This is my first attempt to use AW. We have WEBTV and I have used the image hosting and I have created a new listing EXCEPT when I get to the Categories (I chose Dolls & Bears) and I followed another message that gave the information on how to find the categorie numbers and I chose #386 for Bears but I cannot put those numbers in the space right across from the Category "Dolls and Bears". I cannot put anything in that space. I left it blank and tried to launch the auction and received the message "Invalid Site Specifics Data". What am I doing wrong?

Also are the Category numbers listed specifically for Auction for America or are these the current Category numbers and then you CHOOSE if you want the item to be sold under Auction for America?

Such as #13777 for Decorative and Holiday under Collectibles (#1)?

Thank you for any and all suggestions and help!

Hi Bamber35,

The pages on eBay that list the complete set of category numbers are currently down. The only page we have is this one:

http://listings.ebay.com/aw/plistings/list/categories.html

The Auction for America is a whole seperate category -- what appears underneath that, is not part of those listings, those are the regular ones. Unfortunately if you are trying to list to Auction for America, we do not support listings to there as a different listing process is used. Regarding the above URL, since it does not break into sub categories, you could try listing your items into a general category and then going to the change category page, located at the following URL:

http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ChangeCategoryShow

You have to use your hand held remote control, that came with your Webtv, to type the catagory numbers in the in the box, a keyboard will not work. Hope this helps! If you need more information, write back.

Sonya and Chatsworth34,

Thanks for the help. Did NOT have a clue about using the remote. That was the key to getting the number in.

What is meant by a "leaf" category?

Thank you again!

Best wishes,
Sylvia

Hi Sylvia,

Leaf category means you are entering in a category that is either incomplete or invalid. What are you trying to list under? Maybe I can find it for you through the Create Listing page on my computer, since with WebTV you cannot use the drop downs in Create Listing.

Sonya,

I was trying to list the item under Bears #386 (a sub-category of Dolls & Bears #237). That did not work so I listed it under Collectibles, sub-category Decorative & Holiday #13777. After it was launched I used the Change Category in eBay and changed it to Bearsther. So, it worked out.

Thank you for all the help in getting us started.

Sylvia
