Do you (general you) believe in miracles? Signs? I don't. But I do believe in coincidences. Weird, eerie coincidences. Like the one that happened to me this afternoon. I was walking through Goodwill and the manager kind of motioned for me to come over. She said, "I've got something for you." Then she showed me some software she'd been holding for me.
It was several cases of (among others) a program called Cygwin. It's a software program that lets you run UNIX/Linux from within a Windows NT shell. Now is this weird or what?! Because it's exactly the kind of thing we were talking about yesterday. The other stuff the manager was holding for me was also Linux stuff: GNUPro Dev Kit and CodeFusion IDE for Linux.
Well, I admit that sometimes I'm a bit superstitious. If I was looking for a sign regarding setting up a network, you couldn't ask for a clearer one that that.
I don't believe I'm under any obligation to post in a manner you personally consider constructive.
Canvid,
This thread began as a topic about problems with some sort of presentation about a co-op. I don't see that you have the right to decide that the thread is about everyone getting together and finding some common ground to proceed to make a co-op happen.
I also want to tell you that I am not a buyer only. I never stated that and there have been times when I have made known here on AW the fact that I am a seller as well as a buyer.
No one here owes you or any other co-op organizer anything. ANYTHING. Try to remember that and not nurture the ill feelings you seem to have for anyone who doesn't agree with you about how a co-op might or should be done.

codasaurus..
Just a reminder to address the topic and not individual posters. Please take advantage of your "ignore" button if you need to. Thank for your co-operation.
The same thing goes for you. Please do not address individual posters. Address the topic only. You can also make use of your ignore button if necessary. Thank you for your co-operation.

Code, I'm sorry I jumped on your case. You have made some good suggestions, like
I would think that a functioning site would go a long way towards showing the potential membership what they can expect for their money.
But your posts are more about why a co-op can't succeed. You have worked on this idea in the past and offered a lot of good input. I don't understand why you now seem dead set against the idea.
... dimwits who have nothing better to do than post juvenile attacks.
When I brought up the issue of trolling, AP denied it. But the fact is, the same poster who has done "more constructive work than most people" is posting in this thread under more than one bogus ID. Everybody knows it, including the moderators. If this were any other topic, the entire discussion would have been banned already.
AP publicly accused AW of "McCarthyism" and "manipulating the message boards." But in fact AW is bending over backwards to allow a co-op discussion. Can AuctionPie understand that there are other groups, other opinions and other plans as well? Let's stop these childish games and focus on the real goal.
I have given a lot of thought to recent events in this thread last night and have made a policy decision.
First, I'd like to offer my sincere apologies to all concerned. Including Twinsoft.
I have decided that any further posts from myself here on Auctionwatch related to Auctionpie will only be in response to any questions or to clarify any events within our group.
Unfortunately there are elements here that on occasion bring out the worst in all of us. I'm not sure if it's the annonymity of Messageboards or what the reason is but I don't like it anymore than some others.
If there is a element of folks here who have nothing better to do than bash things so be it. I will not be responding to any of these types of posts in the future. If Auctionwatch wishes to allow these types of people on their boards that's their perogotive.
Building AP and helping grow the seller supported movement has not been easy and there's still a long road ahead.
I'd like to help build it with anyone who wishes to go forward but we can't please everyone and we won't always all agree. But as long as people stay civil and respectful I think we can all achieve our goals!
Thanks,
Jamie

Jamie, I am not trying to draw you out. I only wanted to know if AuctionPie was still alive, because I saw zero activity on your boards. Nobody is trying to tear down AuctionPie. There is a lot of support at AuctionWatch for the co-op movement (which seems to be going in all directions.)
As for the email I received yesterday ... do you kiss your mother with that mouth?
Let me repeat my point. Nobody is trying to tear down AuctionPie. However, if you (as in, AuctionPie) are going to post in these forums, you should expect the same scrutiny that any other business receives. Some unfortunate remarks were made in this thread and it's got more green moderator stamps than any thread I can recall, so let's just let it go for now.
Some good ideas were presented here. I like Dman's idea of a home-based network. It can be assembled quickly and cheaply, and as Codasaurus said, a working model will go a long way towards demonstrating the co-op to new members. AuctionPie may take a year or more to materialize. This is not about loyalty vs. betrayal. It's about everyone doing their best to achieve a cooperative trading site.
If AuctionPie succeeds, I will be the first to shake your hand. But in the meantime there are other avenues which can be explored.
I am not against a co-op. I just happen to have my own opinions about how any online auction site can be established and successful in light of the virtual monopoly that eBay now holds.
If I didn't care to see a new online auction site effort succeed I certainly wouldn't be posting here on AW about what I think are mistakes in the making.

Okay, Codey (can I call you Codey? ). Good point. So, what do you think of Dman's network idea? I mean, strictly from a mechanics viewpoint.
You can call me anything you like. Whether I will recognize your post as addressed to me is another thing, altogether.
I haven't given much thought to the network idea. First, my computer expertise is in mainframe systems which are typically standalone systems. Second, I don't know that the co-ordination issues in a networked system are not merely jumping from the frying pan into the fire. For those reasons I've refrained from entering the discussion.
