great movie in my eyes, some fantastic performances, and a really touching tribute to the worst director in Hollywood history.

Spaz, that sounded more like Dr Ruth.
Toke, I like Paul Hogan also. And you described him perfectly as having a great face. He does have one and I definetly like looking at him. Sean Connery, well, hes ok, but cant hold a candle to Mel Gibson.

Maybe he should do a vampire film, then.
Maria Schriver could co-star as his undead wife (where Maria's concerned, the savings in make-up effects alone could offset a sizeable portion of the production costs).
(Couldn't resist the long-in-the-tooth/vampire joke. I like humor in that vein.)
posted on April 5, 2001 11:05:43 PMNettak & Pharlap LOL, I'm going to tell my son that he now has a place to stay when he gets to Australia! See what trouble you've both gotten yourselves into.
He really does warn me about his plans at least once a week. Hope you've got a room cleared out for him... he's a good boy. Not paranoid anywhere else but here!
posted on April 5, 2001 11:43:56 PMMybid, Maybe we could do an exchange of sons'. I'll take yours if you take mine.
Mine is 16 going on 30 and he is a good boy too. Now there speaks Mother love. LOL
posted on April 5, 2001 11:57:38 PMNettak I also have an 18 year old daughter... going on fortysomething...
If you'll let me throw her in too then you've got a deal. LOL
Does your son like a houseful of pets? We've got more critters running around this place than a zoo. Does he cook & clean? My kids don't cook and only clean under extreme duress and excessive nagging.
posted on April 6, 2001 12:23:26 AMMybid, My son is a pet. LOL
He is the a true animal lover. He's the kid that used to come home and say, "Mum , but it just followed me", and the poor dog would be tied up to the post so it could not escape. LOL
We have 2 dogs, sometimes 3 depending on what the son has just arrived home with, 3 fish, 1 cat, 1 chicken, 1 galah and a fox that lives in the paddock behind us. Animal always welcome in our neck of the woods. Gosh we usually have at least 6 stray boys floating around at weekends and sometimes through the week. Like I said Animals always welcome.
Your 18/40 something daughter and my 16/30 something son would probably get on like a house on fire. But my 18 daughter is a keeper and I couldn't trade her in. LOL But I do have a 20 year old boy who may like to travel.
Yes 16/30 can wash his own clothes, very fussy about them actually. But does not like to clean room, wash up or sweep floors. I would say we would probably have an even trade.

Gary Oldman and Billy Bob Thornton
Along with the others posted.
One comes to mind that could be on his way to become a character actor is Mike Myers.
Now I'm not talking about his slapstick Austin Powers crap.
(I did like So I Married an Axe Murderer though)
I'm talking about the part he played in 54.
I was suprisingly impressed with his performance.
Some comics can't make that jump(from comedy to drama)without being criticized or it being a flop.
Like for instance, I don't think Jim Carrey might not do well if he tried to do a serious drama because people who go see the movie would expect him to do his antics.
I haven't seen Man on the Moon so I don't know if that was a serious kinda movie or a dark comedy.
Maybe Jim was a wrong example, but do you see my point?
