Hi,
I just tried to launch an auction through your site and when I get to the Category/Top Category..I just get blank choices and am not able to pick a category like I have in the past. Also there are only 9 choices of blank pages and I believe there are more choices than that?? <p>Please advise me on what I should do so that I can list my auctions?? Thanks for the help!
Frank
You should be able to choose a category from the drop down menus. When you click on them what do you see? Do you see categories, or just a list of lines?

Hi Vetrand,
Are you using WebTV? If so, then you will have to enter your category by number in the fields provided using your on-screen webtv keyboard. The following URL will explain how to obtain the category numbers:

Sonya,
Hi again! I can manually put in the category numbers that is not my problem. My problem is that I cannot list in the main Category/Top Category. Examples: ANITQUES & ART,BOOKS,COINS,DOLLS & BEARS,MOVIES,MUSIC,COLLECTIBLES,TOYS & HOBBIES,Etc.......
I can't see which Category to put my items in the main category.. Like when I list Boyds Bears.. I need to first enter DOLLS & BEARS and then #3905... I cannot get to the DOLLS and BEARS part first.... My choices are blank. Also there are only about 9 blank choices and I can remember there being way more than that?? Any suggestions?

Hi vetrand , We use a webtv plus unit and can't get top catagories. We shut down in frustration last night and let our cookies clear. The same problem is still there today. Sonya did not answer our issue. We can put in a number but can't get a top catagory in the drop down menu, just broken lines. We also sent a message to AW. No response. What gives AW !!!

Hi Veterand and Cornishfalconer,
If you just type in the category number and hit enter, it should show up -- unfortunately since we do not have a WebTV box here I cannot test this for you, but I did try it on my browser without selecting a top category and it worked.

WE have already tried typing in the number without the top category and it still does not bring up top category to select. With WebTv we have always justed clicked on the top Category but not it appears blank only broken lines thats our problem. Without the top category we get an invalid fields error message

Hi,
I see that I am not the only one with this problem? Obviouslly this is a technical problem. Will this be fixed any time soon? I a losing time and money not being able to launch my auctions. I just tried again, and without a MAIN category, the item can show up in the wrong place on Ebay and not get any hits or bids!!
Please let me know ASAP. Thanks!
Unfortunately because we do not provide WebTV support and have no WebTV box to test this on, there isn't a way for me to replicate this problem on my end. When I try on my end, I just type in the category number, and the rest of it shows up. You could try to power down for a couple minutes or so and then restart your WebTV, hopefully that will help.

I have Webtv, and to get the category number in the top box, you have to use the hand held remote control, that came with your Webtv, to type in the numbers. You hit the center blue button, and your on screen keyboard shows up, when that happens just type the numbers in the box, and then hit your black enter button on the bottom, and go back to your regular keyboard. My category boxes are always empty, and it does not matter, as long as you type in the numbers. I have been doing it for months, and it works, at least as of last night.

We keep getting a response to how to put in the category numbers, that is not the problem, we can cut and paste the category numbers just fine it works. THE PROBLEM IS: We can not get the TOP Category Selection The Drop Dowm Bar HAS BROKEN LINES NO TOP CATEGORIES to select!!! Please Can You help to resolve this. And yes we have shut down our system several times and left it down overnight and for a few hours today before trying again.

With no disrespect intended for the AW CSR's, it's a rather lame excuse that AW can't answer WebTV issues simply because the equipment is not available.
If AW had genuine concern for users that have WebTV and are attempting to exhibit some loyalty to AW by trying to stick it out, then AW should reciprocate with the minimal expense (about $200 for the Plus setup and an additional $15 per month) or at least have the courtesy to talk to the WebTV people and solicit a donation.
Not only would such a positive action by AW be a bit of a PR coup, but heck, it just might be that the word gets around that AW cares....and if AW exhibits care, you just might increase your user base from WebTV users that otherwise stay away from AW service.

Oh my God...I totally agree that AW has a lack of knowledge about WebTv. I mean I have only been with AW since the beginning and they cannot afford a $200 Webtv Plus machine?? Damn you can even get them for $100 on Ebay!!
Also how many times do I have to say..the problem is with the CATEGORY/TOP CATEGORY listings!! Not the ITEM NUMBERS!!!! Others have said the same as myself...AW staff..please read these posts better!
My problem was still there tonight and I just went and picked a blank Category and then put in the item number...Luckily it worked for the same items I listed...Hopefully when I list alot of other different items it works too!!
This is not a Webtv problem..it has to do with AW. I am still having to manually list my item #'s with a remote control instead of my keyboard!! And this problem has been persistant for at least 6 months!!! C'mon AW people this worked in the past..go back to your old format and correst this. I mean you have no problem taking my listing fees and commissions..you do that right every month! If you are going to make errors then only charge me $1.00 per month..Maybe it is time to look into other hosting images sites????

ANOTHER WEBTV USER HERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE REST OF YOU!!!! We are SO frustrated with this problem and like the rest of you, we have auctions waiting to be listed. We are using AW for Image Hosting and listing the auctions through ebay. Thank you, other WEBTV users, for explaining so thoroughly the problem with the TOP Category broken lines. I don't understand why AW can't help us.
Sorry for the delay in response to this issue, without supporting the WebTv format some of these issues can get confusing.
The problem at hand is not your ability to launch by manually entering in the category number, correct? The problem is for the users that can select a category using the tree usually, you no longer are able to do so, seeing only the little lines?
Previously, some users could use this and some could not, even though all WebTv units were supposedly able to support JavaScript. The users that could not use it, would see nothing but those lines you mention seeing now. Apparently, if we are understanding you correctly, now no WebTv users are able to use the form, correct?
Sorry for all of the questions, we need to continue investigating this issue and made sure the problem is correctly understood.

Hi Christopher,
Thanks for responding last night. This morning I have tried, unsuccessfully, for an hour to launch one auction. I have tried everything I can think of, but can't. Yes, it is the blank, broken lines that seems to be the problem. Under CATEGORY/TOP CATEGORY there are only the lines. No matter what category number is put in to the right of that column (manually with the remote control) no categories are listed. Please try to do something.
