So far, every closed auction that has involved AW figuring the tax that I need to collect for sales in my state, has not worked. Either I do not have it set up correclty, or it is simply not working. Can this be looked into?
Thanks,
Bruce

Hi Digitalbruce,

AW doesn't figure the tax for the buyer as we don't know what State the buyer lives in. We only provide the tax calculator for the buyer to use to figure tax amount.

Hello Brian,
Thanks for that information.
OK, I suppose then that what my customers are saying is that the tax calculator is not working correctly.
Any insight into that?

What you need to do is go to your settings and make a more detailed description of what they need to do to set up the tax. What is happening is that they are just not filling in the information. They have to manually put in a percentage that they are going to pay. Go to an auction in post sale where somebody paid but did not fill in the wbn and fill in the information for them. You will see what they have to do. It truly is just a calculator. There is nothing automatic about it.

I have had problems with the exact same issue. Buyers simply did not input the tax for whatever reason. Until AW updates this form where it automatically triggers the correct sales tax you might want to add a brief message to your Sales Tax Information column under Post Sale Management.
Include something like "California buyers: Please enter "7.50" in the tax column below. Your tax will then be automatically calculated for you." This information will then appear directly above the sales tax column and should prompt most buyers to complete it.

Hope this helps.

Here is what I have in my tax message:
"8.25% in the State of Texas Please do not use if you do not live in Texas If you do live in Texas Leave the first pull down menu blank and put 8 in the next one 2 in the next one and 5 in the next one."

Perfect!
Thanks for the help everyone. I have changed my message like user ecomputeremporium suggested, and now it should not be a problem any longer.

AW should have an automatic tax calulator which corresponds to the state eneterd in the collection form , I would request this be forwarded to the developers. Other auction services have this automatic feature built in , it has been a problem since not all people know how to set the calculator ,

AT THE VERY LEAST IT SHOULD HAVE A PREDEDINED SETTING LIKE HERE IN FLORIDA ALL TAXABLE SALES ARE AT 6.5% , MOST STATES HAVE ONLY ONE PERCENTAGE SO WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE THE TAX DEFAULT TO THE RATE WE CHOOSE.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the feedback. I will definitely pass this suggestion along to product development. For now the easiest thing to do is what has been suggested in this thread, which is to provide directions in your WBN regarding setting tax based on where the winner is living.
