Can anyone tell me if AU is going to be part of the new "Fair Market" auction consortium which opens Monday? I can only find a listing of 6 or 8 auctions, but understand there will be almost a 100 affiliates and I was wondering if AU was going to be part of that?

No. We've got our own network. If you've read here about our presence on USAToday's web site, then you know we've got some stroke with newspapers. (We're owned by them.)

Fact is, before fall ends, I'll wager you'll see us on sites such as the NYTimes, Washington Post, LA Times, Detroit News, Chicago Tribune, and their associated net ventures.

But us and MS? I don't think so.

Well Pat I could hope couldn't I....I was hoping you would be...thinking it might finally bring in some bidders...I am very aware of the News Paper connections, but the promo by USA Today, doesn't seem to have done any good.....I don't see bidding picking up at all....I know you have an active jewelry section, but lets face it, there are more categories than jewelry....

Thanks for the response -

USAToday has brought quite a few folks around. I'm not at all disappointed with the number of new bidders we're getting from there and I expect that the other media properties, including Knight-Ridder's Real Cities effort will play nicely into our growth.

You know enough about this Internet "frontier" game to know that it is a "range war" and everyone is fighting for turf.

Traditional media -- and we're owned by many of them -- are just now understanding this "range war" aspect.

Look at last weeks Newsweek, for goodness sakes. Meg in full force.

They own us but didn't mention us the first time. That is part of our challenge. It will be much easier when we appear on the Washington Post site and the NYTimes site. Those one-sided stories will instantly become more even-handed.
