I tried back at New Year's to list this item on eBay, and got a similar response as I did this time. When I posted my question about it here, all I got was "we'll have to look into it in the new year". Well......it's the new year, and it's still happened. eBay's response at the time was that there was no reason for the item not to go through. I still have the original attempt (or one of them, as I tried to edit the listing a few times and re-submit) sitting in my pending auctions, as well as the one I just tried to list. It's for a Champagne and Wine Bottle Recorker. Here's the error message I received:
"The following message was returned from the scheduler while attempting to list your auction:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The venue ebay has possibly returned the following message:
Error 240: Cannot be listed for auction because the title and/or description contains improper words.
Cannot be listed for auction because the title and/or description contains improper words."
Why is this not listing, and when can I get it listed? It listed on Yahoo, but did not sell, so I want to try eBay again.
TIA,
Tracey

I think the problem may be the word champagne. Since eBay began allowing the listing of wines by registered wine dealers, items with wine names in the title have been getting kicked back. I had the same problem with a book about wine I tried to post a few months ago.
Also, if you're trying to post in the wine category, it will kick it back unless you are registered to post in that category. I also had one kicked back for that reason, and it seems to me that the reason listed was the same thing, improper words in title.

Okay, I tried listing into a different category....I WAS trying to list in the Wine category. Thanks abqsales....what you said made sense. The auction is listed and showing on "My eBay" page, as well as my Auctionwatch Control Panel.
- Only certain sellers are authorized to sell in the 'Wine' and related categories. (By prior arrangement with eBay, apparently.)
- If you try listing in the 'test' category, you MUST have the word 'test' in your title.
- eBay so far has not produced a list of "bad" words (we've asked), but alcohol/drug/etc. words (even if the item isn't actually a restricted item), can cause this error. We've asked ebay to improve the error wording to include which words EXACTLY wer the problem, hopefully they will do this.
