I have a question regarding SellYourItem's handling of auctions that close without a bid and then relisted.
Does the "closed auction" show up in Search | Completed, or is it not counted because of the relisting?

I mosied on over last evening and found something I've been looking for but haven't found on any other small site yet, so decided to go ahead and bid. I don't know when I've had to go through so much hoopla to place a bid! I think it took four pages to get there. I wasn't real impressed.

Hello WallyPog,
I'm not sure why you found placing a bid so onerous on SYI. Assuming you are already logged into SYI:
You click on the Bidding tab or the Bid Here gavel icon.
You scroll down the page to the bid amount entry field and supply your bid amount.
You click on the Review Bid button.
You review the details of your bid and then click on the Place Bid button.
3 clicks, 3 pages.

By way of contrast to place an identical bid on eBay you:
Click on the Bid icon (or scroll down to the bid amount entry field).
Supply your bid amount.
Click on Review Bid.
Review the details of your bid and then click on the Place Bid button.
2/3 clicks, 2/3 pages.

The only real difference is that with eBay you can scroll down to the bid amount and thus eliminate one click/one page display over the SYI method.

I tried to get items in from ebay ( which you can do on this site) but my computer crashed /or I ended up with placing my id on several times and finally lost the listing! very very difficult but the site looks nice and the bids are impressive ! Hope this site takes off. I like bidville too but havent' sold anything yet~ I plan to add a lot in August on alternative sites. Good luck everyone on finding alternative sites to ebay! Suzanne

The staff is very responsive to questions. Get the right answer the first time around.

If an auction relists it gets a new auction number.
If you click on the site map, you can go directly to all completed auctions.
That is where I am getting my bid count information from.

Then it certainly looks like the "completed auctions" page gives you the information needed to calculate a very, very close approximation to the sell-through rate.

Yes, I believe it is an accurate count. Also, on the completed auction page, you can sort by a number of things and also change the default for the number of listings on a page.
I set it for bid count/descending order/100 per page.
Then I just click away until I get to a page where the auctions with no bids start.
I wish the other smaller sites had the same thing for comparison purposes.

This flattening and possible downward trending in the total listings does not bode well for SYI.
A shame since it seems like a great alternative to the 500 pound gorilla that is eBay.
Could probably use an angel investor that would put up the money necessary to do some national advertising.
