Hi. My problem is back again. I fixed it yesterday with your help and I just tried to list and have the same problem catagory problem. I disabled Norton icons(like I did yesterday) I tried the control+F5 and the bar on the lower right kept loading with blue and doing it over and over again. It never finished so I finally stopped and tried the catagories again and still didn't work. Do you suppose restarting the computer this morning lost the fix we had made yesterday. I need a permanent fix. I have Windows 98 if that makes a difference.

Hi again. You are not going to believe this but it is working now. After I wrote the last post I tried it again and it worked. What do you think is going on?

Hi Christopher,
Thanks for the response. I followed your instructions but when I got to the start-up tab Norton is not listed so could not disable it.

Good evening everyone!! Feb 27th 7pm
Well, my Catagory Pull Down was working fine this morning.. and here it is 9 hours later and IT'S not working AGAIN!!!!
I am sooooo upset with this! I have tried everything possible again tonight.. by the way Christopher, when I type in msconfig. .. I get an error message from windows saying "windows cannot find msconfig. make sure you typed in the word correctly"
.. I don't think I have this Option on XP.. I did with Windows ME ..
..but to no avail, again tonight the catagory bar isn't cooperating for me.
What changed that we have to turn off all these icons, Norton, push CTRL F5 .. blady blady blah blah blah?
Isn't it something your vendio techie guys can fix????
If it WERE only me, I'd think.. YES! It is something with just my PC.. but there are others experiencing the problem also. I hate turning off NORTON when I am online! You can't believe the attack messages I get continuously!
I think ebay should change their catagories back so I can list without the hassle of "looking" up numbers which sometimes are incorrect from the actual ebay "catagory" numbers.
:} Gee, you think they'd do that? Just for me????? LOL!!
Ok, signing off for tonight. If anybody else is having this problem, my heart go out to you... and I pray this is all just a bad nighmare and I will wake up tomorrow .. and the sun will be shinning ... and the birds will be singing.. and my CATAGORY pull down works .. and .. and ...

Can you believe we are going through the same thing we did yesterday and don't you wonder why it is just a few of us? How could the fix from yesterday be gone today. I hope we don't have to go through this every day. Mine were fine last night and when I went to list this afternoon I had the problem again. But they were fine 2 hours ago.

Hi Mommoo... glad you got it up and running again! I have had an awful time the last few hours... still lots of time left before bed.. to add more items, but too exhausted from all these "fixes" ...
.. Why should we have to disable Norton?..
doesn't that bother you? I know your running Win 98 (lucky girl.. I miss the old versions!) and I am on XP .. but we both use Norton? What is up with that?
.. and even if Norton is disabled, sometimes the bar is there, and then it isn't.
I think we have "haunted catagory pull down bars" !! Disapearing like ghost!
Well, I will go try everything all over one more time and then calling it quits for the night. I will probably be back tomorrow begging for more "guidence" I sure wish they would fix this problem! Hugs, and Blessings, DEB

Well Friends..... I bailed and called my computer tech and paid money to fix this disruption.....He said it could be multiple problems including EBay changes in categories and Vendio conflicts with loading such (Sorry). But itwas just fixed so I haven't seen what tomorrow brings...Here's what he did....not saying this will help anyone else but...I have XP...Disable Norton..Go to Start...All Programs...Acessories....System Tools..Disk Clean-up....Clean "C" disk Drive..Press "OK"..."Delete Download Program" and "Temporary Internal Files" ...Click "OK" ....Go back to Vendio page that has EBay Category "Pull-Down"...Click cursor anywhere in its field..then press "Refresh" or F5 then restart computer and enable Norton Anti-virus......It worked...If it doesn't... repeat it again...Thanks for all the responses...love you all but hope we don't meet again over this Glitch...Ohanastyle

Hello,
What ohanastyle mentions is a great suggestion, clearing up the temp files on the C drive should help.
One other user that I worked with directly on this issue was able to fix it by doing something similair.
First, delete your temporary internet files. Click to delete offline content as well, then delete the cookies and clear the history. When finished, go to your pending section and click on the title of an existing item that you have already setup to list. If you dont have one, use the copy link next to any of the items you have in the active section to place one into pending first.
Click on the title of this existing item in pending, then scroll down the page past the template section and click to edit the category. (gray 'edit category' button)
Check to see if you can load this category window instead, where it just loads this first category on its own. If so, browse around and change it to something else, just to see if it will load the rest as well.
If that goes well, go ahead and click to create a brand new item and see if the category tree loads from this page as well.
Please let us know the results of your efforts.
Regards,
Christopher

Good morning all! It FINALLY worked. I followed ohanastyle's suggested fix and as soon as I had deleted the download program and temporary internal files and went to the Vendio category page (wonder of wonders!) the pull-down tab was there without doing the refresh F5. Hopefully we won't have to do this everytime we want to list items. I agree with Deb that it makes me very nervous to disable Norton! Thanks to all for your suggestions and help..appreciate it.

Well gang, add another to the list of "no category pull-down." It seems to me this is Vendio's problem, not ours. (Sorry Ragu!) Today, I did everything known to mankind to correct this. I have Windows XP with IE on a cable modem. First I went to Microsoft and downloaded an XP Service Pack Update. It was their "critical update." Then I checked my Java applications.
Then I checked ActiveX. Then I shut down Norton firewall. Then I decided after wasting most of my morning on the computer... WAIT A MINUTE!... I was getting a category drop-down last night. So because it's not working today, it's my computer's problem? I went ahead and opened an Andale account and have been creating auctions all day with no problems.
Or... until Vendio gets this fix.. you can load the category numbers into the box individually. You'll need the "leaf" list, so here it is:
http://books.listings.ebay.com/_W0QQloctZShowCatIdsQQsocmdZListingCategoryOverview
Good luck, and pray that Vendio gets it act together.

Hello,
Do you have an eBay toolbar? eBay has updated their toolbar, and they recommend that in order to restore access to the category tree that you uninstall and then reinstall the toolbar. To uninstall, you may use the Add/Remove programs wizard in Windows. Once uninstalled, go to eBay and click Site Map. Scroll to the bottom and on the left you will see eBay Toolbar. Click to download, and once it is downloaded completely, turn off your computer and then restart it.

Sonya

It worked for awhile, but then back to not working! Had to disable Norton, go back and delete temp internet files on my C drive that had accumulated since the last delete process...and now it is working again. I have never downloaded the ebay tool bar and never had a problem with the category field before. Also, do not have it on my computer now. I do hope that we don't have to go through this process every time we want to list items...there has to be a glitch somewhere.

Feb 29th....
... another day.. and the catagory drop/pull down bar for ebay is STILL not working properly. Is anybody out there really caring about this?
Do this.. do that .. sometimes it works.. sometimes it doesn't ...
And by the way... even when I try to use an old listing or a pending auction, then try to "edit" the catagory inside the auction "the catagory" still DOESN'T WORK!
I am tired of attempting all the "tricks" to get the thing to work. This shouldn't be happening. There are more users than just myself with the problem.. so please Vendio, get with eBay and figured out why this is happening. I am quickly becoming fed up with the hassle.

Hi,
I was having this problem. Then I tried Radu's advice and hit CTL + F5. It worked instantly. Give this a try. I have a feeling it will work.

Hey Tim... yes! I see you too were having my problem. However, I HAVE done the CTRL F5 thing.. plus half a dozen and 12 of another things to get my catagory bar to be "visable".
My problem is .. sometimes these little tricks work, somethimes they don't. Not even turning off my Norton Securty works every single time. I have used the CTRL F5 buttons so much lately I am actually seeing my paint wear off the keys!!!! I am not joking!
I will keep working on it.. but the thing NEVER STAYS fixed. I am constantly having to go thru the whole process of clearing cashe, cookies, temp files, disabling Norton and on and on and on ... But HEY! Thanks for tying to help. Hugs, DEB

Hi everyone... Vendio has installed a "catagory TEST PAGE" .. please go try using it and see if the page loads the catagories for ebay listings.
It didn't work for me.. but maybe it will for you. Then write customer support and let them know what happened on the page.. (my progression dots started to load for a few minutes then dissapeared) and the page stopped .. with no pull down list.
I still have to go thru the dozen "quick fix steps" to get it working then use the CRTL F5 button... sometimes it works.. sometimes it doesn't.
When it DOES WORK.. I quickly make several "new" listings that are in my auctions pending. Then later go back and add discription text, pics.. etc.
Let me know if the test page works for you.
Blessings, DEB

Hi, sorry to hear you are having problems. Allow me to suggest an alternative. Every time ebay reconfigures their categories I print them out. This way it helps me to find a category without having to scroll the whole list. I had a problem the other day with the categories not showing up. So I looked up the category I wanted - typed it directly into the box with the #0 in it and VOILA! My category showed up and I was able to continue my auction. And the category box was still searching. Hope this helps. Steve

Although I have not experienced this problem, one thing that has not been mentioned is the possibility of unwanted spyware interfering with the catagory loading process. I would recommend downloading a copy of Spybot Search And Destroy and running it to clean up your hard drive. You'll be surprised at what you might find lurking inside your computer. It may not solve the problem, but it certainly can't hurt and may prevent other problems. Be aware that one of the programs it recognizes as spyware is a program called "eBay Tool Bar". Whether this is the program offered by Ebay or a third party freeware site, I have no idea because I've never downloaded it, but the SB S&D program will let you know.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

This is neat now the category lookup is working but the whole page reconfigures the blocks change size the page shifts up on the screen as though the program went some where else and grabbed a different page.

Hi everybody,
We have released a change to the category map (the map is basically split into separate "chunks", since the list is so large now.)
For more detail on this fix, click here.
Thank you for your patience while we worked to resolve this.

Good Morning everyone!
I was hesitant to write until I was "sure" but I DO believe the catagory map "work around" has solved my problem. I had no trouble yesterday or this morning accesssing the catagories for ebay... and hopefully it will continue to work!
I want to thank everybody for posting and writing Vendio, if you experienced the problem. AND .. I WANT TO THANK YOU VENDIO.. for working with us and giving us all the benefit of the doubt, it WASN'T working.. and striving to correct the issue.
I wish everyone a profitable 'Sunday' with paying bidders .. and however it was "nice" chatting with you, I also hope our paths do not cross again on THIS particular board.
Post if your NO LONGER having problems.. and let me know if it's just a "fluke" that I am now able to acess the catagories. THANK YOU VENDIO! I LOVE YOU!
Blessings to all! Deb
