I fill out the Ebay listing but have to type in the catagory number. I can't select from the drop down list box. I even went into my Ebay preferences and updated them. But it still won't let me. The end result is that the auction won't even post. Please help!!!!!

It just might be that the website stopped responding. That happens to me sometimes and I just have to start all over again.

I have posted the same 5 auctions over and over again. I even did some yesterday and some today. Still nothing. How are you getting the Ebay catagories to appear in the drop down list box on the auction listing form?
If you were seeing the category options show up, and now you are not - your browser is not supporting JavaScript.
If you disabled it on your own, you will need to enable it again. If you did not disable it and it was working before, try simply restarting your browser/machine.
If it was never working correctly, you may need to reload your current browser software or upgrade to a more recent version.

Hi˙Galaxie64,
which eBay category is the one you cannot enter by it's number id? I have looked over your control pannel, and the error states that you must choose a leaf category.

What is a leaf catagory? The catagories drop down list box has never worked before. Should I check my IE5 options somewhere? I can only see the catagories listed in the Ebay preferences not on the auction listing form. I will try anything at this point. Thanks!!!!!!

Hello galaxie64,
In IE5, go to 'Tools+Internet Options' - then select the 'Security' tab. On this tab, click the 'Custom Level' button.
Check to see if the 'Java Permissions' are disabled, and if so - enable them again.
If they are already enabled, you may need to reload your copy of IE5.
ps - A leaf category means the last option you have in a head category. If you select an category, and there are sub categories, you will have to select one of the sub categories instead. When you enter the item number for a category that has sub category options, eBay will fail the auction with the error message you were running into.

Ok. I installed the latest copy of internet explorer. My java setting is set correctly. I have once again updated my Ebay preferences and it still errors out that I need a leaf catagory? WHAT IS A LEAF CATAGORY? If this does not work after one more try, I will work through a different site. This is ridiculous. Can anyone help me?

Hi˙Galaxie64,
Once javascript enabled, you may verify it by simply going to your eBay preferences. You should be able to select a category from the list. (notice the category tree changes while you select a different main category).
If test passed, go to your control panel, and click on the link Error next to the errored item, then on the next page click on Edit auction. In the edit auction page enter the desired eBay category. Save and launch.
In the edit auction page you may notice next to Top Category an entry. This is where the number of the leaf category is automatically filled. If you know the category number, just enter it here and hit Tab key. If valid, the number will remain and the category tree will be displayed starting from top category, to the leaf one (the one designated by the number)
