This has been happening a lot lately. Bidders are registered at ebay with an email address they are no longer using and so the end of auction email from ebay and the WBN is worthless because the bidder is using a new email address. If someone changes emails they really need to change it on the ebay site. I wonder if this guy is gonna turn out to be yet another deadbeat. Only about 20% of my auctions get a bid and a lot of the high bidders are deadbeats. Darn!

This happened to me just a few weeks ago - but not 20% - that's just crazy!

After a win, mail was undeliverable, and eventually filed NPB (what a pain). eBay responded by saying "hey, we could send you this guy's phone number, maybe you could still work something out." I didn't - simply figuring I'd never get paid anyway.

So, I've got some new rules in place. Any eBay ID that has very low or no feedback is getting an e-mail after they post their bid. Something like "Thanks for bidding; hope you win!"

If it comes back as "mailbox unknown" then I am going to cancel that bid, give the reason as "invalid e-mail ID" and then block that ID. No ifs, no buts.

If the person really wants the item and contacts me directly, I'll explain how to update their e-mail ID. After a valid e-mail test, I'll lift the block.

It's a lot easier to explain that, then to wait for NPB processing on eBay and AW.

I figure a little more work up front is better than a pain after a "non-sale".

Hope that helps.

This person did a Buy It Now. The ebay end of auction email says the auction was ended at Nov-11-01 00:08:33 PST which is 11:33pm here on the east coast. I'm not psychic so I could not have known. I did not find out about this auction ending until 8am this morning (EST) because I turned off my computer at 9pm so I could relax before going to bed. I went to bed at 10:20 or so. That means the auction was ended a little over an hour AFTER going to bed. Of course AW doesn't detect a BIN so I had to log into AW and repeatedly hit the refresh on that auction to get it to send out a WBN. One time I had to repeatedly hit refresh for 30 minutes to get it to send out the "automated" WBN and finally it got sent. In this case after I got it moved into the ended section I counted 14 refreshes to get the AW system to send the WBN.

Actually now that I'm looking at it it looks like it ended this morning at 8:33am which would have been 11:33am here but it is currently 9:25am here which means it hasn't ended yet even though it has! There must be a mess up in the email concerning the end of auction date/time. There is 3 hours difference between east coast and west coast and we are ahead. So it is almost 9:30am here so west coast is almost 6:30am. I don't get it.

Ive had it happen to me twice this month - On one I reported it to ebay customer service that the email addy did not work and they NARU'ed it the next day - The other user emailed me with a crazy story about a family fight and that she lost her email account and had to use a diff email and she would send payment for sure - that was 30 days ago - Im going to report the dead email addy this week. If it seems Fishy it usually is.
Good Luck

I figured out the time. The 08 is the minutes and the 33 is the seconds so the time was 12:08 and 33 seconds AM on the west coast so the auction ended at 3:08am my time.

I went to ebay to check this bidders feedback and it says:

Overall profile makeup 5 positives. 5 are from unique users and count toward the final rating.

0 neutrals.

2 negatives . 2 are from unique users and count toward the final rating.

This person registered on ebay (at least for this ID, they may have a hundred bidder ID's on the site, who knows) Sunday, Feb 28, 1999.

The majority of my bidders have feedback ratings of under 100 and so if I didn't do business with them, I'd have no customers. My feedback says: 674 positives. 500 are from unique users and count toward the final rating. I've left over 825 feedbacks for others so I know that not everyone participates in the feedback system for what ever reason. Some people are afraid to neg someone. I'm not afraid of people so I neg when I need to but so far I've only done so with deadbeats. And then I don't neg in retaliation, only to warn other ebayers so they will be forewarned.

This person with a bounced email address for MSN.com that also appears to have a yahoo.com address, since his feedback is not good, I've blocked him from future bidding. I know we are limited to something like 1000 ID's in the blocked list but my list is growing fast. I've always had a high % of deadbeats. I guess I'm just an unlucky person or something. Oh, well. I just have to accept my lot in life, I guess. Things could definitely be worse, so I don't really have anything to complain about. I've been doing ebay since 1998, and the frustration is finally getting to me.

Finally, three days later my bidder verified that the yahoo address is the correct email not the msn. He is still registered on ebay with the msn which is what the AW WBN ended up with so this bidder never got his WBN.

HOW do I change the high bidder email address in the WBN so that I can resend it? I see where I can edit mine but I see no place to edit the high bidder email address. HELP! I've never had to do this before.

Hi Antelope67,

To change the winning bidder email address, you can use the Non Paying Bidder link. From the Fulfillment Checklist, click on the blue Non Paying Bidder link and enter in the correct email address, name and closing price of the auction. I hope this helps!

Whenever I've clicked non paying bidder in the past it would just take me to a screen asking me if I want to relist or something. I never could figure out anything else from that. What I ended up doing was just going to the WBN preview and clip/paste into an email message and put the correct email address into the TO part and emailed it directly from my own email system. It was easier than trying to figure out all that other "stuff"

Hi Antelope67,

If you select the "enter an alternate bidder" selection you should be able to send it without being prompted to relist. You are only prompted to relist if you select the other option, which is Relaunch Item.

Now I cannot leave feedback for this bidder through AW, I'll have to do it at ebay. The bidder did not change, I only changed his email because it had changed but he had not updated it with ebay yet but now he has and at that time I had to change it through the non-paying bidder because the change email feature was not available yet. Now your system thinks I had a non-paying bidder and sold the item to a different person when I didn't and when I tried to do feedback it keeps saying:

Cannot submit feedback once the winning bidder has changed.

You can submit feedback manually by going directly to the auction site.

This really sucks. Computers can be so dense sometimes. They have no common sense whatsoever! But then they only do what they were programmed to do. Please fix this. I'll do the feedback from ebay this time but this glitch better be fixed for future email changes so as not to disable the feedback for the auction. An email change doesn't mean a bidder change!

I asked about having someone look into this over 8 hours ago. I guess it isn't important.

Hi Antelope67,

I apologize for the delay in answering your post. We have logged this as an issue to be resolved -- at this time the only workaround is to leave feedback directly at eBay. This problem will not affect all of your active auctions.
