The Major Announcement that Auctions.com forgot to tell you was they are also going to be charging FEES!!!! Remember long time ago, AuctionUniverse (AKA Auctions.Com) blasted us with Banner Advertisments and notices on their site stating "we not charging fees, not now, not ever" and going on to say "We only make money when You make money"

Well, Auction.Com, I guess you weren't making money because the customers weren't able to sell their items.

I've been listing on various auction sites for almost 2 years, and Auctions.Com has been my slowest in regards to sales.
I can run the same ad on Yahoo (a truly free site) and sell 20 of my items each and every time. On Auction.com, I've now run the same ad, both times featured, and didn't sell a single item... On Amazon.com, the very same ad pulls me over 100 sales per 10 day auction.

Anyway, I back to the subject in hand. Why first promise you will only make money when we (the sellers) do and now put fees on all listings.......

Valleyone:

My intention in not mentioning the fee increase was that I haven't seen the official announcement yet. Frankly, I've been waiting for my auctions.com email newsletter for that info.

While I was pretty sure we were going to a dime (instead of a scaled system that goes up to a dollar like the others) I like to have all the information at hand before I discuss things. You can understand that, surely.

As far as you question, why promise to make money only when sellers do and then turn around and put in fees.

The only way I can explain that is to draw an anology to a real-life experience ... no delimmah ... with which most of us have had to grapple.

The situation is when your favorite dog turned up with a dozen puppies. The question is do you charge $5 or $10 for the animal or do you give it away?

The reasoning is that you charge the person $5 or $10 ... not because of value of the dog or because you're trying to make money ... but because you don't want someone to take the puppy or kitten for free and then just abandon it. You want the new "owner" to be "invested" in that dog because if they put up $5 or $10 for it; they're serious about keeping the animal.

Frankly, with free listings, the sellers had little "investment" in their effort on auctions.com. That "take it or leave it" attitude meant they had little interest in promoting its sale, despite it being a good deal for them.

That is about the best answer I can give you.

Pat

Yes, it answers it very well. It simply reminds me of some great quotes made by past or present Presedents:

1) NO NEW TAXES! <- only to increase taxes to a record high.

2) (while pointing his finger at the American Public on National TV) I DID NOT HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH MONICA! <- only to later ask for the difination of what Sex is. Then to have to gull to ask "What is the diffination of the word IS".

Yep, your answer pretty much puts me in a good mind set.

Susan.
