Your mailstep.com relay is causing confusion for PayPal payments! Even though I state in my WBN which email address to send payment to, I just received a PayPal "payment" through the mailstep address which got passed along to my real email address but obviously was not a REAL payment because the mailstep address is not a REAL email and I am not signed up for PayPal with it. I had to email them back to tell them what happened. You have to understand that bidders do not have "time to read ANYTHING" or are too lazy to. Now my payments for my auctions (what few auctions actually end up with a bid these days) are getting mixed up. I'm sure none of my bidders understand what an email relay is or even care. Why does everything have to get so complicated all the time?

Hi,
I have not sign up for the Mailstep.com feature yet, as I also belive that this is going to create problems for those customers that use Paypal immediately after the auction ends. Although I would love to use this as I frequently use the Buy It Now option, I have to many customers that will pay through Paypal before the WBN reaches them to let them know that mailsep.com is not my Paypal account address. Sure I could tell them to wait for the WBN in the auction description, but I know there will be a handful that won't or will not have read this. Any ideas on how to handle this situation?

Hi Everyone,
<br />
<br />
The change is working well for me. I took the partial solution offered by AW and added a bit of EMAIL magic to make a better offering. This may not work for everyone, but I will describe my setup for your consideration.
<br />
<br />
I have a custom email address hanging off my domain name that I use for all of my auction traffic. This address [email protected] is my eBay email as well as my PayPal and BillPoint email.
<br />
<br />
Presently the above email has a redirect to the hotmail account that I use in conjunction with Outlook Express. I use OE because it allows me to mask the hotmail address with my auction email; while providing offline viewing from home and work, including file syncronization.
<br />
<br />
To implement the AW change, I was able to leave me eBay / PayPal / Billpoint email alone. I changed the redirect address to the mailstep.com address. I changed my AW address to point to the hotmail account that I was originally redirecting to.
<br />
<br />
The end result is that my customers still have my normal email address. There will be no impact to the payment services since no one will ever see the mailstep address. For the first time since I have been with AW I may (yet to be proven) receive WBNs on time.
<br />
<br />
I realize that what I have done may be a bit cumbersome, but it is only one step more than the solution proposed. It has the added benefit on not messing up the payment services. Even if you don't have a customizable domain name, you could easily do something similar with the various email services that exist. PS: The mail forward worked very quickly in my initial testing, and there were no extra advertisements.
<br />
<br />
Good Luck and Merry Christmas
<br />
Tom.<br />

Hello,
When using PayPal as a method of payment, you do not need to change your primary email address for PayPal. PayPal allows you to add up to 7 additional email addresses on your primary account, which means buyers can send a PayPal invoice to any of those email addresses and it will go to your primary PayPal account.
To add your mailstep.com email address to your PayPal account, follow these simple directions:
1. Log into your PayPal Account
2. Click on the Profile tab
3. Click on the Email link under Account Information
4. Click the grey Add button
5. Enter in your mailstep.com email address, then click the Add button
A confirmation email will be sent to you from PayPal. Follow the instructions sent in the email to confirm your address. Now, when buyers send you a PayPal invoice to your mailstep account, you will receive the money in your primary account.
If you have a buyer that has already sent money to your mailstep account and you have not yet added it, once you follow the directions above to add your mailstep account, that money will go to your PayPal account upon confirmation.

Hi Sonya,
Thanks - I didn't think of that. I definitely want to use this new feature but was worried about Paypal. Thanks for clearing it up.

I currently have 5 email addresses. If I add them on my PayPal as a just in case measure, and someone PayPals me to one of those other emails, which email will the "You've Got Cash" email be directed to? Some of my emails I don't get a chance to check every day and others get checked several times a day.
AlphaOmega, your post is very dizzying! I'd love to experiment with some of that "email magic" for fun. One of my emails is a POP address from my ISP that is accessed by Outlook but I cringe when I turn it on for fear of viruses. But I also like having access to my ebay emails offline. Sometimes I can't get on the internet because of ISP problems and having access to emails offline is wonderful. I know that my hotmails and my iwon email has access to POP accounts but was fearful that they would be stuck online and I would not have access to them offline after that. Any suggestions?

Hello,
I'm not really thrilled about adding the @mailstep.com to my Paypal account. How safe is that?
Also I saw a feature when I changed my email address with Ebay, that allowed you to add a 2nd email address for alerts for a pager or cell phone - could that also work for this @mailstep.com, instead of changing my primary email address?

AlphaOmega,
How do you put a redirect on an email? I log on to the internet with my desktop but also have a Compaq Internet Appliance which can only seem to get email from the MSN email that I am signed up with. I have 2 hotmail accts I would love to be able to redirect to my MSN acct or redirect them to my iwon.com acct since I am also able to use that from my IA. I read almost all help files over at hotmail and cannot find a way to redirect mail to another acct. I only see stuff about checking POP accts from hotmail (our ISP frowns on that). Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi antelope67,
Every mail carrier handles redirect differently, some don't offer it at all. Redirecting needs to be configured through the email carrier. For example if you wanted email to address A redirected to address B you would need to login to your A account and configure that. Every carrier is different, so I can't give you instructions on how to do that.
cdplanet,
I'm not sure if that will work, as the system was developed for use with your primary email address. I will look into this and let you know.

Hi cdplanet,
The email that is sent to the wireless device does not contain all the information necessary to utilize this new system.
Please keep in mind that the change you make to your eBay primary email address will be seamless, meaning that you will not notice any difference in eBay's service. You will definitely notice increased performance when using our system.
