What a nice collection of back-sleeping kitties we have on this thread!
Zilvy, thanks for the Febreeze suggestion and for your kind thoughts about my kitty. Kazu is home now and his sample came back clear, so the verdict is that he's just being bad. I'm glad to have the little furry guy home again, that's for sure!

We had a cat once that got this problem when he was emotionally upset. When ever we would leave him alone for a few days to go somewhere, he would ignore us on return. Even though he was well fed, and a neighbor checked on him.
Cats are very emotionally attached to their owners, as the vet told us. He would get a urinary tract blockage, as a result of the stress. Couldn't urinate at all. Then he would start to get lethargic, and just lay around.
We got to recognize the signs, and took him to the vet right away. Eventually, he died from it. The last time it happened, the vet put him to sleep to drain him, and he never woke up. He was very old by then, but he had a great life while he lived.

I inherited him last year from, of all people, my father's new wife's ex-husband, who was dying of cancer. His original name was "Cornbread", but I refuse to live in a house with a cat named Cornbread!

I have had all kinds of cats...with all kinds of strange behaviors. Actually most of my cats were really my Moms. She had a way with animals and most lived in excess of 15 years with 21 being our oldest cat and 25 our oldest dog. Even our vet shed a tear when they were gone. He had taken care of them personally since they were babies.
Male cats can take to marking their territory. Some even pick up a strange habit of what our vet called "spraying". Virtually impossible to break. Sometimes neutering stops it, but not necessarily.
I even had a female that displayed that strange behavior. She marked the yard at very percise intervals. It was a weekly ritual with her. She was extremely territorial and allowed no other cat in her yard! She had been spayed at an early age, and the vet thought that might have something to do with it. She never took to marking the furniture though. She was the sweetest cat I have every known. She loved to set in laps. Any lap was fine with her. She also liked to stretch up and wrap her front legs around your neck for a good hug.
She didn't meow like most cats, she made the strangest noises and you could carry on a "conversation" with her if you didn't mind sounding like a fool! Most people didn't seem to mind, they were facinated by her unique vocal expressions. I had a friend who liked to drag people over and tell them they just had to hear that cat! She was very entertaining and seemed to genuinely enjoy the interaction.
I lost her last month. She had just turned 18. She just went to sleep and didn't wake up. I really miss her. This is the first time in my entire life I do not have a four-legged friend with me. Seems so strange not to have that special friend.
I have enjoyed all the pictures. I will go so far as to say I have never seen a finer collection of felines!

Sulyn, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you can open your heart to a new little furry friend in the near future. I really believe they are a health benefit to us.
Barry, thanks for letting me know his name. He is a wonderful looking cat, personality plus...yes kind of an odd situation for getting him, but I think he is lucky.

Here's our "little" boy, "Tigger"! He sleeps like that all the time!
RainyBear - Fabreeze doesn't do a THING for cat pee, you need to get something that is enzyme based. Spray it with fabreeze, and while YOU won't be able to smell it, your puddy WILL - and he'll keep going there, 'cause that's "his" spot now.
Tigger peed on our leather couch quite often when we first got it. I found this stuff at Harris-Teeter from "Earth Friendly Products" called "Stain and Odor Remover". It's a citrusy spray and REALLY gets the smell out. Didn't harm out leather, either. Though I would still suggest trying it in a inconspicuous spot before cleaning the entire couch.
