Hi dstechnologies,

You can buy these labels at your local post office. They are label "PS Form 152".

I see the labels on the USPS site ---> http://supplies.usps.gov/ShowLargePic.asp?picture=pfrm152f.jpg

Does the barcode come on it already? Will filling them out myself get me the free delivery confirmation option or will they charge me $0.40 at the USPS window

Something tells me that I have to get Plain labels if I want to use the free deliver confirmation thru USPS. I printed a test label on paper from the USPS site and it prints a barcode.

Hi dstechnologies,

I am not totally sure how they work, you may need to contact the Post Office directly and inquire about this service.

Right the PS 152 forms will cost you 40 cents each when you use them.

As far as the "free" DC form, since the folks who designed it figure everyone is using standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper for their printers, they didn't bother to figure out what kind of Avery label would make it work out.

Btw - the closest thing Avery has is:

Product # Unit Price
Laser White Address & Shipping Labels
8-1/2" x 11", White, Laser, Permanent, 1 label per sheet
05165 100 Sheets per Box $42.01

And - as you can see - you lose the "free" part of the DC...

The DC charge is $.40 when used with Priority, but $.50 when used with Parcel Post.

It doesn't matter if you use the USPS form or you print the barcode yourself, you still pay the charges.

There is software available, and accompanying label printers, to print address labels with DC, similar to the UPS system. Once again, it does not matter how you do it, the charges are still $.40 with Priority and $.50 with Parcel post, which includes Media Mail.

Ah, opus1306, apparently you do not know the USPS's latest secret web page. Heck, even the folks in my post office don't know it.

However, if you go to the URL show below, you'll see that if you fill out the form and press the Submit button, you will be able to "Print a Priority Mail Shipping Label online and have Delivery Confirmation service included at no additional charge!"

All you have to do is fill in your name and address, the recipient's name and address, click Submit, and >bam< free DC!

You WILL have to tell your post office folks about this to prevent being charged for something that is "free."

Note: Even though the form is designed for laser printers, it works >just fine< with ink-jet printers (although the rate of consumables there may prove to be cost prohibitive).

Good luck - happy shipping!

/ps/

fwiw - if you use this e-service and still charge the winning bidder $0.40 for DC, you've received payment for the eBay and AW listing fees.

All you great peoples...Some FYI...I have done some research since my first posting and combined it with the information that I got from this thread. Here is what I come up with.

USPS Delivery confirmation without a signature from recipient can be done for $0.40 or free

$0.40 - option is done at retail window at the Post office w/ them filling out the confirmation form they supplied.

FREE - option can be done at Home on your printer.
got to---> http://www.usps.com/cgi-bin/api/shipping_label.cgi and just enter shipper and recipient address in the provided fields. once you do that, you print....FREE label. it even has a practice/test option by filling in the dot to "Create an online label as a sample (not to be used for shipping)"

Tips I got from others is that you can't cover up the barcode that you generate with no tape of any kind. You can use plain labels to print on...but its hard to find them cheap enough to be cost effective like - kahm - mentioned in previous post. others tell me what they do... is that they print them up on plain white paper and use a good grade glue stick to adhere to pkg/box ( very cost effective!!!).

You can order boxes and supplies from USPS for FREE also at----> http://supplies.usps.gov/disclaimer.htm
