I started to register with AU, but was surprised to learn that I could not select my own user ID and password. As a seller on several auction sites, I don't want to remember many different usernames and passwords. This would greatly complicate the many emails that must be sent to notify winners of bids, etc. I prefer to use a form letter approach with a signiture file, and simply change as little information as possible.
I also don't understand why AU would charge $100 for a featured auction when they are going up against a giant like ebay. Ebay charges $50.
I didn't register with AU. I did register with Yahoo Auctions though...with the same ID I use on ebay.

Hi Tatertot:

Some good questions.

First, you do select your user id on AU. It is your email address. At least I assume you selected your email handle.

Second, whoever told you, you couldn't select your own password is lying to you. The password system is the same as eBay.

You register, we give you a password, you comeback, that obtuse password copied to your clipboard, go to the appropriate page and change your password to any one you choose.

Finally, you ask why do we charge $100 for our showcase auctions while eBay charges $50.

That's real simple. Those folks who sell xeroxed pamphlets on how to get rich on eBay don't show up on our showcase auction list. Neither do the people seeking to scam ebay feedback, sell bogus this and counterfiet that. They don't think twice because they know the front page featured auctions are a necessity for their particular types of scams.

The borderline scammers will occassionally try to do one in our category showcases but without the full site exposure on the front page -- essential when you're doing the same scam for the tenth time (you need new blood to suck) -- they figure it is too expensive.

Why, is it considered too expensive... because it is so much cheaper to cheat the folks on eBay.

However, if you are selling legitimate goods, you'll find our commission and listing fee structures result in a significant savings over regular listings at eBay.

I hope this answers your questions satisfactorily. And good luck with your auctions where ever you place them:-)
