Can anyone give me advice on accepting Cheques from the USA and Canada i.e. opening an US bank account from the United Kingdom or a bank account in the UK that do not charge more than the Cheques is worth and 8 week to clear it. Hope some one can help Thanks
As far as opening a US account from your UK address, I'd just check some of the USA banks or some of the multinational banks -- i.e. those with branches in both the US and UK.
Another alternative that might work would be the choice to accept "travelers checques."
I suggest that with a little trepidation ... but I once thought, in the late '70's about cashing in my savings and getting travelers cheques denominated in Swiss Francs as that currency was (and still is) backed by gold (with the then favorable exchange rates.) I didn't though.

I live in Canada, and most of my buys and sells are from the U.S, and I opened a U.S. account, and had no problem sending cheques to U.S. sellers until last week, when the buyer in a rural area told me his bank had charged him $5 because of the exchange rate. I told him that with a U.S. check there WAS no exchange rate. So a U.S. account in not infallible. I have sold to customers in U.K., Australia, Singapore, New Zealand and Japan, and people usually send me U.S. cash and register it. I wish there was a simple solution.
