Hi Pat and welcome to AW!

I have a question about my AW photos:
I have webtv just for your information. I would like to delete pics I know longer need or have to sell, if I do that I am afraid I will delete some of my auction pics that are being auctioned now since they are on different pages.
I ask this because when I had a Photo on one page and a Photo on another I could never list them together. So before I delete anything please help!
Also, How many photos can I hold in my file? Thank You and Happy New Year!

Howdy Fortigger:

Humm? If you are defining images by their unique URL instead of pages, by their unique URL, you should have no problem deleting individual images for old or past auctions.

It sounds to me like what you do is put your images on a page and use one of the "auto-publishers" to publish that page on some website.

It also sounds, from your description, that you might not have access to a "FTP" program either. This is a specialized type program that lets you go to your web site or web space and "upload" individual picture files or even delete them.

Finally -- I have to admit I've not used much WebTV -- I am a bit unsure of the tools you can even have for that platform.

But if it is as I "imagine", if you publish pages to get images up, then you can continue to do it just that way and just "replace" the image to be deleted with a new one. Just name it the same thing as the old image and it won't really "delete it" ... but it will replace it.

Since the substitution is made on the page you "published" images that are left "intact" or "Unchanged" will remain as well.

I hope this makes sense If not, let me know.

Pat

PS: I count myself an old-timer here on auctionwatch. My signup date was Aug 31, 1998 ... and these days they don't even claim that AW was founded until January 1999

Hi Pat,

Thanks for your response. I will try to clarify.

I use auction watch for my picture host for my auctions.

When I have a Photo on one page and a photo on another page I can never get them on the same auction I am working on.

Soooo, I have been careful to place all matching photos that would go on my auction on the same page sometimes I use three photos in an auction BUT if I start deleting I am afraid it will move the photos from page to page possibly moving them out of my auction all together. I realize the photos will stay on auction watch but it is my auction sites I am worried about.

Now, I hope that helped a bit. I look forward to hearing from you! I really must delete some of my photos.

Also, How many photos can you host here?

Thank You!

Fortigger:

Oh! I think I understand a bit more now.

My understanding is that AW provides you with 10 mb of space for your images.

If you were posting the images in an auctions.com -- ever tried us? www.auctions.com -- you would have to select "other auction" and include the resulting code in your auction description on auctions.com.

the code looks something like this:
{p}{center}{img src="http://imagehost.auctionwatch.com/bin/imageserver.x/00042479/neomax/aucostco.gif"}{/center}{br}
{BR}{CENTER}
{A HREF="http://imagehost.auctionwatch.com/bin/index1.html?adid=253280245"}
{IMG SRC="http://imagehost.auctionwatch.com/bin/ad.x?adid=253280245" WIDTH="233" HEIGHT="60" BORDER="0"}{/A}
{BR}{BR}{A HREF="http://www.auctionwatch.com/"}{IMG SRC="http://counters.auctionwatch.com/bin/count.x/neomax/0002752f" BORDER="0"}{/A}{/CENTER}{BR}

I replaced the "" characters with { and }

As you can see, the above is html which I believe will show here.

In the case of auctions.com (or any other auction) you can select images and see the actual code by selecting "other auctions."

What most folks don't realize is that when you select one of aw's "set up" auctions, they provide this same code "way down" in the description area when they present you with the listing page. (Next time you list something using their -- aw's -- send to program, scroll way down in the description and you'll see it. This is not "magic."

And Fortigger, I think you are probably right that images must be on the same page if you plan to include them in a single auction. It certainly seems like it would be easy to work it that way.

Finally, you are (or at least should be) able to delete individual images (after their use) from the AW image hosting site without impacting the status of other images.

Bottom line here is that each image is "discrete" ... what you are seeing is really a "directory" listing of the available images. You can delete any one of them and the only real change will be that all remaining images will move up one "slot" higher on the directory listing.

Hope this helps.

Pat

PS: Auctions.com and auctionwatch are two separate companies. While auctions.com (formerly auctionuniverse) was an early advertiser on aw, we are a competitor in the auction space.

If you'd like to know more about us, post another message or thread and I'll give you an earful

I have an answer to one part of your problem. I struggled for ages to try and get 2 images on the same auction when they were on different pages, then I was told that what you do is click on preferences, and change the number of images you want on each page, that way you can get all your images on one page if you want. I have 90 for example. I sell a lot of craft books, and often have 6 pictures for one auction, and now, I have no trouble gettting them all on the same auction. Hope this helps.
