If you are planning to buy from thaigem.com on ebay. Save your money. There are far better sellers. Thaigem use a lot of stock photos that look nothing like the gem you will receive. How do I know? I know because they have done it to me twice. (Yes I know, silly me! But hey I try to give people a chance.) Their response? "The way we take our pictures is in light boxes. These boxes provide optimal viewing condition, specially for color change gems." Apparently their customers are morons who do not know that colour change gems need to be viewed under 2 different light sources. Or do they mean that the gems only change colour in their "Magic Light Box"? Look at their auctions or their website and you will find many items represented by the one photo. They are tricky though, sometimes they flip the pictures horizontally or vertically so that us poor uneducated folk won't notice. Even though the gem received is nothing like the pic they insist that you send it back for a full refund, minus their outrageous shipping and insurance charges which are often far greater than the value of the gem in question.

Adrian

I remember thaigem ,they used to have over 5 thousand items listed in 30 days, but i dont recall them getting much complaint??
i also recall they sell low priced gems ,so it would not make sense to take pics of every gem.
i hope you did not lose much.

Hi Stopwhining,
Imagine you see an auction for a,
"Fantastic mint tiffany lamp" and the picture shows exactly that. Yet when the item arrives is a tiffany alright but it has been broken into a thousand pieces and glued back together, not very well either I might add. Wouldn't you be annoyed? I think you would. Then when you wish to return it they tell you that the shipping and insurance, which made up 40% of total price, will not be refunded even though the item was definitely not the one advertised and they are 100% to blame. I can't say how thaigem treats it's other customers apart from the public figures,(97% from 290000+ FB)But that is what they have done to me twice. Only with gems of course. By the way 3% of 290000 odd is a lot of unhappy transactions. That doesn't include the hundreds of negative comments beside a positive sign either. Like I said I have learned my lesson. I was just hoping to help others be a little more informed.
Regards,
Adrian

P.S. Sorry I missed one of your points, it would indeed be a large task to photograph each item. So they should clearly state that the photo has nothing to do with the item for sale instead of using deceiving photos of completely differnet gems than the item for sale.

why would anyone want to buy a tiffany style lamp from Thailand??
there are plenty here!
as for gems, you do get what you pay for.
Thailand is a good market for gem dealers, dealers from all over the world come to look for good gem.
If there is any good one, they will sell it somewhere else for a good buck.
I think many ebay bidders buy from him just so they can say they own a real emerald, ruby etc, irregardless of quality.

Once again you miss the point entirely stopwhining. The point was the deliberately misleading description and photo. Not the location. You are correct on a few points though.
Thailand is a good market for gems.
Thaigem.com are thieves.
Most people by from thaigem hoping to own a "real" emerald, ruby, sapphire, etc. Most thaigem.com customers wouldn't know if they are being ripped off or not.
